Kitties!
*mmph * gobble * gobble * chomp*
Sweet Pea here, enjoying an incredible new delicacy!
SWEET CORN!
Born and raised the Midwest, Mommy is a sweet corn snob. Living in Las Vegas it's been impossible to get good sweet corn since she and Daddy moved, 11 years ago. In fact, she sort of gave up. However, the new grocery store where she shops (Fresh-n-Easy) is almost like a farmer's market, packed with wonderful seasonal produce. And sweet corn is in season in California...so Mommy took a chance a bought a couple ears.
Kitties, sweet corn is DEE-LISH-US.
Salem: What is this green crap? |
Sweet Pea: Crap!?! This isn't crap! Back off, you Gustatory Goon. |
This stuff is fabulous. |
My darling sweet corn, where have you been all my life? |
Salem: She's crazypants. ::rolls eyes:: |
Mommy boiled and ate the inside part of the sweet corn, which I thought was totally weird. Although the butter and salt she put on it looked pretty nommy...and according to her it was Midwest Quality corn! I hope she buys more soon.
Oh, and I had a Most Excellent yak right afterwards.
Bonus!
Happy Thursday!
XX Sweet Pea (and Salem) XX
Oh! Corn! Me thinks yous guys is crazy! Now the butter would tempt mes!
ReplyDeleteKisses
Nellie
A big yak afterwards? SCORE!!! (our Mommy is a niblet lover, too) Happy Thursday, furriends. xoxo
ReplyDeleteNobody in OUR house eats the green parts of the corn, but they do love the yellow kernels. Reminds Mom that she looks forward to being home and getting some good local white corn (she thinks they call it Silver Queen).
ReplyDeleteSweet Pea - are you part goat?
ReplyDeleteAnd excuse me! There is no better corn than NJ Silver Queen. Ah-hem
Sweet Pea, we think that is Yakalicious too! Everyone knows vegables are good for you.
ReplyDeleteOh our person loves quality corn on the cob. Her folks came from a farm on Wisconsin and there is nothing better!
ReplyDeleteYaking? Boy, I'll bet that's the last time your mommy lets you have the green parts. My kitties have always liked chewing on the cob after we get done with munching the kernels off. Now, the sheep, that's a different story - they love the silk - when they hear The Shepherd cleaning an ear of corn, they all come running - it's nummers for them and they don't Yak it up! Ha ha. T.
ReplyDeleteYum - I wonder if they can be hunted in Finland.....
ReplyDeleteWe didn't know you could eat corn husks but we like to like the butter off our Mommy's corn! She's a Midwestener too!
ReplyDeleteWe have a Fresh and Easy not quite two miles from our house - my human is going to run over there tomorrow and get some sweet corn! I love corn on the cob with butter. Well, mostly I like the butter.
ReplyDeleteBaby,
ReplyDeleteBe careful with the corn leaves. I had to have 8 stitches in my pinky on my 8th birthday from a corn leaf. It was really sharp and you don't want to need stitches on your tongue! Ouchie!
Val
PS - leave it to an 8 year to figure out a way to get hurt on husking corn. Of course, I was playing in the corn field at the end of my street!
You should try the corn yourself--probably best without the butter and salt, though. I've seen pictures of kitties nomming corn on the cob!
ReplyDeleteTell your mommy we have great corn here too, but all year round! There's the famous highland 'milk' corn, where you can eat raw! Naturally sweet and absolutely juicy! Now see, you make me crave for some corn too .... MOMMY! Do you hear me?
ReplyDeletePedro
Mmmmm. Corms!
ReplyDeleteHi sweet Salem. That second shot? Well, the JLLs are looking mighty fine, darling.
sweet corn, salt, butter and a juicy yak! ... how can anyone ask for anything more?
ReplyDeleteInformation duly noted for my Las Vegas trips.
ReplyDeleteOur Mommy LOVES corn. Especially when topped with LOADS of butter and salt....mmmmmmm. Us? We just want the butter. Period.
ReplyDeleteWe eat the canned stuff with butter but we don't eat the fresh stuff - cause we're weird, ok? MOL!
ReplyDeleteHa! Love the yak part. We were going to suggest that the rest of the kitty clan steer clear of you for sometime afterward, given corn's possible unfortunate side effects. LOL. But since you yakked it up, that's not necessary. :-P
ReplyDeleteYa know, if you guys go all veggy on us, we will have to take "action"...
ReplyDeleteLOVE tha YAK part :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom is crazy about sweet corn too , she say´s she is going to buy some today and eat with butter and salt.
Oh Midwest Sweet Corn - there is nothing better. We love it.
ReplyDeletei'm a sweet corn on the cob snob too.
ReplyDeleteLovely Salem! You have to be adventurous like gorgeous Sweet Pea! Try new things - barf it all out later! LOL! Take care
ReplyDeletex
Tucker LOVES (raw) sweet corn too. I can remember when I was a girl, the farm cats on my grandma's farm would come running when we peeled fresh corn. They loved it too.
ReplyDeletehuh - haven't had any of that here. Mom is ok with sweet corn but was moaning that the only sweet cherries she can find in the store are from California - hello... we live in Ohio - where are the Michigan cherries???? stupid stores.... glad you enjoyed the corms....
ReplyDeletewe just fell about watching you eat that stuff! You really do love it too! We wish we could sniff it to see the attraction! Lovely post. Love Helen, Darcy and Bingley xxx
ReplyDeleteSome kitties really like sweet corn. We saw a you tube of a kitty once who got a quarter cob every day and absolutely devoured it. Completely.
ReplyDeleteDo you have to pick your teeth afterwards Sweet Pea?
I'm jealous. We haven't had fresh corn in EONS. I'd give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI hope it isn't wrong to simply say I LOVE this post..
ReplyDeletecause I do.
Cats like corn???!! That said, EMily is jonesing for my cashew butter on a daily basis, so I guess they like to surprise us. Yo, cats. The yellow stuff is better than the green stuff!
ReplyDeleteWe get GREAT sweet corn around here, usually in August.
Nhumy nhumy! I love corn!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow great your mom can get good sweet corn in the new grocery store! Sweet Pea, we can see you are enjoying it a lot!! I prefer the inside part like your mom though. Haha :-)
ReplyDeleteWe know what to eat now when we need an excellent yak!!
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Sweet Pea eating sweet corn...how apt. Have you heard of corn in a cup, Sweet Pea? Eating them off the cob is too much trouble. I like mine with butter and salt. yummm..... Purrr...meow!
ReplyDeleteMOL what a unique way to get the silk out of corn!! Who knew kitties could be such good helpers.
ReplyDeleteSweet corn is the best!!
Hugs Madi

ReplyDeleteMoosey likes lettuce ... maybe he's like to sample some corn this summer. :)
Wowwee! Sweet corn is fabulous! I had no idea cats would eat the greens off it! The yak... that doesnt surprise me, MOL. Bonus! Just think if she had shared with everyone, mega-yak!
ReplyDeleteWell the yak made it all worthwhile!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried sweet corn Sweet Pea, but if you say it is good, then it must be.
ReplyDeletePurrs Flynn
Pee-Ess
It can't be as sweet as you though.
Mum will buy that stuff when the local corn starts to mature. We are not into that stuff, but mum loves the insides stuff too.
ReplyDeletethere is nothin' like summer sweet corn! I grew up in the Midwest too (and am still there!) and remember taking rides in the "country" with my parents and they would stop at the TONS of roadside farmer's stands and buy it fresh from the crop!!! Super good!! (but no yakking!! lol)
ReplyDeleteWe've never tried corn like that! Did you know our mom buys that corn and here in the Midwest you can take all that outside stuff off and leave it at the grocery store. So we never even see the outside stuff.
ReplyDeleteTW is drooling just thinking of corn with butter. She leaves the salt off tho. She never realized a cat would like it altho we do have corn in our dry kibble.
ReplyDeleteoh guys!! THINK of the CARBS!!! ya gotta get off that stuff...soon!!! ...meows at Mom..."can I have some corn..."
ReplyDeleteJust had some white corn on the cob a couple days ago. Very sweet and yummy. Lucy, our dog, cleans the ears afterwards, but I think I'll just put the husks in the trash.
ReplyDeleteWe are drooling in anticipation. Mmm and little butter, yum!
ReplyDeleteSome of us love to eat the inside part of the corn. We have never tried the outside.. a new idea for us!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you all (we are a day late reading blogs.. Mom is such a slacker).
