What I Did on My Summer Vacation

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

So, last week Scott while was gone on vacation and I had the house all to myself!
It was verreh, VERREH nice.
An uninterrupted orgy of book-reading happened.
The house stayed TIDY.
I went to bed early and slept late.
Bliss.

Of course, I had the whole The Baby Surgery ordeal, but other than that anxiety (which was pretty much done with by Wednesday) I had such a relaxing week, and I finished Annie Sloan painting/waxing my step back cupboard...plus I did the table!  Bonus.  I took some quick phone pics before I left for work to show you the finished project:
I'm going to start on the chairs next week.  The legs of the chairs and the feet on the table are going to be painted black--I realized that the cream paint shows scuffs far more than I like, so I'll do a two-tone theme, and maybe stencil the table-top as well if I feel adventurous.  I'm just thrilled at how nice this turned out.

The other thing I did while hubby was gone was purchase a new, inexpensive, sectional sofa.  It's one of those "bycast-pleather" made-in-China dealios but with 13 cats it makes no sense to spend a lot of money.  I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it is, and the seat height is good so that Scott can get up  from it easily with his dicey knees.  The kitties moved in immediately, and you can see I made it all snuggly for them with the Leopard Binky.  Spoiled brats.
(Pay no attention to the blue towel over the bicycle.  That's where Scott drapes it when he comes in from the hot tub and short of thwacking a rolled-up newspaper on his rear end I don't think I can break him of the habit...*sigh*)

I also ordered the rubber cove base for the walls--that's the last thing we need installed to complete our redecorating project.  Hopefully by the end of the month it'll be done.  Scott says our house feels so nice and cozy again and I agree.

Did I mention the sofa is really comfy?
(and that Scott will pay?)

Happy Sunday!

  1. You house looks like a magazine! In the best lived-in + comfortable way of course!) But lovely and inviting. I think it would take more than one cat to keep you down like that....

  14. The table and buffet look terrific, awesome job. Gees, anything I try to do as a DIY fails miserably. LOL. No talents in that department.

  15. I love your step-back and table. What a great job you did. I didn't realize your home was open-concept. Love that. Audrey wants to come play 'chase the mouse' 'cause you have more floor room than us. She wants you to call her. Your sectional looks very comfy and I see it has already had a work-out. :)

  16. Great results on the step-back and table. The head peep is never brave enough to do that. We have a coffee table that is antiqued with gold paint that she it itching to do something -- anything -- with, but she keeps chickening out. Your results are pretty inspiring, though.

  26. Wow, you have done so much work since the visits during Blogpaws, and you were working hard before that too. I can't wait to see what you do with those chairs. My dad has a couple just like them (from the 60s or 70s at the latest).

  29. The table and cabinet look lovely! The open concept is wonderful, it's what I would want in my next home.

The couch look very comfortable. How would it hold up to the cats scratching it? I've got my old couch covered because Saku did such a number to it. I'm afraid to by something new, knowing it would. probably end up the same way.

Glad you had a wonderful, productive vacation! Have a great week

  31. Everything looks pawsome. When it was time for a new sofa and love seat Mom and Dad went with inexpensive too. They decided they would rather get a new set every couple of years. It's now a year old and still purrfect....go figure :)

  32. Everything looks great! We think that looks like Grayce laying on you but everyone else says it's Rupert so we're probably wrong. Glad Scott is back so he can get those behind the scenes photos! :)

PeeS: Where'd you find that Ess in the 2nd photo with the sisal over the top? Ours is about shot but the only ones we find are with the sisal in the front of the Ess only but Angel loves it on top.
