Toadally Tuesday

Kitties!

We have Toads.

At least two of them live under the bushes in the front yard--in amongst the leaf litter--where it stays relatively cool and damp from the irrigation. They come out in the evening to feast on the moths that flutter around the lights at the front of the house.
Mommy braved incredible amphibian toady reptilian wrath (and their beady eye lasers) to snap a couple of photos.

They are voracious.  And fast.  The other night Mommy observed one while it hunted/caught/gulped down a HUGE insect in the blink of an eye!  (a revolting one with billions of legs, ewwwww--ed.)  They must dine fairly extravagantly because what Mommy thought was lizard poop on the driveway turned out to be toad turds and they are BIG.  Like 5-6 cm long.  Just in case you were interested.

This one looks about as happy as we do with flash photography.  Ha!

Mommy is pretty sure that our toads are Woodhouse's Toads.
(Click the link, they are interesting creatures!)

We have been warned not to play with the toads as they *might* be poisonous, but the odds of them wanting to get into the Catio are slim; we eat all the bugs there!

Happy Toadsday!

  1. We have ants and fleas. Maybe locusts are next. And rivers of blood. And then they'll come for the firstborns! Oh no! I don't know whether I was the first in my litter or not?!!

  2. Aren't Mommmies such killjoys??? We have those toads and we have bullfrogs! (Those are totally off-limits, too. Bummer)

  3. OMC, how awesome that you have toads! My human is envious. She has seen a couple of those billion-legged critters, and wishes she had a toad to take care of it.

  5. For some strange reason Äiti loves toadies. Not sure sure she'd love toadie turdies. We await audio recording of the sound of the screaming calf as Mr & Mrs Toad decide to make toadlets. Perhaps the babies could be sent to Spitty to help with the insect plague there.

  6. So... your mommy is out in the driveway measuring toad turds? Kitties, I think she might need a hobby... ;)

  8. We have toads too
Mom tries to watch out for them when she mows the backyard even though they are pretty fast too jump away. She ran one over on Sunday, but it turned out he was fine.

  9. Those are some seriously big toad-lings. We got a tiny froglet hanging out on the screen door in the rain the other night but we really don't think these guys could manage that.

  10. We will get a small frog on occasion in the flower beds, but never anything as large as your toads!

  11. Hokey Smokes, those are BIG toads! We may need some around here, since the mosquito population is exploding.
