Sunday with Sheebie

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

So, I and my coworkers are surviving the new computer interface installation at work.  Truthfully, there's no real big differences--a couple bad but mostly good--and one of the nicer features are the more descriptive alarms that pop up in the alarm queue.

My absolute favorite one so far is this:
Dose this not read "Whalem System Disabled" to you, or am I just crazypants?

I almost want to do naughty stuff at work just to see this alarm!

***

So, a few months ago I weaned myself off of Effexor, an antidepressant that had nasty side effects if I missed just one stupid dose, started Prozac, and attempted subsequently to wean myself off of that.  Well, it didn't go so good...but fortunately I recognized the signs of the imminent dark clouds before it got too bad and started back up on my medicine.  It was kinda hairy for a few weeks before it kicked in but I'm pleased to report I'm feeling much more like myself these days, and since Prozac has a very long half-life if I miss a pill I'm not sweating and shaking and wishing to die.  (Working shifts it's easy to forget to take my meds at the correct time.)

Scott was scheduled to have cortisone shots in his lumbar spine for his sciatica next week, but his regimen of yoga and bike riding has been so effective he called and canceled the procedure!  Plus, his A1C number went down 3 points, and for the first time in years his cholesterol numbers are good.  Since we moved here to Las Vegas he's lost over one hundred pounds--I saw a photo of him from 1999 and was floored--he's half the man he used to be.  He does more yoga than I do!  Speaking of which, last Wednesday I did my first back-bend in probably 40 years...felt pretty dang good.  So does my knee--it's been eleven months since I busted my knee cap--and aside from some tightness in the ligaments it's back to what it used to be.

Our Nekkid Kats seem to be enjoying their noodity immensely.  Sweet Pea was initially a wee tad freaked out but once she realized her haircut made for a more efficient scratch-to-skin ratio she's been quite happy and soliciting rubbins at every opportunity.  KonaKitty, being so old and skinny has been on the chilly side (it's only in the 80's outside) but she has her heated cat cup and of course, cuddling to keep her warm.  It's got to be a relief to be rid of all the matted fur on her flanks, and soon it'll be past the century mark on the thermometer and she'll snooze her days away out on the Catio, baking.  Maui and John are dense as bricks oblivious to their furless state!  Typical mencats...

I will email out a schedule for Catio tours this week for those of you who requested one, and it looks like the meet-n-greet with GJ's Mum and Dad will be Friday evening by the upper pool at the Westin hotel...exact time TBA.  Carol and I had a wonderful hour-long chat last Sunday (thank you T-mobile for the free call) and she is the most fun and animated person...I can't wait to meet up in person, as well as all the other bloggers!  I promise to take lots of photos and maybe some videos, too.

We have another week from hell coming up at home with the majority of the inside of the house being in an uproar from the painters.  I chose a slightly different wall color from the warm browns to a grayer putty shade, and we're going all one color in the great room/kitchen, for now.  I want to do something with the kitchen cabinets this summer (paint, reface?) and then I might do the half wall and pot shelf in an accent color.  We'll see.  The best part is when this week is over I have three weeks vacation coming up!  I'm looking forward to it very much.

I've slowly been getting around to visiting most of you this weekend, but if you don't see the Katnip Lounge in the comments please don't be sad...we're still reading!

Happy Sunday!

  5. About yer comment on our blog, we arent sure which is a better trade. Snappin turtle an sidewinder might be about the same. We avoid most snakes more than turtles.

  7. Oh how we wish we could send Äiti to meet you and the horde...... Maybe one day. It all sounds good - no disabled Whalems, nekkid kitties enjoying faux-sphynx status and a happy Mom. And Daddy of course.

    Äiti has just read an 'amazing' book which she should email you about. Luckily it is not a cat behaviour tome, but human self-help-
    Have a great weekend and we hope there will be a feline contribution to the paint job.

  10. WTG Scott on the healthier weight and great A1C number! Maybe I need yoga...

    Don't freak when mny blog pops up as private. I haven't felt like writing a blog. More to the point, I feel like doing other stuff! So one day last week when I sat down to write a post I decided instrad to make it private and give it a vacation. Or retirement.

    Oh, and I called my vet to ask about Grayson shaved... not for $100, and possibly an additional $60 for sedation. No, thank you. Although there ARE 2 sets of clippers in the house that I use to buzz my friend Al's head every coupkle of weeks. hahahaha!

    Have a wonderful day!

  14. Paws up for the healthful effects of yoga and bike riding!

    It was very thoughtful of you to do all of your remodeling just in time for the visiting cat bloggers, but really, they just want to see the cats. :) The head peep can't WAIT to meet you. (And the kitties. And Scott... or is he going to be out riding a bike?)

  18. So glad to hear your meds are working out -- good news about the greater half-life on the Prozac!

    Congrats to Scott on the weight loss, and the subsequent health benefits.

    We're jealous of everyone who gets to tour the catio and meet Carol and Barrie (and YOU)! Have fun, and take lots of pictures, okay?

  20. I am so glad things are going well for you. Yay for Prozac! I've taken it for many years now and whenever I get myself weaned off I find I'm back in that deep hole so back on I go. It does have a nice half life so if I miss a dose I'm not crazy(well not TOO crazy). Love them nekked cats!
    hugs, Linda

  21. Things sound like they are going great at the Sheebie household!
    Oh when we read the alarm:
    AM = morning
    WH = White House
    ALM= alarm
    SYS= system
    DSABLD= disabled

    so we thought the white house morning alarm had been disabled.

    We too are jealous of all the fun to be had in Las Vegas at Blog Paws. We hope for lots of photos.

  26. Sounds like you're finding the balance. Shredded TP is small price to pay and I'm so looking forward to seeing you in purrson! I do the yoga pose, the frog for sciatica.

  27. What a whole lot of news and it all sounds good. That's what we like to hear, except the part about the 100 degree temps since Mom will be there in just about ten days now. She doesn't do well in the heat so probably won't leave the hotel except to come out and meet the Lounge bunch. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth & Calista Jo

  28. I wanna see the Catio!!! ME! I hope I can meet up with someone who will bring me since I’m coming with a—gasp—dog blogger. BTW, TW is a proofreader so she did NOT read Whalem. Heh heh.

  29. effexor is nasty. I tried it once, drove me up the wall.. my sugar cravings went out of control to the point where I was eating twinkies, and I hate twinkies..

    Have you ever read "The Mood Cure"? it is a really helpful book - at least it was to me..

    I am really bummed I'm not going to be there for a catio tour.. *sigh* Hopefully someone will video it so it will sorta be like being there..

  31. Lots of pawsome news, Trish! And it's super exciting about Scott's A1C numbers! It's been about a year & a half since I was diagnosed with diabetes and I found out last week my A1C was 5.5! Woo Hoo! I did it myself with diet and weight loss. I can't wait to meet you, see the Catio and have a great time!
