Kitties!
*meow*
We have something exciting to show you!
Well, truthfully, we could care less, but Mommy and Daddy are excited...
Do you see our canary palm?
It's doing something!
Daddy was taking yard photos and he noticed the palm tree closest to the driveway had lots and lots of bees going to it, so he investigated. Daddy would make a good Cat, curiousity-wise.
The bees were investigating flower buds on the tree. What makes this exciting is that this palm has never flowered before! The other one has flowered and even made fruit for several years but this one was a no-go...
...and by the next day, all the flowers were open!
Mommy is hoping to get some dates, which totally confuses us because she's already got Daddy to hang out with.
Anyway, that's the big news around the Casa de Catio!
For more gardening posts, visit Jonsie and follow the links, and we sincerely hope Ginger is doo-dooing his best to fertilize the garden there.
Happy Thursday!

Canary palm ? WHy does it have flowers then ? Why doesn't it sprout canaries. That would be ACE!
ReplyDeleteYES, I KNOW... she's a complete and utter doofus. You clearly stated CANARY palm. Though I fail to detect any delectable canary morsels in it. Maybe the Baby got 'em already. Does she haz a yellow mustache? When she gets one and holds it in her jaws of doom does she glow yellow? Does that mean she likes mustard? *or just maybe mustard on them* I'm a purist myself but you know what they say...

Is your daddy crazy or sumfing? What's he doing poking his tender & furless little head inside that giant beehive?
ReplyDeleteI bet he'd scream like a little girl if he gotted stinged on his nosie! Ha ha ha ha!

ReplyDeletebut when you said canary,,, well..... we thought you meant well.... Birdz ^..^
You know what they say about curiousity and cats! We think they said that because of bees! We're glad your daddy's curiousity didn't get him stung!
ReplyDeleteWe bets the flowers taste good too. But not as good as real canaries. AND they come with their purry own toys - BEES! Its like heaven! You have the bestest stuff out there!
ReplyDeleteSheesh. You humans get excited over the silliest things! Seriously, lizards are way more interesting. And I don't get the date thing either. Humans should stay home and not have dates.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, cool! You guys have some great nature over there.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful - do they smell pretty?
ReplyDeleteThat does look very exciting. My human would love dates too and I hope she gets some because then perhaps she'll get rid of the Male.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting and big news indeed! If the dates do appear, please show us the pictures...
ReplyDeletePretty! Do those smell good? Great garden post, kittehz. xoxo

ReplyDeletelovely flowers but we aren't too sure about the bees..... we were going to ask about what you get from that tree when mom laughed about the "date" comment....
ReplyDeleteThat plam and its flowers are very very interesting! Some dates would be quite a treat.
ReplyDeleteyour mom is very smart. it's good to have flowers if you want to attract dates.
ReplyDeleteWe are excited to see bees!!
ReplyDeleteSo many are disappearing, it is good to know there are some happy bees in the desert.
We do not understand the date thing, either.
Happy Thursday!

Wow -- that is way cool! I love it because I get to see things I would never see otherwise on your blog.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Maybe you'll attract some interesting birdies to come sing in it too!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Mommy getting dates.
Things are getting interesting at your place!
Me is sooo confused. It is a Canary Palm right now it has flowers and bees and it has Dates..?
ReplyDeleteToo much for this kitty. Me will need to sleep on this one!
Mommy thinks its cool though.

Luna - WE LOVE LUNA
Here is my opinion. I cut straight to the chase. I don't care about palms, on trees; the only thing I care about is palms on hands and those palms must have treats on them or I will bite them. I don't care about bees, on trees or flowers or anywhere else; the only thing I care about is whether you can bite them and since you clearly cannot bite them because they bite first, I do not care about bees. I don't care about dates where you have to put clothes on and, I believe, make-up also; that is a waste of time because you cannot bite any of that. Date fruit that you can bite may be interesting; I have not tried that yet. Keep things simple: Ask only this: Where is the bitey? That is all that matters in life. That is all.
ReplyDeleteOMC that is exciting news about your palm flowering...however, mom nearly fell out when she read you all didn't understand why she needed a date.
ReplyDeleteYou all crack us up.
Hugs Madi and Mom
How exciting for the humans that it's flowering... and how exciting for you guys to have lots of bees to chase!!! (just don't get stung now!!)
ReplyDelete=^..^=
There simply MUST be a canary tree that grows baby canaries, right? Are you sure birdies won't be popping out of there?
ReplyDeleteGinger is on lock down so he can't fertilize the garden...mom actually wants to see what's going in and coming out! Ewwww! Mom's are so gross.
We have never seen a palm tree blooming...how cool!
ReplyDeleteI have nefffurrr seen a tree like that... and with those buzzy bugs.
ReplyDeleteYour mom should be happy with the date she has, but if she wants another one then I hope your dad is okay with that
big bonks
We have a coconut palm that sometimes makes little coconuts, but our dad cuts them down because they are supposed to drain the plants of nutrients. Dates sound delicious though!
ReplyDeleteI think that's totally exciting!
ReplyDeleteWhen you said canary palm we started looking for yellow fevvers. So canary palms bring dates not fevvers?
ReplyDeleteWow! This is so beautiful!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOur Mom think that's very cool - but we're a bit confused... When do the canaries actually start blooming???
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!!
~Nico, Simon & JayJay :)
ps. May Ling, Simon is teleporting over right as we speak!!
Wow, a tree that grows canaries and dates for your mom! That is an amazing tree!

ReplyDeleteHere's the nekkid lady lit up!
We don't think we've ever seen a palm flower! Say, after the bees do their pollinating thing, are you sure the flowers won't grow into canaries?!?
ReplyDeletePip, Smidgen, Minnie, Hollie
Wow...that is seriously cool!!
ReplyDeleteThat is exciting that you have got flowers on your canary palm. We hope your mum gets lots of tasty dates.
ReplyDeleteOur mum is feeling silly. She didn't know dates grew on palm trees, she always assumed they grew on date trees. We think she needs to google these things before she makes assumptions.
I love seeing all those happy, happy bees. I wonder if they are collecting pollen or nectar or both, and what would canary palm honey taste like? What beautiful flowers!
