A Big Pink Butt

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

I'd like to start by apologizing for dropping off of the commenting merry-go-round; I couldn't sustain it any longer.  Please know I still read approximately elebenty hundred blogs daily and if you suddenly, out of the blue, feel a snarky comment--it's mine!  I just sent it to you via brain waves instead of the internets.  Since Scott "gifted" me with a FitBit in December and our trip to Hawaii (where I climbed two volcanoes and realized I needed to step it up for next time) I've gotten serious about working out which consumes a couple of hours daily; time that I used to spend sitting and doing social media stuff.

I have discovered I love being active, again.  I don't know what the heck happened because I used to do aerobics and walk and lift weights, but after we moved to Nevada I became a slug, I think in large part because of the crazy shift work I did to begin with and then inactivity became habit.

Yoga started the ball rolling in 2013.  Breaking my kneecap set me back for a few months, but the silver lining was learning patience in dealing with injury and to be okay with not being "perfect".  (Which is a huge part of a yoga practice--acceptance--just being happy with what is.  It's harder than hell some days and usually only happens for a few minutes at a time.  Small steps.)  I absolutely look forward to every class I attend and never fail to do something great--maybe a really pleasurable stretch--and the feeling I get from class is euphoric, I can't put it any better than that.  You know the pleasure you get in your mouth from a delicious piece of chocolate?  It's like that, throughout your entire body.  For an HOUR.

And that damned FitBit...ruling my life...but I gotta say the thing is a wonderful tool.  There are real concrete results.  My resting heart rate is 10 bpm less, I have more energy, I can eat more (and have lost a bit of weight!) and I--for the first time in my life--can jog, comfortably, for a few minutes at a time.  I am amazed at myself, who knew?  There have been some unexpected benefits from all the walking and leg strength, too; my practice has progressed beyond my wildest expectations.  I'll be exploring this pose for a good long while before I feel confident, but I got UP and that's a major win right there.

I'm gonna use this one for a Sunday Selfie, even though I had to utilize the Hubby as the photographer:
Running Man Pose, or Eka Pada Koundinyanasana

Eka = One,  Pada = Foot,  Koundinya  = the Sage Koundinya ,  Asana = Pose
(the link has a lovely photo of the pose)

Scott also kindly took a photograph highlighting my big pink butt.
You are Welcome.

Happy Sunday!

  2. I hear you, seriously. I read a lot more blogs than I comment on. Sometimes I just can't think of a thing to add or say. Sometimes I have cats sitting on my arms and can only work the mouse to call up and read blogs, but no fingers left to type with. And sometimes I'm just too tired. I used to feel bad, but then I remember that 'blogging without obligation' thing from a while back, and add 'commenting without obligation' I hope everyone knows I love them and their blogs. I do tend to comment on this one more than other, maybe because you give me so many opportunities to say something that makes me laugh out loud! (blankey wedding for one, lol)
Love the pose, from any angle, lol! Seriously, good work!

  3. My human found the same thing when she got her FitBit from her boyfriend! She isn't as ambitious as you - she only works out maybe an hour every day, just enough to get in her 10,000 steps, plus strength train on the days she does weights. Occasionally she'll do yoga - that she definitely needs to do more! You have a really great practice, and it is paying off!

  4. Believe us, that is not what could be called a 'big' butt. And Äiti needs kicking into some Fitbit steps too - her mojo is a bit missing.

But we know what you mean - we read more blogs than we comment on - cannot find the right thing to say or felines block the keyboard etc. And Äiti feels guilty but also we blog for our pleasure to show the photos and narrate life here, and we love comments but fully understand if no one does comment - we can see we are visited and even if we were not, we 'd probably keep going!

Awesome pose by the way - such strength!!!

  10. Dang, I admire you. I need to get back on the fitness track too. Like you, I did aerobics for years...taught it for 10...then stopped...and just became a slug. I've tried to get motivated but just couldn't sustain it. Since getting my hip replaced...and still dealing with some residual pain and issues as a result...I haven't been able to get on track yet. I have a fitbit...but haven't started using it only because I don't want it to take over my life as I see it does so many others. You go, girl... ~The Mom

  13. You're very inspiring and that pose is impressive! Are you sure you're not doing all this so you can become a Vegas showgirl? :) I need to do more strength training as that's what makes me feel best. I don't wear my fitbit because I hate how it makes me feel obsessed and mad at myself when I don't meet my goals. That makes exercise zero fun for me. Anyway, thanks for the motivation!

  14. Wow, this is very impressive including this Running Man pose! I work out but just 30 minutes a day, 4 to 5 days a week. I know how strong your arms need to be to not only get in this pose but stay in it!

  19. I started running after Boston. I wanted to do something positive, in response to all the hate out there. At first, I could run for just 10 seconds at a time. Then I'd walk for 10 seconds. Slowly, I built up my endurance. Now, I run 5k 3-4 times per week, and I'll run my first race in September. I absolutely love it, especially when combined with yoga. The yoga helps me stretch out the running kinks, but you can also apply yoga mindfulness while you run. Focusing on the stretch and pull of muscles and the inflow and outflow of breath is a great way to be centered. Anyway, I love it that you're focusing on YOU and being in the present moment. If that takes you from social, so be it. I'll miss you, but I totally support you.

  20. Well done! You'll be rivaling the kitties in flexibility soon.

I'm a slug and realize it well. When I had my time off in 2015 I did lots of walking and was feeling good and kept it up when I came home for several months. Then I got lazy. I know I'd feel better, have more energy and look better if I'd get off my fat ass but come home from work exhausted so the thought of putting energy into something else is just not there.

    You are certainly an inspiration!

  22. Mom loves her Fitbit....it's what got her started exercising again. Eleventy billion years ago she taught aerobics and ran a ladies health club....years later she ended up managing Curves....when that closed she did NOTHING. Now she walks regularly and really enjoys it!

  26. Er, I don't think I'm ever going to unsee this. TW wishes she had a Fitbit cos she walks about 3 miles practically every day and loves it. TW is all blogged out to. We visit only about 10 people a day not and she's rethinking the blog. I may disappear.

  29. Wonderful, mum is trying to be more active now that she isn't working. More mentally tired than physically. So working up to be better.

PS, mum's deely boppers were temporary for the weekend. She wore THE Shirt too, twice. Big hits in both places!

  30. That is totally incredible that you can balance like that. Mom is in awe, since she cannot even balance standing upright on two feet. Dad's been doing yoga two days per week. Mom went with him a couple of times, but she ended up sitting most of the time. Keep up the good work. Thanks for hopping. 31. Congrats! That is wonderful!!!! I need to make that my next goal. I was away trying school and helping my parents downsize and settle. The first was a failure, the second...a successful work in progress. Now I need to set the same self goal of self improvement. Love the Tye-dye background!
