Friends and Kitties!
Sheebie here.
I was able to help a birdy on Friday and it made me so happy I just have to tell you about it.
I was on my way back into the Control Room at work after my rounds when I saw a beautiful snow white pigeon walking in the courtyard, dragging something strange behind it. I couldn't tell if it was a broken wing or feathers at first, but I figured out that her leg was tangled up in something.
I trotted into the building to grab a pair of scissors and some bird seed.*
I came out and got a few photos while she got used to me. This was obviously not a feral bird, she was perfectly happy to come up to me and investigate the seed mix.
When she got close enough I was able to snip off the thing attached to her leg.
It was a rolled up photo with something inside, wrapped up with a strip of fabric, one end of which had been tied to her leg! I was worried the fabric on her leg would be a problem, so I lured Miss White closer and nabbed her--what a sweet bird, she didn't struggle or peck or even poop. I went across the courtyard to Security and Frank came outside to see why I was kicking the door; he got out his multi-tool and was able to get the fabric untied. It was definitely knotted, there's no way Miss White snagged her foot by accident. No doubt stupid mean kids took advantage of a good-natured bird.
It felt so good to help.
I saw her flying around on Saturday, so I think no permanent damage was done. And I put a little extra seed out for her, too.
Happy Sunday--Have a Wonderful Week!

*I feed the fat-n-sassy quail at work--please don't tell--the Biologist would scold me.
That is just awful. I'm glad you were able to help her
ReplyDeleteAw, we were hoping it was a message on the pigeon! We are glad you helped it...
ReplyDeleteWhew! I'm so glad you noticed her. Yes, there are lots of cruel people that get a kick out of bullying and tormenting birds and animals. I'll never understand them. Thankfully, there are more 'good' people like yourself that help them.
ReplyDeleteJob well done, Sheebie!
ReplyDeleteAwwww,,, so glad you were able to help get that off of the beautiful bird. Honestly, some humans make me ashamed of our species.
ReplyDeleteIf she was that tame, I wonder if she was a trained carrier? But that looks like far too big of a thing for a little bird to carry.. Hope she finds her home! Bet your cats are mad you didn't bring it home for lunch, MOL
ReplyDeleteAww, what a yumm, er, pretty bird! You didn't say what the photo was of. Do you feel as if you may have intercepted a piece of secret mail? Do tell.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that she was tme enough to let you help her/it - sort of like the mouse that helped the lion get the thorn out of its paw in a way...but, as my friend Kat would say - "Good on ya!" T.
ReplyDeleteThe Human is clucking and cooing and making little leaky-eyed yelpings of happiness that you saved the birdie.
ReplyDeleteMe, I don't get why you didn't rip its little head off and have a nice snack. Humans.
Purrs and headbutts to you for helping Miss White.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what goes on in human's head sometimes - that was a stupid and cruel thing to do. Although, to be honest, I am on the same page as Spitty.
ReplyDeleteFunny how humans find something like that so heart warming..... Äiti is very cheered by this great act of kindness!
ReplyDeleteLucky bird to find you! Wonder if it was some sort of pet, poor thing. Bet the cats would LOVE to make friends.*
ReplyDeleteI won't tell--the Biologist but could you bring a little piece of prawn when you visit me next time ?
ReplyDelete***whisper ***this deal is between you and me, o.k. .? don't tell my pawrents
xoxo
Poor Diet Boy
So happy you were ablet to help this little bird.
ReplyDeleteShe's a pretty little thing. We, too, are glad you could help her, Trish. Poor thing. A pox on the stupid human(s) who did that to her.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sheebie, good samaritan! And no doubt, the birdie was glad to have it's payload lightened! Well done!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you were able to help the little bird. She's beautiful, and we hope she got home safely!
ReplyDeleteGood job it was Sheebie and not the Horde that came across Miss White! I am not allowing Austin to see this one!
ReplyDeleteHow some so-called humans behave this way is beyond me!!
You have such a lovely heart!Lucky bird!
ReplyDeleteLéia
Some people are so nasty-I just want to cuff the person who tried to hurt this bird =(
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to help.
how wonderful that you were able to help... what a beautiful bird!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story. We are so glad that you saw her and then helped her. That is so terrific. She must be someone's pigeon to be that tame. Good work Katnip Mom.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! You really did a good deed.
ReplyDeletePoor bird! I am so glad you were able to help! We both know that some humans are just cruel!!! Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel so happy that you were able to help that nice birdie!
ReplyDeleteYou were in the right place at the right time. Sweet trusting little bird.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to help the bird. I bet your household of kitties wonder why you let their dinner go...
ReplyDelete*clapping paws* Nice work Sheebie!
ReplyDeletepee ess- good thing by brother Figaro wasn't nearby. He's known to do terrible things to sweet birdies.
That was a wonderful save and it sure made my heart smile!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad she happened upon your work courtyard so you could help her out! It's awful to think what people do sometimes but thankfully there's wonderful people like you to help undo their stupidity!
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful thing to do and lots to be happy about! Let's hope that for every creep who does something like to a bird, or anyone else, there wil be 10 people out there like you!
ReplyDeleteYAY - you deserve all the accolades given to you. What you did was maybe even save the life of that pigeon. Makes me sick when I see what S O M E humans can do to harm wild life!
ReplyDeleteBravo Sheebie!!!
ReplyDeleteI am a bird lover too and I am giving you a standing ovation.
Hugs C
Madi here Sheebie to answer your question about the shoe box...NO...
I did a few complex calculations to determine should I get in that box my pieces and parts would hang over the edges and you know who would get a picture of it to show the entire world and yes it would make my tush look gigormous!!
MOL
You are a good bird helper and we like that.
ReplyDeleteMiss White was certainly fortunate to cross paths with you that day! That thing around her leg could have eventually led to her demise.
ReplyDeleteAnd what wonderful pictures of the rescue, to boot!
You sound like me who has to feed every living thing she comes in contact with.
We're so glad you were able to help Miss White...and that she thanked you by not pooping on you. YAY!!
ReplyDeleteSo, so, sooooo happy that you were able to help that birdie!! She was lucky that YOU are a nice person and shame on whoever did that to her...poor girl!! Well, our Mom also helped a birdie today! But no pictures as we were all still in bed when we heard a 'thunk'...a bird hitting a window. Mom ran downstairs in her jammies and outside in the below freezing weather (don't worry, Mom wears long underwear to bed!) and found a blue tit (ok, I know what you are thinking so stop laughing RIGHT NOW!!) - A BIRD!! who was clinging to a wall looking rather stunned. Mom took it in her hands and talked gently to it, caressed it a bit and tried to breath some warm air onto it (I'm glad Mom's morning breath didn't make it pass out!!) and soon it started blinking and looking around. Mom perched him on a branch but birdie (who was light as a marshmallow!) just sat there blinking and looking around so Mom took him back in her hand again and carried him to the big bird feeder (we have a heavy duty feeder for all the bazillion wild birds that come to our garden) where she perched him again on the edge. He looked around, seemed to get his barings/bearings (sp?), then 'wiffff' he flew off!! Wooo hoooo! That made our day so we totally understand the 'wings' you were flying on when you saved that beautiful white dove!! Bravo!!! Sending you guys lots and lots of purrs and tailwags...us goofs here at WeezDaBadCats and DaMeenDawgs...you know, Tiny, Ellwood, Ginger, Elioth (the hot mancat) and Chouchou.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were there to save Miss White. I don't think E&F would agree though. They would have their own "rescue" plan.
ReplyDeleteOh, this just warms our hearts!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're a lifesaver, Sheebie.
And a first class sweetheart.
Mom is delighted at this rescue you did !
ReplyDeleteBeing cats, we feel differently ;)
Still, that poor birdie must have felt hindered when trying to fly.
Thanks for freeing him :)

Treasure,Tiger, JJ and Julie
Good for you! It would have been terrible if she'd got that caught up in a tree and couldn't get down.
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely beautiful and thank you for coming to her rescue! What a horrid thing to do to her!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Sheebie!!
ReplyDeleteWell done.
ReplyDeleteSo nice you could help the little fevver, Sheebie
ReplyDeleteIf that had happened around our house - Kozmo would has "rescued" the dove the same way he has rescued lots of rock doves, quail, and various other birdies....Kudos!
ReplyDeleteKisses

That is so great you can help birdie!! Very sweet of you.
ReplyDelete...but, of course, doesn't everyone feed fat-and-sassy quail at work?
ReplyDeleteGlad this lovely white pigeon was so willing to let you lighten her load.
It is sad to see things twisted on birds and other animals it makes us very sad. Thanks so much for rescuing Miss White it makes us furry happy.
ReplyDeleteThat was so nice of you to rescue that little bird.
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful! Yay for you helpin the lil pretty birdie :D
ReplyDeleteWaggin at ya,
Roo
you are wonderful! How could someone do such an awful thing to such a defenseless creature? Wait...if we had the answer to that we would have the answer to why they do it to ALL animals.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Some of the things we see at the wildlife place where I volunteer just makes me sick, as does what some idiot did to this beautiful bird. So glad you were able to help her, and hope to goodness she does not return to the sub-human that did this.
ReplyDeleteI think she may have been involved with a wedding with probably more birds. Raised to just be released, to fend for themselves with idiots notes tied to them.
Thank you for helping her, hope she will be safe, and I'll (Mom Bobbie) get off my soapbox now and return the blog to ..

Awwww... the birdie must be very thankful!
ReplyDeletePurrs
She looks like a king pigeon...they are the sweetest birds. Thank you for saving her and not ignoring her as most people would.
ReplyDeleteJane x
oh we just hate that mean people do things like that to animals...!
ReplyDeleteThat was very sweet of you to help her, and we are glad she let you help her.
ReplyDeleteThank you for saving the beautiful bird. The main reason I've never let any of my cats outside is because of cruel humans (well, also, cars and other perils).
ReplyDeleteThat beautiful bird is so blessed that help came. I'm glad you were there to help the defenseless bird. I was hoping there'd be a nice note.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you were able to help this sweet little bird. You rock, Sheebie.
