Kitties!
It's Week Three of the Baby Hummer Story!
As you can see, the nestlings have gotten a lot bigger, and they have some pinfeathers already. Baby #2 hatched out the day after the first one, so they are nine and ten days old now. They don't seem to peep at all, but as you can see they sure can poop! Missus Hummer has been busy busy busy feeding her babies, she's at the feeder elebenty billion times a day, filling up, plus our Salvia is in bloom and she loves the nectar from those flowers. A couple readers have asked what type of hummers these are and Mommy is pretty sure they are Anna's Hummingbirds, but since the females are rather drab it's hard to tell for sure; and like Mommy wrote a pal the males (easier to identify) don't stick around, those faithless wretches, MOL.
Stay tuned for next Feathered Friday!
Happy Friday!

What fun having them there where you can watch them grow! We didn't know that male hummingbirds don't stick around like some other birds do. Poor, single hummingbird Mom! We are glad she has your feeder nearby so she doesn't have to forage too far.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to watch these little baby birds grow up! You are right...that is a lot of bird poop for such little birds. LOL!

ReplyDeleteWow, we never realized that baby hummers were such prolific poopers! We allus figured that sugar was such a pure food that there wouldnt be much in the way of "excess".
ReplyDeleteVery exciting!
ReplyDeleteWe agree with Barb, it always seems to be about the poop.
That is exciting to watch them. You only need another 11 now for a picnic.
ReplyDeleteWe missed it! Mom & Dad were gone to the desert and we missed the hatching!Welcome to the world little morsels....errr...birdies!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! And we've never seen that variety of hummer before. We pretty much only have the red-throated hummer around here.
