Dangerous Doilies

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

Several of you requested to see the finished doilies (that I injured myself making).  Of course I thought of this on my way out the door to work so you get semi-awful phone photos--sorry about that.
This is the one that did the dirty deed!  It's made with 20# hemp twine and lots and lots (and LOTS!) of double crochets...all the twisting and tugging of that heavy string is what torqued my wrist.  I am pleased with how it turned out, though, and it fits the 18" table perfectly.

The second doily is smaller and fancier.

Please ignore the cat hairs...
This one is made from hemp cord which was much more malleable, and took a lot fewer stitches.  I really liked using this cord and I'm going to buy some more to make some sturdy shopping totes and a clutch.  (It comes in colors!)

Anyway, my poor beleaguered wrist is almost back to 100%.  I went to yoga class on Friday and the only thing I had to modify was chaturanga (a sort of reverse push-up) as it was a wee tad painful.  So it's all good!  Right now I'm working with some pretty (and soft) cotton yarn, making place mats to match my Fiestaware.

Last week I baked whole wheat bagels and they disappeared just as quickly as the last batch.  I also made a blueberry-raspberry cobbler per Scott's request that was gone pretty damn quick, too.  Next week is toasted millet-seed bread and oatmeal cookies!  I may try the pretzel rolls again too--they are fairly quick for a yeast recipe.  Having three day weekends is so great...I feel like I actually have time to do projects again.

I saw my coyote pal at work again, this time in the daylight:
She's in the center of the frame.
She was moving a lot better, but still lame.  I think her day time sleeping spot is up in the bushes to the right of the photo, so she sat and watched me for a long time while I was outside doing stuff...she's very acclimated to humans.

And speaking of work, here *I* am hard at it:
This is for the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop--
Hi everybody!

And that's all for this week, folks...

Happy Sunday!

  7. Those doilies are really nice! My human used to crochet - many years ago (generations in cat years), she made some lacy doilies from some sort of string, and one of them even actually laid flat, MOL!

  15. A modified chaturanga? I don't think that's legal in most states.

  16. Absolutely love these doilies. You are super talented. You should sell these in Scott's Etsy shop. Mom says she'd buy them. That is pretty cool seeing that coyote. 19. SHEBBIE THE DOILIES ARE GORGEOUS...I CAN SURELY SEE HOW PULLING AT THAT THICKNESS GAVE YOUR A MAJOR PAIN IN THE WRIST.

MOM USED TO MAKE DOILIES,(ARE DANGEROUS TO ONE'S HEALTH) UNTIL SHE USED ONE OF THE HOOKS TO TRY TO PUT AN EXTRA HOLE IN A CHILD'S SANDAL...THE HOOK WENT INTO HER THUMB WITH THE SANDAL STILL ATTACHED. YEP TRIP TO THE ER TO GET IT OUT. DR. ASKED HER IF SHE WANTED THE HOOK BACK SHE SAID NO!!!

YOUR COMMENT ON OUR BLOG CRACKED US UP.

  20. OMG - that doily is gorgeous. I'm trying to visualize how hard it must have been on your hands to work with twine or heavy cording. Owie! You did an excellent job. Nice to see a selfie of the human too!

  21. Just looking at that top doilie, which is fabulous by the way, my wrist hurts thinking about all those double crochet stitches. I'm glad your wrist is getting better. Both doilies are beautiful!

I'll be interested in your oatmeal cookies. I love baking those.

  30. Wow, I love the doilies! They may be worth the wrist pain. Then again, maybe not. ;) Great selfie, too.

  31. Oh, those are cool! No wonder you kept going in spite of the injury!

I have a quilt that I need to finish one of these days, but I am not up to the aches and pains I get hand-quilting. That darn thing has been sitting in there for YEARS. Ugh.

  32. My grandma used to crochet doilies, with really fine thread that made them feel like silk. I love your hemp ones, and I'll bet they stand up to cats!
