Friends and Kittehs!
Sheebie here, at last.
I took some time off blogging for my Half-Century Birthday, and a wonderful time was had by all--my parents, Scott, the cats, and most importantly, me! Because it's all about me, really. At least around my birthday.
I flew down to Tucson to visit my Mom and Dad and Shadow--who has turned out to be the most comically athletic cat--and got to be a kid again for four days. It was totally relaxing.
Mom cooked some tasty seafood meals (and a bean soup that was a bum-burner, heh heh) and there was cake and coffee every afternoon. Very civilized. Of course there were desserts, too! Dad and I did not officially compete in the Slowest Dessert Eating contest but secretly I was keeping score, and I won, every single time. I admit, I may have had an edge because I asked for humongous servings.
Scott sent me a lovely floral arrangement. I LOVE flowers! Because of our elebenty-teen cats I can't have flowers at home so they were a real treat. Shadow wasn't in the least bit interested (although the balloon intrigued her) so we didn't worry about the lilies.
Mom baked me three TWO cakes!
One of them didn't bake right...for years Mom has used the same Angel food cake mix with nary a problem, but the past couple of cakes have poufed up uncontrollably, run over the pan and charred. Ugly. So...we decided to try the high altitude adjustment of adding cornstarch--they are at 3000 feet--which was an Epic FAIL. As soon as she inverted the cake to cool it plopped out of the pan onto the counter, an unbaked mass of white goo. Mom almost cried she was so mad!
Fortunately, I had the batter bowl as consolation.
While I pigged out, Dad and Mom convoed a back up plan, which was a second cake. Yellow, with thick chocolate buttercream frosting. MMMMmmmmmmmm
My birthday was saved!
Of course, I was royally entertained as well as stuffed to the gills. Mom took me shopping and I got a couple of pairs of pants at a boutique I like, some shirts at Kohls, and I went with both the Peeps to visit some friends of ours and see their new house, (which was gorgeous) and next-door neighbor Bill came over for dessert one evening and we had a lovely long visit. We also hit a cool housewares store where Mom found a new cake pan, which led to--you guessed it--cake numero tres! There was one Angel food cake mix left in the pantry and we decided to Take our Chances with one last try...
...which was a resounding success!
You should have seen us, sitting on the floor, peering through the oven window with a cookie sheet at the ready, waiting to catch any spillage. It was hysterical.
"Is it gonna go?"
"I think it's OK"
"Uh oh...the other side looks suspicious"
"No, I think it's fine"
"Holy crap get the pan she's gonna blow!"
*scrambling*
The Inspector was, as usual, on duty.
When I got home I had a surprise waiting for me from Scott:
He had pimped my ride made my car into a Hello Kitty edition!
I love it.
Mom and Dad gave me some money for achieving my advanced age (nice!) and I bought a KitchenAid mixer, which I have already used a bazillion times.
OK, six times.
What is with my photographer? Must he take such unflattering shots? And what in the HELL was I doing?
Thank you! I love my mixer.
I also ordered some extra attachments, slicers and graters and such to support my mostly vegetarian lifestyle.
You-know-who got the box.
There's a TON of other stuff to tell y'all about related to this post, but I'll save some for next week. Plus I have cool park photos; the lights are on!
Happy Sunday and have a Great Week!
XX Sheebie XX
Well, for a Human of your advancing years, you write a pretty mean blog, and the pictures weren't bad either. Loved the Saga of the Angel Food Cake. (Someday the Human will write of the Saga of the Cream Puffs).
ReplyDeleteBut, of course, you saved the best picture for last. And The Baby has been featured on three of the past four days. Score!
It looks like a festive time was had be all.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely birthday.
What a great way to celebrate a special birthday! Wes so very happy that yous had fun and most importantly, the cake worked! Yous knows, if they is in the cupboard and on the shelf too long, those angel food cakes can fail...
ReplyDeleteKisses
Nellie and Mommy
Happy Birthday! Love those HelloKitty edition. Purrs!
ReplyDeleteMy mom says you have a lot of nerve showing those mouth-watering desserts at this time of night when all she's got is some ancient icy ice cream in the freezer!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we ALL enjoyed your birthday adventures!
What a great birthday. You will love your KitchenAid - I have two; one is 32 years old and one is 3 years old. Guess which one works better?
ReplyDeleteThe pasta roller attachment, albeit pricey is spiffy as all get out.
Happy birthday!
I have been meaning to message you for weeks, because right now I am at LAX about to get on a flight to Vegas for the week with my girlfriends. If you are not too busy this week I would love to co-orindate schedules or hear what we should be doing while we are here for the week.
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks like you had a thoroughly wonderful time in Tucson, but it is a pretty fun town...Looking forward to seeing new park pictures too. T.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great birthday! Our Daddy turned 50 this week, but we promised not to tell, so...
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a pretty good birthday for a human... although I did note the lack of a tuna cake. Which only proves you people don't really know how to LIVE!
ReplyDeleteHappy belayed birthday to you ! Wow ! what a wonderful celebration and what an adventure with the cake, lol !
ReplyDeleteI remember I celebrated my 50 in the States, we were just in the Sequoia National Park and I had a hamburger under a sequoia tree, lol ! That's all I can remember. It also was 20 years ago !
Fantastic birthday stuff, and we are celebrating here with you: Äiti wants the cakes and we want the box!
ReplyDeleteWhat a story -have still have a smile on mine face I see the hole story passing by... ..
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your birthday! Sounds like a great way to celebrate it.
ReplyDeleteThe angel food cake story was priceless. I must admit, I'm salivating over the yummy photos, what with my sweet tooth. :-)
ReplyDeleteI noticed that there was even a "Happy birthday Tricia" sign on the corner buffet/cabinet. Nice touch!
Well happy old birthday to you!!! I am coming at 50 from the other direction. Got a way to go ;)
ReplyDeleteSO SO SO jealous of the Hello Kitty makeover. Don't suppose Scrotch wants emigrate does he? :D
Well, that looks like the most fun 50th evah! And how is it that your mother has a 50 year old daughter? Because you could be sisters. srsly!!!
ReplyDeleteMy Kitchenaide is old... and well-loved. I have the pasta attachment which, oddly enough, I have never used. I love chicken, fish and pasta, not necessarily in that order. Mostly, I combine my love of chicken and pasta fairly often. My bil makes his own pasta and ravioli and it's to die for. Me? I must be lazy in the pasta making department.
I turned 50 a bit more than 8 years ago. I vaguely recall that fifty was nifty. Enjoy!
big hugs xoxo
That looks like a pretty good birthday for a human...
ReplyDeleteGlad the last try with the cake was a success :)
My mom-person LOVE your Hello Kitty pimped ride <3
I enjoyed every word and picture! Happy Birthday again though I am sure I prodded Mommy on your FaceBook. MOL.
ReplyDeleteLoved the blog. And the box will live happily ever after!
Looks like Sheebie had a great birthday. Wow, three cakes, and there weren't even 50 candles. 50 is still just a baby to us. But glad you had such a good time at the parents. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteIt was my birthday last week...I only got one cake!!
Jane x
What a great birthday you had! There's nothing like being pampered and spoiled for a few days, right? I celebrated that one a few years back, I must admit.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your pimped ride! Good going, Scott! And I've got one of those mixers too...but don't use it nearly as much as I would like. Enjoy yours! And enjoy the box, The Baby! :)
The Mom
Good for you, what a great "get away" special time with your parents is priceless!
ReplyDeleteI have a Kitchen Aid mixer too, it's the best mixer out there and worth every dollar!!
Love the car bling, for me it would be poodles.
My big fifth was great too, I got a royal standard black poodle, Luke.

ReplyDeleteWow... glad to see you got some 'ME' time (away from the Horde), but I'm sure glad you're back!!! Happy 50th, and many more to come. Stay healthy, happy and most of all, 'bloggy' (I've been suffering withdrawal symptoms ever since you went on your blogcation), lol!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! It looks like quite a celebration. We didn't know you could turn a car into a HelloKitty edition. This may have to be investigated further....

ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday and what a birthday! Think of all the yummy things you can make with that Kitchen Aid! Love the Hello Kitty makeover :)
ReplyDeleteMy 53rd was the 4th. I have had angel food cake every year for my birthday since I was a tiny girl. Mom used to use a mix back then but now its store made. I've always used her from scratch icing recipe too. Tradition.
ReplyDeleteHello Kitty! I was at Taco Bell one day and a little girl came in with the sweetest H.K. knit cap. It was a H.K. face with stick up ears on top. Seriously I thought about bribing her a buck for it. She would have taken it too, she was only 3!
Sheebie what a wonderful wonderful well deserved holiday/bday/anniversary vacay!!
ReplyDeleteI love you and your dad having a slow eating contest. I well remember my first taste of real NYC cheesecake at a Deli in NYC...I'm told it took me an hour to eat it.
