Friends and Kitties!
My folks bought me a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer last year for my 50th birthday, and I absolutely love it.
I bake about every ten days, keeping us in bread and cookies, rolls and challah.
Recently I made a batch of bagels, and they were delicious--but ugly as sin--I had some engineering hurdles to leap with forming the little suckers. The second batch turned out way prettier, and even better tasting.
I made both plain and poppyseed.
Scott claimed to be uninterested in my bagels, but he changed his tune as soon as he saw the fresh cherry-blueberry jam I had made to go on top! I made 16 bagels and they didn't last out the week...and I'm here to tell you that I was not the lone consumer...turns out Scott was more bagel-friendly than he thought!
I used THIS BAGEL RECIPE borrowed from my friend Patty over at Broken Teepee. She blogs quite a bit about food--and books!--and I've yet to make something from her site that's been less than wonderful. I made her Pretzel Rolls last Thursday for sandwiches and they were gone before I could get photos! No worries though, I'll be making them again, and soon.
I have a mixer, and I'm not afraid to use it.
Happy Sunday!

Your bagels are beautiful. I thank you. I am going to experiment with tomato/basil/cheese next. I will let you know how they come out.

This is very timely or me because in just the last few days I've been thinking about baking again. Your bagels look amazing, especially with homemade jam. That may be a bit ambitious for me but definitely something to aspire to. I'm definitely going to check out that blog.
ReplyDeleteSend 'em over!

Wonderful bagels and jam!!! Yum
ReplyDeleteWow, those are some awesome looking bagels! And the jam makes them irresistible!
ReplyDeleteThose look fantastic, I love poppy seeds. I didn't realize one could make bagels at home. The bagel shop has massive equipment, who knew a Kitchen Aide mixer and good recipe could do the same.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Oh yum! Your bagels look so delicious!
ReplyDeleteGlad Scott discovered he is bagel-friendly :-) Life is better with bagels, I believe!
Can you hand one of those through the screen with the jam too please. ☺
ReplyDeleteI love bagels and my Kitchen Aid mixer. Now you've got me wanting to make bagels. Those look delish especially with the home made jam...

Mum says your bagels look yummy ! Do you know how to bake tuna flavored bagels ? Purrs
ReplyDeleteMom says those look nommy. Many years ago our grandma got one of those mixers and loves it.
ReplyDeleteThe head peep has one of those mixers and never uses it. Something about the HBO words for how heavy it is when she gets it out of the bottom of the pantry due to lack of counter space... but those bagels would be worth a few HBO words. They look amazing!
ReplyDeleteThey look yummy and home made is always best
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great- how do you have time to bake when you have a baker's dozen of cats to care for?
ReplyDeleteMom says she suspects Scott would eat anything if he could put that jam on top. It looks so yummy. Our Dad is the baker in our house and is on his second Kitchen Aid. He wore the first one out after 28 years. Mom won't let him bake too often 'cause she is a carb addict and can't stop eating his nommy creations. Enjoy...she thinks those bagels look great.
