Reminiscing

Kitties!

The Mommy here.

I was looking for a new desktop picture for my work computer and came across this one of our sweet Angel Grayce, and decided it was just purrfect for a Sunday Selfie; it made me smile.
The Horde and I sure miss our sillypants spitfire--but maybe not those claws so much--Grayce was never shy about using 'em--I seem to remember that in this moment she was threatening me to make sure this photo was impeccable!

You got that right Mommy! ~Grayce

Memorials

Kitties!

Grayce is back home with us.
Mommy put her ashes in a beautiful grey ceramic urn, and she's resting on the ladder shelf in the bedroom with some of The Other Cats Who Came Before.

They are looked over by Fuzzy, Daddy's first cat.  Fuzz was an big, long-haired all white cat, and he was smart--except for the fact he liked car rides.  He lived to be almost 19, and five of those years he had a daily insulin injection; The Royale Fuzz-Mon was a tough guy!  Yup, so tough he let Kona nurse on him when she was a bebbeh...he loved kittens.

His ashes are in the flowered urn.

To the left of Fuzzy is Chuckles, the all white blue-eyed deaf boy that Daddy found in the parking lot of a post office one evening.  He had some weird habits, mainly a predilection to HOWL when he couldn't see his peeps, and launching teapots. (at least five!)  Chuck passed from renal failure--Mommy wishes that she had been blogging sooner--he probably could have lived quite a bit longer with what she knows now.

To the right of Fuzzy is Dust.  Mommy has a hard time talking about him; he suffered heart failure (at the age of eight) when she was on vacation and the first thing she had to do when she got home was go to the vet...Dust was Mommy's Heart Cat and she firmly believes that Dust sent her Rupert to continue the love.  They are so much alike in looks and temperament; down to the love for Mommy's hair when she's wet from the shower.

Below the three boys is Hooter.  Hootie-P was given to us by an old girlfriend of Daddy's--they remained friends--she had a new dog and poor Hoots was terrified and living in the basement, so Daddy said we'd take her into the Illinois Horde.  Hooter was perpetually hungry and she would eat anything...at dinner time there would be a thunderous rumble and there would be Hooter, sitting up like a meercat on her fat bottom, waiting for morsels.  Hootie came to us quite old, and her last three years were spent being spoilt silly.

On the final shelf is Grayce.
Mommy is getting to be at peace with Grayce being gone...one thing that has made her loss easier to bear is the support of all of our friends in the blogosphere.  We would like to thank each and every one of you for all your kind words and gestures--Mommy printed out her final post and all the comments for a keepsake.

We hope you don't mind hearing about Cats of the Past...Mommy says that this shelf is the only thing in the house she actually enjoys dusting because she gets to stop and spend time with them again, and remember the love.

Happy Friday!

Sunday with Sheebie

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

I like to consider myself a hardened, crusty, cynical curmudgeon...and then my world gets rocked.  I should know better than to presume to understand myself.  I have been incredibly moved by the outpouring of love and compassion after the passing of my darling Grayce; you have restored my occasionally shaky faith in humanity, for which I am grateful.

Every comment and email has been treasured and appreciated, they have moved me to tears and helped me grieve.  If it were possible to wear out electrons like paper each missive would be transparent with use by now.

Tiny Grayce was a powerhouse cat, everykitty avoided her ire and mighty rapid-fire left hook.  She got her way in most everything--food, sleeping spots, laps.  The words "no" and "can't" didn't exist for her!  Her loss is keenly felt among the Horde--she was the Alpha female--and the hierarchy is shifting.  The spot to the left of my pillow is vacant, waiting to be filled, and the morning undercover cuddlebunny spot is open as well.  It is lonely in bed, even with three kitties, but I'm sure in time one of them will step in to fill the empty positions.  Rupert has been noticeably subdued; he and Grayce used to jockey for prime chesticle position and I think he's confused, wondering where his rival has gone.

Having the vet come to the house was such a kind and peaceful way to euthanize.  Scott and I agonized over the decision to let Grayce go, but it was time.  Her appetite had dropped off in the past week, and she was lethargic if we weren't paying her direct attention.  We had been tallying the good days against the bad ones and the bad days were dominating the calendar.  The vet was wonderful; she petted and cooed over Grayce with us, and made sure we were sure.  Grayce had one little pinprick for the sedative, and she was gone almost as soon as it took effect.    We stroked her and told her how much we loved her; and although I miss her with a searing pain I am so glad we let her go...her little body had had enough.

I don't hold any belief in an afterlife, but I'm content with what I have here and now, knowing that I was fortunate enough to have my life intersect with Grayce's beautiful, funny purrsonality.

Thank you all, once again, for your support.

Squishing Saturday

Kitties!

Grayce and May Ling here.

Mommy had to work a little unplanned overtime on her weekend (she volunteered--what a moron), so she took a teensy nap to recharge her batcatteries after her yoga class.

We helped.

Daddy took this photo to prove that sometimes, rarely, Mommy does relax.
Mostly when we can squash her into submission.

Happy Caturday!

Oh Cod, oh Cod, oh Cod...

Kitties!

Grizz and Grayce here...
NOT in our house!

Yes, we were quickly inserted stuffed flailing into our Prison Transport Units this afternoon and hauled off to the vet for check-ups.

One of us didn't mind, and one of us did; can you guess who was which?

Naturally, we sang The Song of Our People in the car:

Mommy here:  The Baby is doing great!  She is fat-n-sassy at 8 pounds 15 ounces, up from 7 pounds 4 ounces this time last year.  Her regimen of prednisolone every other day is working beautifully on her IBD.  The vet said her innards felt pliable and healthy again, and her teeth and weight are ideal.
Grayce is a different story, though.  She's down to just a smidge over 5 pounds and her diarrhea is now constant with occasional blood.  This past week she's been in the litter box more than out of it--and showing signs of being in pain.  She's starting on a liquid formulation of pred and meds to firm up her stools, and the vet is optimistic that this should help Grayce.  I sure hope so, the poor thing leaves poop marks almost everywhere she sits from her watery bowels.  It won't be a permanent cure, eventually her lymphoma will win but maybe we still can buy a little quality time together.  Grayce is still feisty and full joi de vie so all Scott and I can do is medicate and keep an eye on her, and consider every day a bonus...

And feed the both of them all the Gerber's and poached chicken they can hold--two jars and an entire breast a day!  Little pigs.

WHO ARE YOU CALLING "PIGS" MOMMY!!!!?????

Happy Thursday!

Hard at Work

Kitties!

Grayce here.
Daddy dyed up a batch of tea-towels which required some Kitty Kwality Kontrol.

And even though it's Caturday, I stepped up to the plate!
Our job is never done...

Amazing Grayce

Kitties!

Grayce here, on the freshly refurbished ESS.
We had completely denuded it of the old sisal covering, so Mommy spruced it up with some new rope and hot glue.

And CATNIP.

Which you cannot see, on account of I already ate it!
So, my Sunday Selfie is a bit on the stoned side, heh heh heh.

Happy Sunday!

Caturday on the Catio!

Kitties!

As promised, today we have for you a little video, starring many Kats on the Catio.

The videography is a little shaky--but since Mommy filmed it the day after the Monumental Puke Fest (2015) we're gonna let it slide...and she did manage to talk a teeny bit less, too, for which we award her one bonus point.

Speaking of whom, Mommy is back to normal whatever that is and thanks all of you for the sympathy, empathy, and well wishes.  She says it's nice to know that A) she's not alone in having a great barf story, and B) she has all of you to share it with.

ANYHOO...on to the movie!

or click HERE

Did you see any of your favorite Kats?

We sincerely hope to get around to all our pals this weekend and comment--we know we've been slack lately.  Doesn't mean we don't read--we do--rather that Mommy is lazy to the bone.

Happy Caturday!

Three in the Tree

Kitties!

In our continuing quest to remain warm* the indoor trees are experiencing an uptick in occupation, to wit:

ONE:  Grayce

TWO:  May Ling

THREE (and one half):  Salem

All together now!

Seriously, we hope all our pals in the Northern Hemisphere are keeping safe and warm.  We're purring for all the homeless peeps and animals out in the bitter weather, and we and wish every last one had a place to call home.

Happy Friday!

Sunday Solstice

Kitties!

Today is the Winter Solstice.
Soon, the long shadows will shorten as the days lengthen, and the Sun will rise high in the sky.

Soon, the stunning heat will return.
As will we...

We are having company over the holidays, so our posts will be sporadic until after the New Year.  We'll be around here and there--the Catmas Costumes have been spotted so we imagine there's some sort of Holiday Humiliation post brewing in Mommy's evil mind--wish us luck, avoiding that!

See you all again, SOON!

Happy Sunday!

The Party, Part the Third

Kitties!

We have a few remaining photos of the initial Archway Frenzy.
May Ling enjoyed the catnip...

...a nice cheek-groom, and then she went off to enjoy the pink spotted nip mousies dancing through the air.

Grayce was next up for a nip and a scratch.

The Baby was waiting for another go at the arch...

...but Grayce said possession is 9/10 of the law, and nokitty here dares to mess with her--she's a mean nip-head.  (Which is why The Baby went to sit on the box.)
Mommy got bored, waiting futilely for Grayce to move along, and finally put the camera away, thank Cod.  Way to take one for the team, Grayce!
Or maybe it was simply a case of too much nip?

Happy Thursday!

Mystery Monday

Kitties!

Grayce and Mystery Cat here, having fun with a box and tissue paper.
There's a kitty in the box and I''m wondering who it might be...

::rustle rustle rustle::

It's Bib-inna-Box!

*whew*
I'm so relieved it's not that Ravenous Johnson--he likes to chomp on gray cats too.

The Baby agrees with me--it's hard being so delicious.

I SO Did Not Vogue

Kitties!

Grayce here.
When I left you yesterday, I was busily glaring at avoiding Mommy.

It was time to head for higher ground!

::action shot::

I figured that the second level in the cat tree would be safe from prying eyes...

...wrongly, as it turns out..  Mommy is taller than I thought!
Rats.

Oh well, just wait until tomorrow to see who got pawpurrazzi'd next!
It's a good one.

Happy Tuesday!

Monday's Tale

Kitties!

Grayce here.
I was running around like a madcat after I pooped and hopped up here on top of the tunnel for a little breather.

Mommy said, "Stay right there, Grayce, the light is so pretty on your fur".

So I did.

But that doesn't mean I posed for her...

Oh, no.  I made her work for every frame!

So most of them are of my tail...well, almost all of them...

To Be Continued...

Happy Monday!

Sunday with my Sister

Kitties!

Tiny J here.

I'm all curled up in a tidy ball and do you know why?

Because my bitey sister Grayce is on the sofa with me!

She bears watching.
Especially since my thick protective pelt is gone--Grayce could sink her fangs into my sensitive, shaven hiney any minute, for no reason whatsoever!

*pshaw*
Reasons?  Who needs reasons?  That's right--I bite for fun!
TJ better sleep with one eye open...

Happy Sunday!
