Friends and Kitties!
One of these things is not like the others.
Left foot, Right foot, Left Knee, Cane.
Can you guess?
It's the Left Knee! 'Cos the other three things are working just fine.
*sigh*
Thursday I tripped at work on some piping and landed knee-first on the concrete. It was really weird because I walk over those pipes all the time and I think to myself; "Self, these are a potential tripping hazard, in fact there's reflective tape on them which you requested. Watch your step!" Nonetheless, I managed to snag my toe and since I walk so fast I stumbled and couldn't recover. As I was going down I passed through some strange accident-related space-time distortion because it took forever to hit the ground and I remember telling myself I'd better put my hands out so I didn't land flat on my face. (Which I managed to avoid.)
The second thing I thought was that this was really gonna screw up my yoga...and the third thing was holycrapthishurtslikeamotha!!#@$%$!!!!
It took me two tries to stand up, and when I did I was incredulous with myself that I managed to do something so clumsy. This, from a gal who's molested by stray shopping carts. Someone who runs into walls that leap out of nowhere, in her own home. I managed to limp back to the Control Room, grab a bag of ice, and call my boss. I can't recommend injuring yourself at work--the paperwork is terrible.
So, as of Saturday night it's starting to get better, and I hope that there's no permanent damage. If I need to go to the Doctor of course it will be workman's comp, but I really hope this will heal without any medical interference intervention. The cane helps a lot, and the knee didn't ever swell very much or bruise. All the pain is in the lower left quadrant of the joint--right where I landed. Unbelievably enough my jeans didn't rip and my hands are totally unscuffed.
The takeaway from this is that I have a whole new "appreciation" for heavy doors and stairs. And out of defiance I'm going to yoga on Tuesday night. Also because I need to stretch out all the muscles that are tight from walking weird, but mostly out of defiance.
On a happier note, our 'Maters are coming in!
I had some for dinner, just picked, with salt and pepper, along with a potato and "sausage" fritatta, and the whole-grain bread I baked Friday night.
Delicioso!
All that good food will heal me up quick, right?
Happy Sunday, and have a Trauma Free Week!

Ugh. Sending you good healing wishes.
ReplyDeleteNow, see, if you were a cat, this wouldn't have happened! But since you aren't, the Human and I hope you continue to feel better and can stay away from the Stabby Place.
ReplyDeleteIn other news: FDW, I was STOKED at your messge. Mmmrrrrrrow. Do I wanna rumble??? Is your Mom using a cane?????
Ouchie....we hope you feel better soon!!
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Do be careful and don't hurt it more. Knees are tricky little devils....
ReplyDeleteI hope it gets all better.
Poor thing, I hope you heal up quickly!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your tomatoes look amazing! Tomatoes don't grow very well in the Pacific NW, sadly, so I get a little envious of successful tomato growers this time of year.
Oh ouch. I hope that you have lots of purrs. Did you know that cats purr at the same frequency that bones heal? So you know you have everything you need. Enjoy the tomatoes!
ReplyDeleteOUCH!!!
ReplyDeleteWe kittehz think this whole cane thing can work better for efurrybody if you tie strings to it, to drag as you walk along. Voila! New cat toy! It will also give you extra practice stepping over things! Win-Win!
ReplyDeletePee Ess - the Mommy hopes you're feeling better soon.
It doesn't sound like it is badly hurt, but treat it gingerly for a couple of weeks just to make sure... that is what my human says, and generally does when she does something clumsy.
ReplyDeleteOuch! Sending you lots of feel good purrs! Our human says yoga is good and will help in recovery.
ReplyDeleteOh, man, be vewy, vewy, careful with that knee - what you do this week could affect your life for ever - if it doesn't stop hurting right away go to your DR. Trust me - I have much experience in bad knees...(and I want you to know I almost passed out from thinking of your pain when I read how you fell. To quote you from a previous post, Crap, crap, crappitycrap crap!!!)
ReplyDeleteSending you healing thoughts! T.
Oh poor you, hope your knee feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awful AND painful. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteoh! oh! oh! I injured my left knee at the gym a few days ago. I smashed the halibut out of it, in fact. I could barely walk that day but it was much better the day after. Except my mother kept nagging me about icing it and going to the doctor and being more careful... much worse that a mountain of paperwork, I can assure you!!! Now I only have the lovely 50 shades of bruising to remind me. sheesh.
ReplyDeleteKlutz much?
Why, yes. Yes, I do, thank you.
Here's to a safer week to both of us!
What a klutz !!! It's the kind of thing I do *sigh*
ReplyDeleteIntrigued by appearance of cane. Is it a magician's prop?
You'd better keep away from stationary objects in future. They do have a habit of leaping about…….!
Srsly, take care of that aging joint !
Sending you multitudinous purrs for healing. Mom has a friend who fell in a similar way stepping over a low bank of snow - broke her leg near the ankle. So we are glad it would seem you didn't break anything.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Knees are so painful. I hope it heals and mends quickly but also that there are no problems down the road. Tale good care!
ReplyDeleteOuch! We're sending good thoughts your way that you won't need the interference either!
ReplyDeleteGet better soon and be careful while getting better.
Mommi and Grandma are often combating leaping walls and bed corners and what not, so we understand how The Things can getchya.
~Brooch Czarina
we were going to comment but Mummy Janey wouldn't let us use the bad words we were going to call the pipe...so
ReplyDeletenaughty,naughty pipe.
Hope you feel better soon.

Oh you poor girl! I hope your knee gets better soon!
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
Oh I hope your knee is better soon. I too am a bit of a clutz...and I'm always banging up and bruising myself in the weirdest ways.
ReplyDeleteSue
You take care of that boo-boo, girl, and make sure it doesn't get worse. Hope it heals up soon!
ReplyDeleteLovely tomatoes!! I live in another universse where I've only just finished planting out my seedlings, because the frost danger is now past. :)
Purrs from the boys for speedy healing, Trish. Some *gentle* Yoga stretches probably will help, but do consider physio if you think you might need more than Yoga, ice and time (a good physiotherapist, though).
ReplyDeleteOh goodness. It hurts more because of the age thing. If we were younger, we would be healed in no time! Hang in there and eat a ton of tomatoes!
ReplyDeleteLuf, Us and Maw
Only thing worse than a bad knee is a bad back. both mess you up real fine. Having had a knee problem for a couple of years I know how you feel. Get well quick and hugs from u.k.
ReplyDeleteBriony
xx
Ouch! The head peep sympathizes. At least twice a year, she does that exact same fall on wet tile somewhere in the kitchen, and the latest knee is only now turning back to the proper color.
ReplyDeleteWe highly recommend you try falling in the kitchen, while carrying a plate of chicken from the grill. Because nothing will bring us all running faster to provide a cleanup. And we don't require paperwork, either.
Purrs for your knee, and we hope it feels better soon.
Sorry Sheebie, you went flying right onto your knee. I bet you said worse words that that. Glad it isn't too serious. Just don't let those kitties trip you again. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteOuch! So sorry about your fall.
ReplyDeleteYou have some yummy looking 'maters, rest and enjoy!
~ The Bunch
Hope your knee heals fast... I was just telling myself I better get my tomato plants planted this week. Doesn't seem fair you already have tomatoes...
ReplyDeleteSeriously! I am coming over with a big roll of bubble wrap for you and Scott to apply liberally! I will take some of those riotous tomatoes as payment!!
ReplyDeleteOh My be careful. Dad tells his friend and us kitties too that accidents can really set you back.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting about. Purrs that you are back in Yoga and walking without that stick.
Timmy T and Family
well ouch woman!!!! tripped over the reflective tape :) mom loves ya.... hope you are feeling better soon with no interference
ReplyDeleteMaybe they'll add soft floors around those pipes now! Hope you're feeling better and everything heals up without medical intervention! The tomatoes do look yummy! How do you grow them there? My mom hasn't been able to figure that out without the hot sun frying them but tomatoes are her favorite food.
ReplyDeleteYIKES! I sure hope that ouchy is all better before you know it!
ReplyDeleteHope it heals with the minimum of intervention!
ReplyDeleteLove your Keens. I have 2 pairs just like them: in blue and in green. Best sandals ever!
Actually your Keens were the first thing I noticed in the picture..."Oh, she's wearing Keens."
ReplyDeleteOh so sorry, a knee injury is horrid! I hope it heals quickly for you.
ReplyDeleteThe tomatoes look wonderful, mine are just blooming, maybe in two months I'll have some.
Take care!
There is nothing that makes one feel more like an idiot than tripping and falling. We hope you don't have any serious knee damage.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your home-grown tomatoes. Nothing beats them :)
Sending lots of healing purrs.
ReplyDeleteour Mom who is having some dizzies in the head was squatted down in her closet and she fell oh what 3 inches backwards ... like you she put her arm out ... dumb move... she thinks she sprained her arm. Well at least it ain't broke, but it feels awful...so she can commiserate.
Ouch! Get well soon x
ReplyDeleteI hope your knee is soon better.
ReplyDeleteThose tomatoes look delicious!
OUCH! Hurty knees are a bitch!
ReplyDeleteFirst off…those tomatoes look scrumptious. Nothing better than homegrown. Glad you were not hurt seriously. Two years ago, mom was changing her clothes after gardening so she and Dad could ride the tandem. Next thing she knew she was on the floor. She heard it and felt it. Fractured fibula and displaced spiral fracture of the tibia. Twenty-two and 1/2 weeks later before she wasn't wearing a cast or boot. It's the stupid little accidents that get you. Please stay vertical in the future. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Misty May, Mauricio, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
ReplyDeleteOh my, that is such a bummer, and after all the cr@p you've had going on lately too! I am jealous about the tomatoes. My plants are tiny little sticks and with the cool weather we've been having, not growing at all.
ReplyDeleteYikes!!! We send you purrs for a quick recovery!! Bet it hurts lots.
ReplyDeleteMom says it probably hurts lots ;)
Purrs!!!!!
Purrs Tillie and Georgia,
Treasure,Tiger,JJ and Julie
Holy CAT!!!
ReplyDeleteYou better take it easy. Wouldn't want a kitty getting in the way of that cane thing. ; )
Take it easy, stretch, nap... just pretend you're the 14th cat.
(((purrs)))
You crapped fresh grown and picked tomatoes up with salt and pepper??? Gasp! I'm sorry about your knee but sometimes it's worse to catch yourself with your hands. Pop stuck his hands out to break his fall 2 years ago and wound up with a broken elbow. Glad you're not as old as he is cos the older you get, the easier your bones break.
ReplyDeleteOuch! This must have hurt like crazy :-/
ReplyDeleteHope it keeps on getting better. Sending you lots of purrs
So sorry. Those maters have got to help, tho. Beauties!!
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry about your owie, and hope your knee feels better very soon. We saw a news story about a lady doing something called "Prancercize". (It looks just like it sounds, but unfortunately does not involve a handsome gray tabby cat from Oklahoma.) We think maybe you should do that when you walk the property at work to ensure that your feet get enough clearance over pipes, etc. We are sure your coworkers and onlookers would enjoy it also.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain, Trish. Three weeks ago I was cleaning the garage, moved a BBQ propane tank to sweep the space, backed up and fell over it. The top ring is about 7" around. So, the bright purple round bruise I had several days later was about 8" wide on the back of my thigh. Biggest one I've ever had. You don't realize how much that part of your body comes in contact with other things. Take care and heal quickly. How could you not, with 14 helpful souls at your house. Hope the yoga helps. Advil and vodka work, too.
ReplyDeleteYay for the 'maters! Boo for getting hurt! Sheebie, we sure hope you're feeling better real soon...
ReplyDeleteOUCHIE!! I hope you didn't do too much damage in that fall. :( Dang, it hurts to fall now, doesn't it? And I bruise so easily now too--what is with that??! criminy.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better soon, my friend!
Well, WE think the odd thing out is the tile floor, cuz the other things all help you stand up!
ReplyDeleteAnd TBT is amazed at the tomaters being ripe already. That tells you how illogical he can be. Hes been buying them at the grocery store and they have to come from SOMEWHERE, right? So they are comin from YOUR yard obviously...
Sorry to hear about your knee! I hope its better soon without the doctor's involvement. Your maters are coming in? Holy cow, we are just planting them in the ground!
ReplyDeletehoping that by now you are ok and back to "normal" :)
ReplyDeleteOuch! We hope you heal soon! Meowm hates that whole space-time continuum when she falls.
ReplyDeleteNOW I see what happened. Blessings. Been there...done that.
