Marauding Mancat Monday

Kitties!

Rupert here.

If there's one thing all of us cats here at the Lounge enjoy (even Scouty!) it's playing with string.  This can be risky--swallowed string can turn into a very Bad Business, as some of our pals have learned first-hand.  So we compromise with a short string on a wand, and always supervised play. (Mommy ties a few knots in the end for Sylvester.  His claws are gone so this way he can grip the string almost naturally.)

The string toy lives in a drawer when we're done playing, and Mommy hopes--if she ever would forget and leave it out by accident--that the shorter length would translate into less string ingested.  Not that she ever wants to test the theory...and she uses natural hemp string so if we do eat any little frays while playing that they're non-toxic.

Anyway.  I love the string toy; here's a little movie of me killing it mercilessly.  Sorry it's so badly lit, Mommy shot it late at night and she's a lazy tight-wadded wench who won't put on the lights so it's kinda glarey.

OK, maybe I'm stretching the truth calling my actions "marauding", but I sure did teach that string a lesson!

What are some of your favorite toys?

Happy Monday!

  1. You did an EXCELLENT job with that string! That kind of wand toy is my favorite too, though I also loves my fevvers.

No, Blogger did NOT eat your comment--if you scroll down, you'll see the very same post again with your Katnip Lounge comment all intact. For some reason, because the post was started yesterday, Blogger would not post it as 2/1--instead, it turned up as 1-31, UNDER the previous post so the Human had to copy and paste the whole thing into a new post dated 2/1 so she could repost yesterday's post and aren't you sorry you asked about this now?

  10. Echo's favorite toys are bugsy and his special gray mousei. Ocean loves crinkle balls and the red dot. As for me, well, I'm not that much into playing. If mom gets out a wand toy, I'll sometimes humor her and chase it a little.

  11. That was a good game with the string. Was that the delectable Miss Pea eating behind you?

  12. Chucky lurvs his Neko Fly with a Kittenator mousie on the end. It's hidden in a drawer too, because Chuck will eat that string if given a chance to. I give a Neko Fly toy to any one I know who adopts a new cat, because I know cats love them! Nice action on that string, Rupert! How'd you get a name like Rupert, anyhow? Did you lose a bet?

  13. Chasin' string sure is a lot of fun but yeah, only to be done under very close supervision.

  18. Excellent string work there! We like the big red cord strings here, no one can swallow them! Especially with the knot in the end. They do get dragged around though.

  19. Whoa! That string certainly knows better than to mess with you! Good job on your mom keeping it under strict supervision too!

  20. Good job with that string! There is a toy at Walmart for $10 called fling a ma string or somethying like that. It has a red string that moves randomly.

  21. Pawsome string work Rupert..we specially liked the chewing part!

Sasha's favorite toy is a rubber twisty toy (mom bean doesn't know what it is really called). It tends to disappear under the couch so he doesn't get to play with it furry much.

Sami will chase the wand toy, but she prefers spectator sports. Saku obliges her as he'll play with anything, though we thinks his favorite toy is.....mom! He loves to put the bitey on her, MOL

  23. You killed it, Rupert! We like string toys too...like Da Bird and Neko Fly. The mom has to put them away when we're not playing with them because some cat around here (Zoey!) likes to eat string.

  24. We have never been eaters of household items like string, but TBT says he had a way-way-way-before kitty who liked Christmas Tree plastic tinsel. Eventually, it trailed out the "back end". His Dad would just step on it ta remove it as she walked by. Made her jump a little in surprise...

  25. Oh, string is FUN! Hobbes likes String, but Grace likes Sparkle balls instead. Hobbes ate String when he was a kitten, but it came out okay. Whew! Now we put it away after playing with it with him. Don't want to take chances.

  27. Our most favorite toy is a broken wand toy - the attachment broke off, so now it is just the wand and the string. BEST TOY EVER!!! Mom and Dad always put it up when we aren't playing with it though -- for safety reasons. But we wouldn't evvvveeeeeer eat, would we guys? ;)

  30. Rupert my pal, I won this awesome wand toy from Glogirly a couple of years ago. When The Kid Sage came to live here, she decided she liked the 'string' sans 'toys' the best. So we now have an upstairs and downstairs wand string toy just for TKS...and I like it too...once in a while for a change up from my fave peacock fevver
