The Things We See!

Kitties!

So, here's what happened to Daddy...and no worries, there are NO PHOTOS in the post of his injury, or anything gross.

OK.  Mommy and Daddy are swapping the second bedroom and the office, which means furniture moving, which means shifting Daddy's Massive Desk, which has HAD a giant piece of glass on it to protect the wood.  Mommy had ideas on how to move the glass (which already had a large crack in it) involving tape and blankets...but Daddy, being impatient, had other ideas and without saying anything to Mommy he tried to take it of the desk.  In sock feet, with his bare hands!  No gloves or shoes...what a moron.

Mommy heard the terrible crash, and then "uh oh" from Daddy--never an optimistic statement--and she shot off the sofa to find Daddy in the middle of trillions of sharp shards of glass and pouring blood!  Mommy is good in a crisis though, she tossed Daddy a towel, told him to apply direct pressure and hold his hand above his heart while she ran for his shoes and her car keys.  Fortunately the broken glass was contained in the office so they made sure none of us were in there (as IF, after the explosion from the Terrible Crash), shut the doors and took off to the emergency room.

Daddy was very lucky.  The glass cut a 2cm x 1cm flap on the top of his right hand, but missed anything critical--no veins or tendons severed.  The ER doc put in seven stitches and said Daddy can take 'em out himself in a week!  Mommy went back home to deal with the glass (they are 5 minutes from the Hospital) while Daddy was waiting to be sewn up and the whole ordeal was done and dusted in about two hours...however NOT a relaxing evening for any of us.

But it could have been worse.  Mommy had been toying with the idea of an evening walk just before Daddy pulled his stupid stunt had his accident; he could have been home alone.  The glass could've cut deeper and caused serious injury.  One of us could've been hit with or stepped on glass.  As it stands Daddy will have an interesting scar and Mommy is having a wonderful time giving him major amounts of shit grief over the whole thing.

Thank you all for your well wishes and concern.  Aside from some swelling and achiness Daddy's hand is perfectly able to scoop, open cans, and dole out chicken snacks so all's well that ends well.

In other news, Maui and John got shaved...

Happy Friday!

  3. Whew, your male human really dodged a bullet... or would that be a glass shard? I'm glad all is well again, and his hand is healing.

  4. Just under a year ago we seem to recall bloods after Mommy was using a simple kitchen utensil.....in our kitchen! But seriously, we are glad Daddy is fully functional but please ensure he is gloved before scooping. And whadya mean with that throw away line, oh and the furries got balded ???? We want photos.

  5. YIKES!!!! Grateful for the lack of photographic evidence - no need for that! Glad to hear all will be well. Also super glad all the kitties stayed away - broken glass shards and kitties don't mix well.

Oh yes, we're glad the Daddy didn't hurt his feeding hand too.

  9. Holy cr*p! This is not the kind of adventure that ones wants to experience! We're glad your dad's okay (scary!) and are sending purrs for quick healing. Tell him not to be so impatient next time he wants to move something, and to take proper precautions. Oy.

  13. I am glad your Daddy's feeding/scooping hand is still operational. It could have been much worse! Next time maybe he will listen to Mommy, but it sounds like she has already told him that...several times.
    Photos of the nekkids please!!!

  15. Ouch!! Poor Daddy! And poor Mommy for having to clean up the mess! Good thing no kittehs were in the room snoopervising. As far as doors to rooms being open, we think the minute a door is open that is an invitation to come on in. No so, apparently, because "we" get chased out as soon as our little paws enter the room. Cranky Parents!! Anyway, glad to hear Daddy is doing good and Mommy is back on track. Everything is as it should be. *sigh*

  21. What a heroic thing your mom did. Our mom in the same situation would have collapsed. She cannot stand any blood at all. Glad to hear all's well.

  23. I feel badly for your poor Daddy and also glad your Mommy got the cleanup done without getting cut herself. In our house I am always hearing "Zero Falls Allowed" - now I think we have to add "Zero Messing with Glass" to that.

  24. OMC, we're sure glad your Daddy's injury won't cause any inconvenience to you kitties. Mom bean says dad should learn to listen to mom. Maybe next time?

  26. Holy smokes! Impatient daddies always cause all kinds of havoc, don't they? Lucky it wasn't worse!
Shaved Tiny Johnson and Maui? Oh no!! Poor naked kitties! When do we get to see THOSE pictures??

  27. We can only imagine the grief your mommy is giving your daddy ;-)

Nekked Tiny and Maui...they'll be cute...eventually.

  29. It is amazing what a slip of the hand - no pun intended - can do. Glad to hear that Dad has come through with nothing permanent (other than a scar for which he can make up something heroic about) resulting. We've all been there and done that. That doesn't mean it's not painful or a hassle to deal with. So all the kitties should purr and curl up next to him as much as possible.

  30. We hope your daddy learned his lesson...and we're SO glad the cut wasn't more serious.

  31. Yes, we hope your daddy doesn't do anything like that again. M says "that sounds like a man!" She could see D doing something like that also. Thankfully, your daddy will be okay and we are most happy for that. Tell him next time to ask for help - he doesn't have to be the "super hero" anymore.

  32. We are so happy no kitties were hurt and that your mom was home to take Dad Scott to the E.R. Usually when one of our humans hurt themself to require a trip to the E.R., the other one is out of town. Glad your dad can still take care of all your needs. 33. Whew, close call! What a lot of drama packed into two hours! Our mom's biggest worry [when she breaks something] is that we are going to start wading through shards and cutting our toesicles and licking our paws.......

Oh Boy...this is gonna be GREAT!
