Payback's a Finch

Kitties!

WARNING!!
Graphic photos below!
(No bluds, though)

There was Great Excitement Sunday morning!
Birdy revenge was had.

Mommy had just gotten out of the shower, getting ready for work, when she heard the "clickety-click-click-click" of a herd o'cats barreling through the cat flap, followed by lots and lots of low growling.  Nothing new.  But then, she thought "I don't recognize that growl", so she glanced into the bedroom, where Maui had a birdy clamped firmly between his jaws, and nearly all of us trying to take it away from him, or, at the very least, get a good sniff.

Maui didn't have any intention of sharing, and was trotting in circles--across the Catio, into the bedroom and through the house, out onto the Catio, etc etc in an effort to avoid us and consume his catch in peace.

And by this time "us" included Mommy.

Did we mention that Mommy was nekkid and dripping?
She was!

But that didn't deter her from chasing after the bloodthirsty kitty conga line.  Whipping a knot in her towel, she sprinted to the head of the line while screeching at Maui to drop the birdy.  Of course her caterwauling scared the bejeezus out of him and he broke into a gallop, heading for the bedroom--the doorway of which Daddy suddenly appeared and muzzily inquired what the $@!! was going on.

Bringing the action to a dead stop.

Daddy scooped up the birdy (which Maui finally dropped) and deposited him in the morgue* after a quick briefing from Mommy.
Total bummer.

However, since Mommy is every bit as sanguine as we are she decided to shoot a few "re-enactment" photos when she got home, giving us a second crack.

We are pleased to report that flash-freezing retains all the tasty qualities one expects in a birdy!

Scouty was particularly enamored.

Mommy had to shout and chase him all over the Catio to get him to drop it!
We bet the neighbors find us vastly entertaining.

Happy Monday!

  4. This is a wonderful post -let me see if I can set that picture of Scouty as wallpaper! We love the idea of the morgue (we have a squirrel tail in ours). Well caught Maui! Much respect.

  5. OMC! That is some excitement! Maui, you rock!

  6. the excitement! My cats would love a real bird to go after!! sadly, all we got is fake ones.

    ReplyDelete
  7. OMC, you kitties are so lucky! My human would have just thrown the dead birdie in the trash. No reenactment or anything. :-(

  8. Oh my great heavens! MOL! She froze and returned the bird for PICTUERS?!! Now that's a dedicated blogger!! Kitties, your mommy truly is crazypants! Well, when she's wearing them I suppose.. Please tell me she was during the re-enactment.. no need to be that true to the original event, right?

  9. Oh cool! The birdie did not just show up on your tv, but in your catio.

  12. How the heck did a bird get in the catio? That is some talent!

    ReplyDelete
  13. oh man... if I was your mom I'd have died....

Sorry she ruined your fun though..

  14. OMC, being fresh out of the shower, chasing a "bloodthirsty kitty conga line" is something that only cat people would laugh at instead of being horrified of. That's quite an reenactment you did. Your parents are the BEST to let you have the bird a second time.

  15. OMC we're MOL!! We've captured a couple of birdies in the house. Once Daddy was running around in his undies chasing the bird and finally got it outside only to have the porch light turn on and show him standing there in his undies!!

We want to get into your freezer!!!

  18. What a great Mom you guys have.
Every now and again we get a visitor sneaking in for a snack who becomes the snack. MOL.
    Great Monday fun!

  19. I would like Maui to confirm it was your mom's caterwauling that caused him to panic and not her nekkidness.

  20. Reading this out loud to Kitty Daddy and laughing out loud!!! Killer Kitty Conga Line! Bird re-enactment! Oh this just made my day!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hahaha! My Mommeh would probably do the re-enactment too!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh my goodness, what a terrific way to start out the new week!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was wondering how you got photos when you were nekkid.. :) reenactment, how clever.. although I am a little surprised that someone in the bunch didn't just eat the birdie.. fresh or frozen :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. "Bloodthirsty conga line"...LOL! Your mom rocks. This was so funny!

    ReplyDelete
  25. We had a reenactment photo session with Mabel the mouse last year. Gloman was out of town otherwise I'm sure he would have put a stop to it.

...birdcicles, huh? You could box those babies up and go into business!

  26. how exciting! you kitties need to run under the bed...right in the middle and the peeps can't get to you...then you can enjoy your snack in (relative) peace :D When we were allowed outside, we had similar scenarios with lizards. Good times, good times!

  27. OMC, I caught a mousie (infant size) recently and Mom never thought of flash freezing him. You guys are SO LUCKY!!

  28. Gandalf is the mighty bird hunter here at the Swamp. The Eastern Bluebirds must be especially stoopid as he never seems to catch anything else. Cardinals, blackbirds, bluejays.. all safe.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What excitement! We're pretty jealous that you not only have a catio but you have a freezer full of frozen crittercicles! Sheesh!

PeeS: Scouty, we love that last photo of you in your Mancatly hunter mode!

  30. I have to apologise for my mum. She laughed until she cried. I told her that catching that tasty morsel was very serious business and a re-enactment made it doubly exciting. I have told her that she has to flash freeze all my catches that I don't eat at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  31. We are so sad your daddy didn't get a video of all of this!

Your mommy freezes your catches and re-creates scenes for the CB. We're impressed, but you poor kitties must be terribly confused by that :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. Poor birdy! :o( I used to have a cat that would deposit birds, lizards and mice on my doorstep. She never ever ate one that I know of. She just kept giving them to me. I guess it was presents.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Okay, we have to ask. What does your Mommy and Daddy plan to do with all those presents in the freezer? Bake a cake for Christmas?

    ReplyDelete
  34. MOL, too funny. Bet that was hysterical seeing Mommy running nekked through the house chasing many cats with bird. Nice try Mom. Hope all of you have a great day.

    ReplyDelete
  35. hahahahaha we loved it especially the part about the recreation!

Wishing you a very memorable Memorial Day!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Did the bird mind being exhumed from its frosty grave for a re-enactment? I bet it wasn't in the original contract!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mommy especially loved every word here. Me, you kitties were right as rain and at least you got it at the end of the day so to speak.

pee ess. Mom is really hoping a mini peep will arrive within a year maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  38. How exciting!! I think you need more reenactments until you all get to hold the bird in your mouth. Priceless photos.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow - your freezer sounds great! Love that last shot!!!

Happy Memorial Day (hope it is a quieter one!)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow! Fierce hunters, nekkid women and efurrything! Bet the neighbours are selling tickets! We love that last shot and will feature you on our page https://www.facebook.com/KatzTales in about 10 hours. Meow!

  41. Goodness, gracious that was a lot of excitement. You are awfully lucky that your mom is not as mean as ours, who immediately removes any birdy we may catch and bring home. But then the last one was still alive and unhurt so we guess that was fair. She does understand that cats will be cats, but does get a little upset with us when we kill a male cardinal. They are our state bird after all. The photo of Scouty is priceless. 42. Oh my goodness, what an excitement! Kitties in hunting mood and nekkid woman,...must have been quite a scene!

    ReplyDelete
  43. OH MY CATS..,BRAVO AT YOUR GROUP SKILLS...SCOUTY NOW WE KNOW HOW YOU GOT YOUR NAME. HUGS
    MADI YOUR BFFF

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh my birdie, this was too close for comfort. Our fledglings are flying the coop and Odin caught two today. Luckily I can shriek like a banshee and he dropped them. To be continued all week I suspect!

    ReplyDelete
  45. What an amazing and fun post. We could not believe all these wonderful pictures and what a story...sure kept us glued to the monitor reading every word awaiting the outcome. Gotta tell you though the whole time we were thinking about your mom running around nakkid and wondering if there were neighbors getting a birds eye view of all the action. lol Hugs and nose kisses

  46. OMC you caughted a birdy! How pawsome is that?

Your mom is pawsome too - our mom would never be that cool to lets you have it again. Does she keep them in the morgue so you can play with them again another day? Now that would be great!

Mom is still laughing at the kitty conga line, with the nekkid lady butting in, MOL!

  47. Wow! I am so jealous! I too caught a delishous little birdie who really, REALLY enjoyed being my play toy, right up until teh time Mrs. Whatsername smacked my rear end and made me drop it and the birdie flew off, terrifiied, of course, of my stupid and rude human. The Woman ruined both our days, really. I will remind her of teh freezer option, next time.

btw - "bloodthirsty kitty conga line" was the best line we have read in a while. maybe just because it includes the accompanying visual of damp and nekkid shrieking human, but still. That is classic Literature.

  48. You sure do lead an exciting life in your catio.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sounds like you lead a really excitin' life. Wow! And you even get your mom in on the act. Double wow! purrs

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love how everybody had to have a turn carrying that poor birdie around. Criminy. Would they actually eat it though? Mine just like the hunt--they are too well fed to actually eat what they find.

    ReplyDelete
  51. What an exciting day for the gang! The dialog left me with visuals I won't soon forget - no matter how hard I try. But, we do love your crazypants mom.

Barb and the G's bluebirds must be down there with chipmunks on the intelligence scale. My daughter's cat killed one while it, the cat, was tethered to a 20' leash in the back yard for some outdoor time. How stupid is that?

    ReplyDelete
  52. What a catch! Did you mom flap her arms? The woman here does a lot of arm flapping when we catch something.

We're curious, what do you do with them after you put them in the freezer?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow! I am pretty sure the phrase "bloodthirsty kitty conga line" is now forever ingrained in my brain. What excitement.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh my stars! Well I shouldn't be laughing but I kind of am. Poor birdie!!
    xo Catherine

    ReplyDelete
  55. Maui is such a fierce hunter!!! But why did the 'rents take your bird? If was silly enough to get caught, then you cats should have had a reward.

For the record, our mom said she would have taken the bird away from us too!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Such wild hunting eyes and stalking poses!
We just bet the neighbors find youse guys entertaining specially if mommy runs around like a nude-nik!
"Get the binoculars Harold, she's at it again!" Heh Heh!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thank goodness they were re-enactment photos. We had thoughts of her, nekked, dripping AND taking pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Whoa tons of exciting things go on at your house!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Our mama says she is adding blood thirsty kitty conga line to her vocabulary to use next time we get a birdie/mouse. She will add it after she stops rolling on the floor laughing.

If you guys really want to make things exciting at your house gently catch a birdie, take in the house and let it go. It makes the humans crazy!

    Purrs,
Cindi Lou & The Kitty Krew

  60. We normally get to keep what we catch. Iffen we dont eat it, he just tosses it over the fence. Congrats on getting a 2nd time with the birdie!

    ReplyDelete
  61. OMC! That must have been something! I mean, especially seeing the human naked running after you ;-)
