Sheebie on Foot

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

I hiked up an itty-bitty mountain on Friday.
The weather was delightful--low 60's and no wind.  And SUN, of course.
There are lots of ATV and horse trails up in the mountains to explore and I don't know why it's taken me 12 years to figure this out...sometimes I am a real moron.  I've discovered that Google Earth is a great tool to determine where I want to go!

Excuse my dirty shoes--I have a pair of hiking boots on order, a necessity for going four-wheelin' around here--when I get home my socks are full of icky grit.
I spotted a pumice rock on the path.  I've mentioned in the past that our area used to be very active geologically--there's an old cinder cone just a few miles from my house--and we occasionally get the odd tremor when Mother Earth shifts her bones.

The mountain(ette) I hiked up divides my subdivision in two.
The water reservoir is at the top to supply steady system pressure.
The left side of the mountain faces West and the Strip, the right side looks East out over my house and beyond to Lake Mead.

The top of the mountain has been improved and is for sale, and I'd love to build up here--the views are magnificent.  Too bad it's not free...
At least I can come up here and look around all I want for the cost of a walk.
Our house is at the tip of the subdivision.

You can just see Lake Mead in the upper left, and that's Lake Las Vegas (Where BlogPaws will be in May!) to the right.

There were some fabulous rock formations in a small canyon that I passed through; I'm going to bring a "real" camera next time I hike up there and try to get some panoramic shots to show the true scale.

I sure hope you don't mind seeing all my trampy photos!  I just think it's so beautiful here and worth sharing.

Happy Sunday!

  1. It looks like the pyramids there in the beginning

  2. We would LOVE low 60s around here right now, but not to run up mountains. Running around the yard would be good enough.

  3. We find it very strange to know that the top of a mountain is for sale. But we admire your energy in hiking. We only have enough energy to nap and eat treats.

  4. You just be careful out there gurl. Remember what happened to that poor kid in Breaking Bad!

  5. It's so cool that you have a mountain(ette) in your neighborhood. We don't even have hills, unless you count the on-ramp to the highway. What amazing places you have to explore!

  6. I grew up in the deserts of Eastern Washington, so the scenery is beautiful to me. Looks like a nice place to walk, but please remember to take your cell phone along in case one of those big rocks jumps out to trip you. Have a great weekend! T.

  17. The scenery is lovely and so different to ours. I didn't realise Lake Mead was so close to Las Vegas. When we stayed there we took a tour to Zion National Park and went to Lake Mead first. We went with Pink Jeeps and they only had us booked as someone had cancelled, so we had the guide/driver all to ourselves.

  18. Who knew there was more than the city to Las Vegas? I guess you did!

Incredible views, you are fortunate to have the terrain (and weather) you do.

We're at the start of the snow mountain building season. It's just a pimple now...but by the end of the winter...

    Have a great week!

  23. Our mom appreciates the photos. It is different from where we live and so beautiful. That was more of a hill than a mountain, but Mom says she thinks it still looks like a very tough hike. 24. I got to thinking. All of our pawrents have unique views where we all live. Our moms and dads should show those as you do.
