Sunday with Sheebie AND her Dad

Friends & Kitties!

Sheebie here.

Today is Father's Day here in the US, so I thought I'd share a little something about my Dad with you.

I'm just three years old in this picture, and I'm pretty sure that's birthday cake I'm feeding to my Dad.

I love sweets.  My Dad loves sweets.  We both have tremendous sweet tooths (sweet teeth?).  My Mom, not so much, so I know I got it from him.  Dad and I could cheerfully kill for an excellent piece of dark chocolate, and then we'd have to duel each other to see who would actually get to consume it.  It would be a hell of a battle, because we're both old hands at sugary subterfuge.

All my life dessert has been a big deal.  Dinner could be "meh" (not that my Mom was a bad cook--rather the opposite) but if the dessert was tasty, well, Life was Good.  I'm not sure how it started but Dad and I would have contests on who could eat their dessert the slowest; whoever had some left won the honor of getting the last bite and lording it over the other.  I had a natural advantage of being a pokey eater but Dad was (is) a crafty opponent and he'd slip some in his napkin to reproduce after I'd had my last, gloating bite.  How my Mom put up with us with a straight face I can't imagine.

Forty-six years later we're still playing the Dessert Game.  No sense in changing a good thing, right?

Thanks Dad, for this wonderful memory, and thousands more.
I love you.

Happy Father's Day!

  5. Aw, that's so sweet!
I have a sweet tooth myself. Whenever I hear someone say "Oh that's too sweet" I can't figure out what the heck they're talking about! There's no such thing in my book!
Happy Father's day to your dad and I hope he gets a good dessert!

  10. Wonderful post, Trish. Love the photo.

Oddly, my dad and I have a sweet tooth too, my mom does not. She likes salty foods. I easily can eat cake and cookies and chocolate for breakfast, and have, on occasion, when I was younger.

I don't keep sweets in the house (not often) because I eat them all up right away, but when Dad visits, sure enough, he buys chocolate, candy, etc. LOL.

  13. Hah, I like your dad already!

So sorry I haven't been in touch lately. I always read, but thanks to work, I don't always have the time to comment. I'm planning on sending you an email with snorglable pictures of this new little cutey as soon as I can 1, get someone to take them, and 2, get her to stay still long enough to have them taken! She's a little fire cracker!

    Love to you all.

  16. Grandma was making a birthday cake for someone (we don't remember who) but she went to answer the phone and Grandpa and Mommy ate the whole entire cake. Grandma was not amused.

Especially since Grandma is overweight and Grandpa and Mommy are not.

  20. I really enjoyed this post. It's perfect for Father's Day.

I grew up where desserts were a big deal too.

My sister and I used to fight over who would get to lick the raw cake batter from the bowl or the wooden spoon. We always fought for the bowl as that seemed to have a little more batter than the spoon.

    Hugs

  22. I think you and your Dad were sweet on each other, as much as you both loved to eat them!

The game of dessert is a testament to the love between you.

My Dad loved lemon meringue pie the most of all, so I always made sure to make it for him on Father's Day. Sadly he hasn't been with us these last 25 years.
