Sunday with Sheebie!

Friends and Kitties!

The Sheebster here.

What a fun week!  My folks were here, and Scott and I had a great time visiting with them.  They are considering adopting an older cat, so we spent a good hour in the pet store, looking over feline stuff.  According to them things sure have changed cat-care-wise in the 25 years since they last had a kitty.  I told them all they really need to do is feed one end, scoop the other, and love the dickens out of the parts in between--that's all that matters.  Of course the Horde showed off.  Grayce and May Ling were cuddle bugs, The Baby and Salem flirted shamelessly, and the rest of the crew were their normal silly selves; even Scouty and CC put in appearances!

I cooked like a mad-woman.  I normally detest cooking but since I went mainly vegetarian I've recaptured the pleasure of creating and serving a tasty, attractive dish.  Cooking for others is such a basic, nurturing thing to do, it's like love on a plate.  I made two soups:

&

I tried two new salads:

&

I also tried a corn bread mix--Bob's Red Mill Brand, that was excellent--I used sesame oil in it and the flavor came through, as I hoped.

Scott made his famous grilled chicken, and did some eggplant too, which my parents had never tasted.

The weather cooperated for us to get outside and enjoy the yard, and we toured the Clark County Museum--a hidden gem just ten minutes from our house.  Admission was only two dollars and we spent an entire afternoon poking around. There are several restored houses all furnished in period pieces, a train depot, print shop, wedding chapel, a wild west trail, and a nice selection of museum exhibits as well.  If you're ever in Vegas check it out--and let me know, I'll come with you!

I went back to work Saturday, and I saw a female Scott's Oriole when I was out doing rounds which was great--there were several pairs at the plant last year so I need to keep my eyes open for nests and chicks.  The hummingbirds are screaming their mating songs, the bees and butterflies are out, and the lizards are slithering through the rocks--spring is certainly here, even if it's only 60F outdoors.

It's been a wonderful week off, but the Horde is clamoring to get back to blogging...they'll be back on Monday...

Happy Sunday!

  10. Vegetarian recipes?! Do your cats know you were putting those up on THEIR blog?! You are only supposed to have MEAT recipes so that the crew can beg for treats.

I wonder if they will have something to say about this once they are back to blogging.

  39. We knew you were having a great time! We make a salad you'd like: Use some field greens, spring mix or even baby spinach. Add some berries (any combo of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries or blackberries) or even mango. Top with broken pecan pieces and grated parmesan cheese (large curls). Serve with raspberry vinaigrette.
