Deep Dark Secrets...

Kitties!

The Baby here, and I have some fantastic dirt to dish!
I'm gonna need a little help though.

DADDY!
Get outside and take the pictures I need.
Now!

Daddy:  Yes, Ma'am!

This is our front yard.
Daddy loves to garden and the past couple of weeks he's been working out here, transplanting bushes, resetting the stepping stones, and all kinds of heavy manly man stuff.

The big oval in between the palm trees is new.

Do you see the big urn-thingy in the middle?
You do?
Good.
Because it was FREE!
Mommy garbage-picked it.

That's right, Mommy AND Daddy are garbage pickers.
They slow down when they drive by "interesting" trash...you just never know if there might be something good in there!  In fact, our old house was once furnished in the Late Twentieth-Century Castoff style.

But I digress.

Last Sunday Mommy was driving down our street and the urn-thingy was sitting in a pile of trash.  She tromped on the brakes, jumped out, and assessed it...the urn was a score!  But it was too heavy to load into the back of her car.  Not a problem, she raced home to get Daddy--you never want to be "out-picked, you know"--and they zoomed back up the block to retrieve their prize.
And now, it's resting in our front yard.

Recycling at it's best.

Happy Thursday!

  1. One human's trash is another human's treasure! Of course it is the same way with us kitties - someone here is always taking someone else's castoff toys.

  2. Great dishing, Baby! Looks like a great find even if it was in the trash. It looks great in your yard.

p.s. I love those stepping stones!

  3. ooo pretty urn. We have two sets of beans that drive thru our neighborhoods on each garbage night. I think it is a great way to get stuff! We want to see more cool treasures

Your daddy did a very good job out front. It is awesome!

  4. Baby, that is a great find. My Aunt got Mom to picking through trash. It's fun, she says. Your front yard is bootiful, Baby.

  5. OUTSTANDING TRASH-PICKING! TBT never sees good stuff like that...

  6. That's really cool...I mean that really cool piece of art could have ended up in the landfill...what a tragedy! Your mom is a hero.

  7. Ahahahaha!

Your place looks great, The Baby! Go mark your territory!

  8. Message from rescued urn: I love you baby! So, mommy didn't just rescue strays, she also rescues discarded work of art. Paws up!!!! purrr....meow!

  9. It looks amazing! That big
oval looks like a good place to leave a little "surprise package". MOL!

  10. Wow! That is way cool for your yard! The Woman isn't that good about garbage picking--but she is certainly keeping an eye on things like freecycle and Craigslist for really cheap and free deals!

  11. Good for your mommy. Better than in the landfill!

  12. That is most excellent. Trash picking doesn't tend to happen here as most people sell stuff that can be worth any money at all. And if not, it's not worth picking in general. When Äiti was leaving the UK she used to leave stuff on the street with 'free to a good home' on it. It never worked with Aila-sisko though.'
What ? I'm not being mean to girlcats Äiti, just to Aila-sisko. Of course everyone knows you'd never do that Äiti. What do you mean, except maybe to an 'egotistical little ginger fluff' ? Pah pah pah.

  13. My mum once got me to help her drag a three-seater sofa from a skip when I was 11 years old from down the road up to our home. Yep - me and her pushed this sofa along the pavements in broad daylight! LOL!

She then cleaned it, re-upholstered it, covered it with lots of rugs and throws and it was her sofa for the next 20 years! LOL!

Yay for trash recycling! Someone's waste is another's treasure! People should be more like your fabulous mum and dad!!!

Lovely The Baby! YOU RULE!! Take care

  14. Most excellent trash pickin'! Thanks for telling us, the Baby!

  15. "Dumpster diving" is very popular! We know you can get amazing things by cruising around like that, and a lot of people do it. The mom loves to watch home design shows that feature segments with people who've done just that, and refinished things beautifully.

You have a lovely home and yard, kudos to your humans for their finds and their hard work.

P.S. We didn't know your mom played the piano!

  16. I love it! The fact that mom and dad are reusing, reducing and recycling ~ it's a beautiful thing! And look at the end result ~ lovely!

  17. Re-cycling is wunnerful. You save the planet and save good stuff, all in one clever move. We LOVE your urn. xx

  18. Your yard is very beautiful. We love OPG (Other People's Garbage), too. One day my staff and her son were driving to an art fair and he was telling her he needed a kitchen sink. Guess what they found along the way? A kitchen sink!

  19. Wow, your garden is BEAUTIFUL!! BUt wouldn't that vase thing be better in the catio? Think of the fun that the kitties are being deprived of with that on the OTHER side of the screen!!

  20. nice urn.

and your first picture reminds me i have to learn a randy travis song on my guitar.

  21. Baby.. We approve this super urn-thingy! Our Mom has been known to collect trash and make it a treasure. She is a great recycler, too.

Are you helping your Daddy organize his tapes?

    Happy Thursday to you all,
    ~ The Bunch

  22. OMG, *whispers* our mom does that too. At least she got some cool stuff for us this way.
We hope you thoroughly enjoyed the holidays and wish you the very best for 2012!

  23. You have the most beautiful yard ever. Your peeps do a fantastic job of keeping it up and decorating. Thanks so much for giving us the tour.

  24. BOL When my Mom was at school she and her roommate trash picked a desk for her roommate and died laughing as they tried to carry it up the stairs to their apartment. Mom later sold it on kijiji for 30bucks, best garbage pick ever.

Yours looks very nice in the front yard.

  25. The urn looks great what a find. Mommy is very appreciative of your parents skills.

    ReplyDelete
  26. One never knows what they will find in the trash. We have people regularly visit our dumpsters at the apartment complex. I thought the urn looked just right for a cat hidey-hole. Of course, we know you kitties have so few...

  27. Great post!!!!!!!!
    So beautiful house!

  28. MOL - that is a GREAT prize.... our grandpa does this sometimes. :)

  29. We admire your landscaping, Daddy did a great job once again!
Around our neighborhood people will leave it on the curbside with a "free" sign on it and it's usually gone by the next day. Once mom was taking her walk on trash day and there on the top of a trash bin was an old mirrored Miller High Life sign. It's still in the basement on the wall by the pool table 18 years later!

  30. Well, for a household that admits to putting the shabby in shabby chic, the front yard looks rather nifty! That pot certainly urned it's place ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. This looks beautiful. We call it re-purposing and do it all the time ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Maybe your Mommy and Daddy could be on American Pickers?

Meanwhile, I bet you could get INSIDE that thing easy. I double-DARE you!

    ReplyDelete
  33. That was a great find! Our mommy is too chicken to trash pick so she would have missed a find like that. The trash comes twice a week for our Grandma in Las Vegas so your Mommy would have lots of opportunities to find treasures!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Five stars to your mom for "trash-picking". It's a special talent.

You need to pitch the idea to A&E as a new reality show. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's quite the find by your Mommy! And your Daddy is talented enough to make someone's "trash" into a nice showpiece in your garden.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Urn you glad they didn't make a litter box out of it?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thats a brilliant bit of throw away and looks great in your garden. When mum lived in Germany with thhe army there used to be a put out your unwanted item day about four times a year, they put out furniture and lots of good stuff, everyone went round looking what the would like. Mum once got a arm chair and the lady came out with spare material. All good stuff.. Hugs GJ xx

  38. Wow! Your folks are so artistic! And what a find! There's absolutely no shame in garbage-picking. The old adage "one man's trash is another man's treasure" is certainly true in this case.

And to find something so beautiful and to be able to recycle it, too, is beyond exciting!

    Well done!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Baby, it's not 'garbage picking'... It's call 'recycling' as your secretary stated. That Woman does the same thing in our neighborhood. It's quite embarassing, we have many pieces of 'cast off' wrought iron work that's in our yard. I like them on accounta they allow the starflowerthingies to grow up them & bring the HUMMERS right DOWN to where I can WATCH THEM CLOSELY!

  42. Hey, one's man trash is another man's treasure! That urn was an excellent find! We can't believe someone threw it out! Your daddy did good with the yard too.

  43. HIGHPAW on the recycling (aren't humans FUNNY???)
Alie's still mooning over your catio, BTW (MOL!)

  44. Recycling is good!
Your Mom has a great eye and your Daddy has a great hand(to be able to work magic with all the manly yard stuff)

  45. The urn looks lovely in the garden. It is lucky that your mum rescued it because it would have been a shame if it got smashed up at the tip.

  46. Fabulous score! Mommy is jealous! But if it was here, it would be full of snow!

  47. Your house and yard are fantastic. Good job. When I first saw the tilted vase, my midwestern mentality thought what about all the rain it will collect and the mosquitoes that will breed in it. Then, I came to my senses.

Friends of ours recently moved to northern Las Vegas and are still trying to get used to picking dog poop off of rocks. The dogs are still trying to get used to the rocks, too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Very nice, your Dad did a great job in the yard, and Mom found an awesome urn.

Too cold here in the frozen north for checking the trash and now the snow is too deep!

  49. It's just beautiful! Tell your Dad NICE JOB : )

  50. that is BEYOND unique and you know what? It WORKS!!!

I did the same thing a few years ago. I saw a perfectly good cabinet on the side of the road and I took it!

Today it is the "home" of some of my cookbooks and I just love it!

    ReplyDelete
  51. That is a great find! There is never anything good in the trash around here, plus it rains so much that everything gets soggy.

    P.S. Your yard is beautiful!
