Kitties!
Grayce is back home with us.
Mommy put her ashes in a beautiful grey ceramic urn, and she's resting on the ladder shelf in the bedroom with some of The Other Cats Who Came Before.
They are looked over by Fuzzy, Daddy's first cat. Fuzz was an big, long-haired all white cat, and he was smart--except for the fact he liked car rides. He lived to be almost 19, and five of those years he had a daily insulin injection; The Royale Fuzz-Mon was a tough guy! Yup, so tough he let Kona nurse on him when she was a bebbeh...he loved kittens.
His ashes are in the flowered urn.
To the left of Fuzzy is Chuckles, the all white blue-eyed deaf boy that Daddy found in the parking lot of a post office one evening. He had some weird habits, mainly a predilection to HOWL when he couldn't see his peeps, and launching teapots. (at least five!) Chuck passed from renal failure--Mommy wishes that she had been blogging sooner--he probably could have lived quite a bit longer with what she knows now.
To the right of Fuzzy is Dust. Mommy has a hard time talking about him; he suffered heart failure (at the age of eight) when she was on vacation and the first thing she had to do when she got home was go to the vet...Dust was Mommy's Heart Cat and she firmly believes that Dust sent her Rupert to continue the love. They are so much alike in looks and temperament; down to the love for Mommy's hair when she's wet from the shower.
Below the three boys is Hooter. Hootie-P was given to us by an old girlfriend of Daddy's--they remained friends--she had a new dog and poor Hoots was terrified and living in the basement, so Daddy said we'd take her into the Illinois Horde. Hooter was perpetually hungry and she would eat anything...at dinner time there would be a thunderous rumble and there would be Hooter, sitting up like a meercat on her fat bottom, waiting for morsels. Hootie came to us quite old, and her last three years were spent being spoilt silly.
On the final shelf is Grayce.
Mommy is getting to be at peace with Grayce being gone...one thing that has made her loss easier to bear is the support of all of our friends in the blogosphere. We would like to thank each and every one of you for all your kind words and gestures--Mommy printed out her final post and all the comments for a keepsake.
We hope you don't mind hearing about Cats of the Past...Mommy says that this shelf is the only thing in the house she actually enjoys dusting because she gets to stop and spend time with them again, and remember the love.
Happy Friday!

What a lovely, heartfelt post. I, too, have one of my beloved Himalayan sweetheart sitting on a shelf, but with my Dad. He was a great cat lover and I got my cat loving sense from him. He would be proud to be sitting by Buddy. I miss them both.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! It's so lovely to hear the stories of the furry ones who have gone before. You honor them well with such a lovely memorial! I would love more such stories! Maybe with some old photos scanned in too!
ReplyDeleteWE are sending you cyber hugs.

ReplyDeleteI LOVED hearing about the cats who came before! My human does not bring their ashes home, just the memories.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. You have quite the collection there. I never ask for my cat's ashes...it's just too painful for me. Well...and sort of expensive. And I wouldn't know what to do with them. I thought about it with Grace, but passed on it at the last minute. Instead, I saved the petals from the rose the vet sent us after her passing, and under the Blood Moon, we sprinkled them out in the garden that she loved so much. Joe and I had a good cry and a sweet goodbye.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to remember everyone. You have many Who Have Gone Before, all obviously deeply loved. Your ladder shelf is a tribute to them all, with such beautiful mementos. BTW, our biped has that angel too, holding the cat...Somehow it comforts her; she likes to think that loving energy surrounds Annie and Chumley and keeps them safe. Purrs and peace.
ReplyDeleteThe memories of those who came before are very important. Your memorials are lovely.
ReplyDeletea nice place to remember all those special souls.
ReplyDeletewe have a shelf like that here too....those memories are important things
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you have a special tribute area. It is beautiful. While I have ashes for just Tucker (the rest are buried on my parent's property), I know what you mean about dusting. Every time I dust off his urn and statue, I remember our special boy. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteHugs and love from all of us. The happy memories will eventually make the heart smile.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to remember your cats who came before. I understand why you love to dust the shelves :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to remember the sweet loves of our lives. I will keep Charlie with me always, alive as long as possible and ashes when the time comes!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
I love the idea of cremation but we usually bury our loved ones when they pass. Kitty and Fred have roses planted on top of them. Kitty's rose is called 'Simply the Best ' and Fred's rose is called 'Remember', this way each year the lovely roses remind us of those two beauties.

ReplyDeleteLove hearing about those who came before. Sending hugs!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful, peaceful place. Scooby-Doo is near me on a shelf in the 4 season room, with 3 of the angel guardians, the standing one like you have and 2 sitting ones surrounding him.
ReplyDeleteScooby, not Scooby-Doo.
ReplyDeleteAuto correct gets it wrong every time.
How wonderful to have all your Rainbow Friends there with you! We have TOWCB, Ikkyu, in #1's bedroom also, but Sen-Chan and Yuu-Chan are buried in the garden, although we do have Kathleen Coy's wonderful portraits of them on the wall.
ReplyDeletePurrs,
The Chans
