Kitties!
Salem here.
First off, let me say that everything is fine now, 100% all better...but it's been a wild ride around here health-wise the past couple of weeks.
Remember when I had to go to the vet with my blocked *whispers* anal glands? Well, there was more to the story.
Let's start at the beginning, shall we?
About three weeks ago there was an outbreak of the Prodigious Vomits--we were all yakking, all the time, everywhere. Now, this coincided with a cold snap and a massive shed so Mommy put it down to hairballs, as historically this has been the case. But this went on and On and ON...for a week...and then stopped. Hallelujah.
A day or two later the Pernicious Squirts began.
Kitties, it was awful!!! Some of us couldn't get to the box quickly enough and Mommy got to test her gag reflex more than once. I was one of the worst affected, and Mommy thinks this is ultimately what irritated my "behindal" region into flaring up.
Thinking back, Mommy remembers getting up one morning a month ago and one of our food dishes had been completely untouched--which is unusual because we are little pigs. She didn't think much of it and just left the dish down, and by the end of the day it was eaten. Talking it over with Daddy he said that he had to toss a can of food that had a broken seal on it, and they think we must have been fed a bad can of food! (We have some canned food delivered and one box came pretty banged up and odds are it contained the culprit.) They felt terrible about it, and let me tell you they'll listen for a "pop" every single time they open a can from now until forever.
But if the barfs and the browns weren't bad enough, the worst was yet to come: Mommy put us on STARVATION RATIONS for 48 hours to let our tummies settle down! We got only half the amount of normal wet food, a few measly Catio Chips (per kitteh) and a paltry serving of hand-shredded rotisserie chicken. Oh, and Gerber's. It was Pure Torture.
Moral of the story--have your peeps check every can and listen for the hiss when they pop the top! Because half-rations are No Fun.
Happy Monday!

What an awful thing to happen! I'm glad that everyone is on the mend. And I do listen for that pop - I've had some cans go bad on me - stinky! I used one of your tie-dyed bags for my gift bag at Spinner guild yesterday. It was one of the first ones to go, and stolen several times :-) T.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope you're all feeling better. I'm gonna tell TW to make sure an hears that hiss.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! We're gonna make sure the mom always hears the pop. We don't wanna go through this...though getting Gerbers isn't too bad. Glad you're all feeling better now.
ReplyDeleteYou poor little underfed darling! I think you should get some Gerber's every night now, just to make up for the trauma. It's only fair.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are all better now! My human is pretty good about checking that the cat food cans are in good condition - she even avoids any dents, even if the seal looks like it is still good!
ReplyDeleteWe could barely read this all the way through, it was so horrifying on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteOh you poor things. How PERFECTLY AWFUL!
ReplyDeletePurrs,
The Chans
Oh, gees. One sick kitty is bad enough...but a whole bunch??! Yikes. Sounds like a messy clean-up in aisle 2! Yikes. I am glad you are all better now. Scary about the bad food.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! The lady never listens for a hiss. She wants to learn from your horrible experience. We are glad that all is well now. Your poor tummies! All I can think of is "half rations". Shudder!
ReplyDeleteGood advise. I think that's what it was, too. Poor babies.
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Ceiling Cat! How glad we are that everyone made it through this ordeal.
ReplyDeleteglad things are settling down... we will heed to that lesson.
ReplyDeleteOh, icky! We're glad that's over!
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad things are all so much better dear Salem, and Mom thinks sister Boo may have to go have those anal glands expressed again very soon. Pssstt don't tell her, oK?
ReplyDeleteMass squittiness is not pretty, as we can confirm. The air does not smell sweet. We are glad all is well and shall ensure that we listen out for the pops too, so the plops are kept as they should be.
ReplyDeleteUrgh!!!!! I'm so glad that you're better now! Sounds like a nightmare. I confess that I haven't been paying special attention to the cans, and I do sometimes feed dent cans. I'll be more careful now. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I will be extra careful to hear the pop of the can also! Poor Charlie can't take much more with his stomach these days anyway...age isn't always kind to us is it! Glad all are on the mend!
ReplyDeleteewwww - but glad you are all back to 100%
ReplyDeleteWhat a nightmare! Half rations???? Glad you are all better xx

ReplyDeleteOh no, that was awful for all of you, and your mum too. I hope you are all fighting fit again.
ReplyDeleteWe are happy that things worked out well and the kitties are doing well :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounded awful!
Purrs Georgia and Julie,
Treasure and JJ
Half-rations HAVE to be against the Geneva Convention. My goodness.
ReplyDeleteOMC, what a trying time for all of you. Are you all feeling better now? Don't let her forget about the half rations thing. Humans can't be allowed to get away with that kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteWe are super happy that everyone is better now. We are so lucky that this has never happened to us. But thanks for the warning a out the cans. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteSounds like there has been lots happening at your house! Hopefully you have a nice quiet, peaceful and healthy holiday season!
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
Thank you for the warning. I am glad you are all feeling better.
ReplyDeleteBeing starved is no fun. Mum looks at the cans she gets carefully, both for her sake and mine. The "whoosh" is a good sound to hear.
ReplyDeleteMommy read this to us and Speedy, who has IBD, was so distressed about it he had to take to his bed. Or maybe he was just tired, we can't be sure. Glad you're all feeling better, maybe you should ask for extra Gerbers just to be sure.
ReplyDeletehalf rations are fun for no one
ReplyDeleteUgh, what a mess! WE feel for you guys (and your pawrents)!!
