Kitties!
A birdy showed up in our front yard.
Mommy thinks it was a female Southwestern Flycatcher, which is an endangered species. There is a big wash just a mile north of our house (it drains the entire Las Vegas valley into Lake Mead) which hosts a huge riparian habitat--something you don't imagine in an area with only four inches or less of rainfall a year.
We see a lot of mouth-watering interesting migratory birds!
She perched on the bench for a while, showing off her yellow belly...
...when all of a sudden she figured out that Daddy was taking her photo!
So she gave Daddy Ye Olde Stink Eye...
...and took off.
Pretty smart little snack, eh?
Happy Friday!

Let's face it guys, any bird that comes near you lot is endangered. But what a tasty looking little morsel it is. Pity it flew off. Don't let your mom tell any birdwatchers or you will be covered with twitchers.
ReplyDeleteNonsnack! zip!
ReplyDeleteThe Human is not much partial to birds (she thinks they're all, well, kind of Hitchcockian and all), but this little feathered friend is downright darling!
ReplyDeleteMe, I wonder how many calories in a half-dozen or so?
Neat fevver. We are starting to see the birdies on their way north.

A tasty morsel indeed. Pretty little bird though and great capture with the photo's.. Hugs GJ x
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about the I.D.! It reminds me a bit of the Eastern Phoebes that hang around our farm. They twitch their tail and are also flycatchers.
ReplyDeleteThat first comment cracked me up!!
Stink eye! That's cool that you saw such a rare bird. And it was smart enough to move on before becoming a snack, hee hee.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are amazing...or at least my mommy says so...um...but seeing that birdy butt taking off makes me sad. I would so love to give that birdie the bitey!
ReplyDeleteFantastic pictures!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty little bird - we hope you enjoyed meeting your visitor.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
I would LOVE to give birdy the bitey. I get taunted here all of the time with all of the snacks out there parading around on the other side of the window!!
ReplyDeleteWe'd love to bring her inside and play catch the birdie with her. Wonderful pictures, such delicate little details. The stink eye pic is great!
ReplyDeleteYour daddy sure is good with that flashy thingy to capture that birdie. M says we don't have that birdie up here.
ReplyDeleteMouth-watering temptation! Great shots. They'd make a nice framed triptych.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely little birdie and we're very glad your Daddy caught her!

ReplyDeleteHaha! Yep, that was definitely the stink eye!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little bird! Very neat to see rare ones. I just posted about some of the visitors we have had at our feeders lately. Its fun to watch!
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty and smart little snack, giving Ye Olde Stink Eye. Awesome pix.
ReplyDeleteWe see mostly purple finches, gold finches, robins, titmouses, nuthatches, cardinals, doves, an mockingbirds here. We like the goldfinches the best cuz they come to the thistle seed feeder right nearest the deck door.
ReplyDeleteThats our BEST Birdy TV.
Mmmm, a very tasty looking snack. She gives a good stink eye.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute bird.
