Sunday with a Frazzled Sheebie

Friends & Kitties!

Whew...is it Sunday already?

I've been busy, so this is gonna be a short one.  I got up at 0230 Tuesday morning to work half a grave shift and Wednesday I attended a seminar for work.  Thank goodness for overtime pay.

Thursday I visited the unbelievably adorable Quill--man is it HARD to photograph a tiny kitten directly converting mass to energy!  But I did get some good ones--AND, I got to love on him for a tiny bit, once he decided I wasn't all weird and stuff.
A less-than-successful kitten action photo!
Thursday night we got a phone call from an former City of Elgin co-worker who was unexpectedly (for us)  in town, so we drove down to the strip to pick up Devan and his wife for a tour of our house, etc.  They brought us a wonderful Indian snack, chivda!  I am going to master making this, it is sooooo good.  Devan always shared his lunch with me and Scott and I don't think he ever had something I didn't enjoy.

Friday, it was back to work, and baking in the evening. We've been swimming at a friend's house a few times a week so I made brownies in exchange.  This recipe is killer.

Trink's Fudge Brownies

2 ounces baker's chocolate
1/2 Cup butter
1 Cup sugar
1/2 Cup chopped walnuts
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 Cup flour

Melt chocolate and butter over low heat in a saucepan.  Stir in sugar, walnuts, and vanilla.  Lightly whisk eggs and blend in.  Stir in flour.  (Don't stir too much or the brownies will be stiff.)
Transfer to a greased 8x8 pan, and bake 25-30 minutes at 350F, until a finger pressed on top leaves an impression.  Let cool.

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
(of course there's frosting!)

1 ounce baker's chocolate, melted
3 TBS room temperature butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Cup-plus confectioner's sugar
a little milk

Combine melted chocolate, butter, and vanilla. (I use a hand electric mixer) Add the confectioner's sugar a little at a time, adding a few drops of milk when the mixture gets too stiff.  Spread on partially cooled brownies.  Lick bowl and beaters!

Um. I have no picture to share as they are All Gone...

Next week I'll have lots of photos, Scott's been busy again, and the park (across the street from us) is beginning to take shape!

Here's a hint...

Happy Sunday!

Okay, Quill is almost as cute as Miss Madie Mittens. I haven't huffed her yet, though. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know.

  6. Hmph. I don't know about these recipes - they don't look like the kind of thing you could share with the cats.

I bet Quill was fun. I also bet he wouldn't be impressed by brownies or chivda either.

  7. If you've never had plumbago, you're going to love it. It's a beautiful plant. I used it to line my driveway when I lived in Boise. And it's very easy to care for. You just cut it back to the ground every year and then let it go.
