Mister Crazypants is a Big Softie

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

My husband Scott is one of the world's most sensitive people--truly.  Last Saturday while running to the Post Office to mail a large donation of cassette tapes to a home for mentally handicapped adults he noticed a pigeon hunched over on the centerline of a busy street; and even though he told himself he'd take a different way home he couldn't, and of course the poor bird was still there, in such bad shape it calmly let Scott pick it up and cradle it against his chest on the trip home.

Now, we have a friend who does bird rescue and I put in a call to her right away, but had to leave a message...and in the meanwhile Scott was a wreck, worrying and waiting.  So I did a search on line and found on Facebook (of all places) the phone number of a local lady who did rescue who was home and she said bring it over right away.  Not more than five minutes after Scott left (of course) our friend called back, and--small world--she knew the lady who Scott was headed to see!  Turns out they both volunteer at a local bird sanctuary.

The pigeon has a broken lower bill (probably struck by a car) and, unable to feed itself, was dehydrated and starving, not to mention in pain--that's why it was so passive.  It's being tube fed and a week later is doing much better.  According to Mary (the rescuer) the beak will grow out whole, it'll just take time.

It is so true, you might not be able to save the whole world, but you can save one animal's world.

Happy Sunday!

  10. You know what? 99% of people would have left the bird, thinking, well, it's just a pigeon. Kudos to Scott, he's definitely a hero to that poor bird.

  29. Hubby Scott really is a softy. Our Dad is one as well. He has saved birds, bunnies and dogs. Many years before any of us were born, the peeps raised a Robin they named Edith (for Edith Bunker) after a dog got it and broke its leg. If would sit on top of the kitchen cabinets and dive bomb any people who came over. Mom says it was pretty funny.
