  1. Dood! You shouldn't get coal! You're not the one who left the butter out where a kitty could get to it! And everyone knows most kitties can't resist the butter! YOU should get toys. The PEOPLE should get coal...

  2. We agree, your Mom and Dad should get the coal. That is just too much temptation for any kitty, and you showed extreme self-restraint. Or are you a kitty who likes to look and consider first (your smile is wonderful by the way) ? I would have just run straight for it and got my furry mouth round the yummy yellow gold before the camera had a chance to focus!

  3. Who was taking your pic while you were licking the butter....? You are innocent!

  4. That was a set up Salem! There was no way you could resist that yummy butter so we think whoever left it out clearly for you to lick is the one who should get coal!

  5. Hello, my name is Raymond, and I'm a butterholic.

It's true! I love butter too. My humans got a baby lock for the cabinet where they keep the butter dish. So unfair. I want to come live in the Lounge.

  8. Butter rules. I think butter is better than presents!

P.S. It is really good on corn on the cob, after the corn is gone. Don't ask me how I know this. ;-)

  9. It would be unnatural not to lick it. I know I wouldn't be able to resist. No, not coal, ask for nip!

  10. We agree ~ it wasn't yoor fault. If peoples puts temptashuns in yoor way, they gotta expect the consequence. Come over to our blog straight away and get yoorself a "certified by Santa as NICE" button!

  12. Salem, we have to agree with everyone else. Not your fault that the butter was sitting there. No coal for you, that is for sure. Those beans should be ashamed that they left that butter out there. Take care and have a fun day. Maybe some more butter.

  13. The look on your face is priceless! I'm sure you'll find white stockings filled with butter! :)

  14. Would you believe I've never tasted butter? I'm a very deprived kitty!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh, we agree with the comments that it's totally your humans' fault. They left it out deliberately to tempt you, we think. YOU certainly don't deserve coal!

  16. Awwww elegant and adorable Salem! What great butter licking action pics!! Wow!!!

Why are you getting coal in your stockings when you can have butter!! Yum! take care

  17. if your photographer is around to capture your illicit butter tasting, then i think you have grounds for filing an appeal with santa.

  18. No coal for you - not your fault someone left the butter out (and then took pictures!).

  20. YAY, beautiful Salem!!!!!!! We are sure the butter was better than anything that fat man in the red suit could ever bring you!!!!!!! Yup, this from the boys that constantly get coal in their stockings even though they are purrrrrrrfect!!!!!!! :)

  21. Oh Salem - If your mom or dad left the butter out where you could see it we think it was provocation.

  22. Salem...too bad you weren't at our house last night with your stick of butter. My hubby left two pieces of unattended cornbread on our table....for 2 seconds...when he turned around a certain Diva Kitty was licking both pieces...I'm sure she would have enjoyed a little butter and might have shared to cornbread with you,

  23. When our gramma would leave butter out & her kitty would jump up to lick it, she'd just scrape off the licked part...that is if she *knew* the kitty licked it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  24. I'm all fainty from those mesmerizing close-ups--you AND the butter. I never stopped to consider the possible allure of an unattended stick of butter, but I have to say it does look mighty tasty.

And the coal? Pfft. As if! That's what those careless Humans deserve. You deserve cookies and toys and treats galore, and a few more sticks of that Golden Goodness.

  25. YA know what? This is THE BEST post EVER! Gotta love your honesty and I admire any kitty (or person) that goes after what they want!
I am tired of hearing about all the really good kitties out there!
If I were Santa I would bring you LOTS of pawsents!!!

  26. We agree that whoever left the butter out unattended should be getting the coal. NOT YOU, Salem!!!!

  29. Aw, Salem, was the Mom testing you? You're just a good kitty who likes butter. The mom should get the coal.

  30. Oh Salem, we would have tasted the butter too! Did you get enough to make up for the gifts you're not getting? We hope so. It's only fair.

  31. A few licks of butter is more than worth a lump of coal.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh Salem, I lick the butter every chance I get. I also fight mommy for her cereal and her eggs and bacon. I like toast too. She only lets me have a shadow of a taste!!!

Mommy says that you should tell your mommy to just shave off that little bit and not worry about your lick, MOL. Sandy Claws would have done the same. He understands, Salem.

  33. Your kitties must have been talking with my kitties because the butter dish is a very sore subject around here! Saffy ended up knocking it off the counter and breaking the lid. Now we are keeping it in the pantry. Naughty kitties!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. It looks like you only took one lick! You shouldn't get coal....that was just a taste test to make sure it was okay for the humans to eat!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hmm... we think Sandy Claws will understand the temptations we kittehs have to endure. He won't bring you coal, don't worry.

  36. Not your fault my friend they shuld not have left it out, far too tempting to leave alone.. Hugs GJ x

  37. Oh Salem how could you?!?! I don't think that even your fantastic black nose is going to get you out of this jam - lol!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mol! Now how can licking the butter be a bad thing if your folks take your pic-sher instead of shooing you away? :) We think Santa Paws will understand and you'll actually get bonus presents, Salem!

We think Max is right...you didn't leave the butter out right in your way, no way should you get coal from Santa Paws.

YOu sure did chow down on the butter though!
I can see your eyes are in a daze as you lick on that butter.

  41. Hi Salem! I just found your blog through Cat Chat Caren! You are very beautiful..my black & white kitty loves butter too!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think you should get nip just for having good taste and loving butter and not margarine. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x5

  43. Butter? Yeh, so what's the problem?! As I see it, you were tasting it to make sure it was still good. And pictures were taken for documentation purposes in case the butter was bad and made you sick. Right?! So doesn't that mean you get extra presents topped with fishy's for being so thoughtful. Yep, I rest my case. You've been moved the to "good kitty" list.....

    Purrs!

  44. Salem, you get a pass on this one...if the humans left the butter out, you are entitled to lick it!! No coal for you...maybe coal for the humans for tempting you like that!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Score! We have only gotten butter when we lick the peanut brittle pan! But this is no reason to get coal in your stocking.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If there is butter anywhere in the house it is MINE! There's no way Santa will give you a lump of goal for going after what is rightfully yours.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Haha ~ I hope not too much butter was eaten. The results could be a little... errr... messy! ;)

  48. Hi Salem. What wonderful pictures...they filled us with suspense, wondering if you were going to be able to get a lick before being shooed off the table. And you look so happy! By the way, we agree, there's no reason you should get coal in your stocking...ever heard of "entrapment"? We think you were set up! (after all, the hooman who was taking the pictures and probably chortling could have taken the butter away at any time if they really didn't want you to lick it. ) Great sequence of pics!
