Kitties!
KonaKitty here, with a really great story.
Once upon a time, when I was a teeny tiny kitten, I was rescued from the big bad cold Outdoors by a man and a lady that became my Daddy and Mommy. I was terrified when I was gotcha'd--but there was a humongous white kitty named Fuzzy who took me under his paw and taught me that people can be very nice. Fuzzy was a wonderful brother. He even let me nurse on him!
Fuzzy passed on at the ripe old age of 19, he had diabetes and was insulin dependent for the last seven years of his life. Mommy gave him his shot every morning before breakfast and he never complained.
I sure miss him.
There is another Important Person in my life who has diabetes, too--my Daddy. However, Daddy is not insulin dependent (Thank Cod), in fact he doesn't need to take medicine any more, either! Because earlier this year he decided he was tired of feeling awful, and he and Mommy decided to change how they ate.
They started with an HCG diet and did six weeks of lean protein, tons of vegetables, and only 500 calories a day. Surprisingly, neither one of them were too hungry, and Daddy started feeling better almost right away. When the six weeks were up they went to a whole foods eating plan, with an emphasis on FRESH food, lots of fruits and veggies, minimal meat and dairy, and no fast food or processed food. And portion control.
So far he's lost SIXTY pounds!
His laboratory numbers are good and he feels great as long as he doesn't eat "crap", or too much. Mommy had to buy him all new clothes because his pants kept falling down, and pretty soon he's gonna need another new set!
This is Daddy today.
You might be able to tell he's a Bears fan!
(He usually doesn't look this stern, he was just being silly.)
Kitties, I am so happy that Daddy is FORMERLY diabetic.
He says food made him sick, and now food is making him well.
I don't want to lose another family member to this awful disease.
Daddy, keep up the good work, and the chin scritchies...we all love you.
Happy Saturday!

Wow! That is pawsome! Excellent work, Mommy & Daddy! Our favorite Uncle died last year from diabetes. It was a slow, horrible death - he went blind, his kidneys stopped working and he had dialysis 3 times a week, he lost his foot then his leg and the infections had started on his other leg. In the end he couldn't talk or eat. It was terrible and broke our hearts. This is what you saved yourself from and we applaud you! It certainly is a happy Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's great news! My hubby Greg was just recently diagnosed with diabetes and we're really hoping that diet will help too.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news about your dad, Kona!
ReplyDeleteGood for your Daddy! The woman needs to get back to eating better--it's hard when they have no real kitchen but she is trying to avoid gluten mostly as that is the worst for her.
ReplyDeleteMy human is very impressed with your male human - it is not easy for humans to change their eating habits! He is doing a great job!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks fur the inspirashunal story! Your Daddy looks great (except that skeery hat). We can't belief that Fuzzy let you nurse on him! Now, that's brofurly luf!
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations to your humans! That is some serious willpower.
ReplyDeleteThat is really great news!!! Keep up the good eating habits, Daddy. The whole blogosphere is proud of what you have done.
ReplyDeleteKona Kitty, you are still cute - you must have been adorable when you were a kitten.
Well done to your Daddy!! You are a lovely cat. :)

Great job, Daddy! And you look great, Konakitty (I was just thinking of you since you haven't posted for sometime).
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story KonaKitty! Your dad (and Mom) have shown great self control. Speaking as someone who has dietary issues, I salute you :)
ReplyDeleteWe are so happy your Daddy is able to control his diabetes through his diet. Mommy has a cousin who can too.
ReplyDeleteWow that is fabulous that Daddy and Mommy are eating so well. No wonder he feels so well. Good for him. You kitties have the best beans in the whole world.
ReplyDeleteYou are a great cheerleader and your Daddy looks great!
ReplyDeleteHooray for your Daddy, healthy is so darn good!!!

ReplyDeleteWow ! that's a good initiative of your Daddy ! congratulations to his weight loss ! He must feel much better not carrying so much weight around !
ReplyDeleteI am so glad your daddy got well, Kona Kitty. That was one of the best stories you have told here.
ReplyDeleteConcatulations to your daddy and your mommy for making life altering changes and benefitting so well from them. xoxoxo
Beautiful KonaKitty!! Me and Charlie just know Daddy with Mum's help is gonna be A-OK!!!! Especially when he wears that hat. Yay!! :-) Take care

WOW! That is some accomplishment for both of them! That is very hard to change the way you eat....and live!
ReplyDeleteI like Daddeh because he is a Bears Fan--we live in Chicago and there are LOTS of those here. :)
That's great news to hear how your two legs dad is doing so well on his healthy diet and your mom too. He must have great self control. Our two legs mom eats far too many sugary snacks and should be more careful as diabetes runs in her family. Hope you have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteDaddy is looking great!
ReplyDeleteType 1 (insulin dependent) runs in our family, and that's not the kind you get by being overweight. Our boy now 23, got it when he was 10 and he's had a pretty rough time of it, mainly because he doesn't take care of himself. Whatever type you get, self care and self caring is a most important factor.
Lovely pictures of you Kona! Fuzzy was a magnificent and generous cat!
That is a great story, and I'm so happy your Daddy discovered that good food can make him healthy!! It truly does make a difference. I'm also glad you were gotcha'd into this wonderful family. If you get a chance, please pop over and read my post. Happy Saturday!!
ReplyDeleteKonaKitty, we're so glad you were gotcha'd by your mommy and daddy and we're very happy to hear about your daddy too! Concatulations to him for making the changes to feel so much better! Now he can play with all of you way longer before he gets tired!
ReplyDeleteWe are so happy your Daddy is doing so well .. Takes a lot of willpower and your Mommy was so good to help him prepare the right kind of foods!!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, Mommy and Daddy ^..^

Congratulations to your daddy. Our Mom Paula has lost 23 pounds since September using Weight Watchers. She says she is really starting to feel better, but still has a long way to go.
ReplyDeleteTruffle and Brulee
We are so thankful yoor daddy is well now. Mom's human son was diagnosed with Mody type 1 diabetes a couple of years ago, and he did the same thing and controls his diabetes with out medication now. xx
ReplyDeleteThat is a great story. We certainly agree about highly processed and fast food, and always make sure #1 serves us the very best!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd as #1 lives in Chicago for three and a half years, she agrees about Da Bears!
Purrs,
The Chans
Congrats to your daddy. He has done very well and looks great for it. Our mum changed her eating habits after she had her operation and is eating more fish and lots of fruit and vegetables and has cut out bread altogether.
ReplyDeleteyea! I'm so happy your food choices are working wonders for you. They do wonders for kitties too. I had a diabetic kitty and two kitties who became blocked with urinary cyrstals while on a premium dry food.. I switched them over to a raw - very low plant based ingredient diet - and my two urinary boys are doing great and my insulin diabetic for 7 years (seven units twice a day) took almost no insulin. Sadly she developed cancer shortly after we started the diet, but I'm sure it would have done wonders for her diabetes if we could have kept her eating it.
ReplyDeleteNo more sick saturday.. i do really like that title.
Awww sweetie - what an inspirational message. Congratulations to your dad. He can be very proud of himself for that accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteSo good post!
ReplyDeleteLove for you, all!
Kisses

Well done. Really, truly, a terrific accomplishment. Cats off. Now: How about a picture of both Mommy and Daddy. Their fashion sense looks similar. This would be a real treat for the eyes. Come on. How about it.
ReplyDeleteHooray for your dad !
ReplyDeleteHe sure look healthy in the picture !
Hooray for fur dad. This is the best thing I've read all day! We are what we eat. Both my brother and sister have diabetes and I'm sure my diet keeps me healthy.
ReplyDeleteHooray for getting healthy! Inspiration to be sure! Diabetes - not fun - but it sounds like dad has everything under control. Good stuff!
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
Good for your Daddy KonaKitty. Here's hoping more of the folks with that disease can break it and live a more healthy life. I'm still trying to get my Lady to do the diet. She is not insulin dependent, but she's definite border line and way over weight. We are taking care and working on the diet most daily. It's even helping me.
ReplyDeleteLove the pix, and the 'stern look' Dad has. Dads just gots to have that look otherwise the Moms will take advantage donchaknow?
Ohh! KonaKitty that was a great story. We are so glad you have such a great Furever Home too.
ReplyDeleteYou are Beautiful as always!!
Happy Caturday to you too!!
Concats to your daddy! That is a huge accomplishment and know you are all so proud of him.
ReplyDeleteGO BEARS!!!
Yowza! 60 pounds, but we forgive him for being a Bears fan. We realize this is an addiction, it can be cured, better to have Packer-itis.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pawsome story! Yer dad looks great & we are so happy that your servants have their priorities straight and take care of themselves so they may better serve you!

PeeSss: That Woman has type 2 diabetes in her family so she does the 'sugarbusters' diet to keep her sugars in check so she won't get it. **Tho I must say she's been reallly lax but she seems determined again now that her moaning hors are in more control**
xoxo
That's so pawsome, Kona! Concats to your dad and mom too!

Way to make changes to save your life! good job! Its always harder when it is your self and not your cats.
ReplyDeleteWow, KonaKitty! That is awesome news for your daddy! He looks great...even if he looks a little stern, too! Diabetes is a nasty disease...and we're glad your dad and mom figured out a way for him to beat it!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the bestest story!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story. My mom person' dad has diabetes, he's managing it with diet, but doesn't have a very good committment to it. We're going to give him a gentle reminder.
