Thankful Thursday

Kitties!

The Mommy here.
Fifteen years ago, at about this time of year, Miss KonaKitty sauntered into our lives as a teeny tiny kitten.  Her Mama was a feral kitty living in the brush on the river bank by our house and her Papa was Spooky, our barn cat--we had just adopted him from a neighbor and he wasn't neutered yet.  For some reason her Mama abandoned her beneath one of our outbuildings and the poor mite screamed bloody murder for an entire (sleepless) night and into the next day before we could locate her...and despite our best efforts we couldn't get to her, it was Spooky who finally coaxed her out of hiding.

She was a shy wee feral thing who hid in my sock drawer more than once--we thought she'd escaped and it took me nearly a week to figure out where she was disappearing to.

She's old and bony, but still full of piss and vinegar--none of The Horde dare cross swords with Kona, and when she's in the mood she loves a game of Feather Under the Play Mat.  I've always been her person, and lately she's been seeking me out every evening for couch cuddling.  I treasure this time; I know that as scrappy as she is, she's slowing down.

I'm very thankful that Spooky had one last fling!
I love you, my sweet little girl.

Happy Thursday!

  2. A lovely post - sometimes those preneutered love sessions are not a disaster! Every moment is precious - Äiti commands me to ask you give the lovely Kona scritches from her.

  3. she is quite beautiful! I am thankful for this post. Working with three little fraidy cats, often I forget that they almost always come around when they don't turn around after 24 hours.. Yes yes, I know I'm impatient :)

  4. Ah! Just like my Penelope. The cold this fall has really slowed her down and she her arthritis from being abused as a baby is really bothering her. She seldom leaves her heating pad except to cuddle in bed.

  7. I have always looked up to Kona. In personality, she reminds me a little of what my human says the cat before me was like - nobody crossed her, but she was extremely loyal.
