Aloha

Friends and Kitties,

It's me, KonaKitty--bidding you all Aloha.

After nearly twenty years of a truly wonderful life, I have made my journey to the next world, peacefully and quietly, much as I lived my life..
I say aloha because in the Hawaiian Islands (I'm named for the Kona coast on the Big Island) "aloha" means hello as well as goodbye, and I am so looking forward to reuniting with all the kitties that have come and gone whilst I lived on:  my manny Fuzzy, who allowed me to nurse on him when I was a bebbeh kitteh (he was a saint), my papa Spooky who taught me to chase squirrels in the big oak trees, Mister Max who showed me all the best vole holes.

I'll see Hooter, who washed my face (constantly!), and Sascha, who snuggled daily and sang along with me on the Long Drive from Illinois to Nevada.

My heart will be filled with joy to see Dusty again--it took me a long time to recover from his passing--we were the best of friends and soul mates.  Cuddling with him again will be bliss.

I suppose I'll cross paths with Chuckles too...hmmmmm...I may have to swat him for old time's sake!

And Grayce will be happy to hear all the latest gossip, I'm sure.

Mommy, I'm sorry about the time I hid in the sock drawer and you thought I'd escaped.  At the time I was only a tot and I thought it was Great Fun to play hide and seek!  Thank you for all the nights you let me snuggle with you under the covers even though you were already hot, and Daddy, I am grateful for all the heaty pads and cream servings and the whole Catio so I could bask in my beloved sunbeams.

I had a great life.

Thank you.

aloha.

It was on a street called Kaiminani drive which I was told means a place of quiet beauty in Hawaiian. I hope that is what you find. The same for your humans. It's what we all need.....

  114. When my "best kitty ever" died, I felt so sad. After some time I realized I was continuing to grieve not for Shadow, but for myself! I hoped/knew he was in a better place...the Rainbow bridge! I explored the Rainbow Bridge after a dear friend send me a card. I know Shadow isn't here on Earth with me. And that hurts and still makes me cry when I think of it that way. But when I think of Shadow Kitty I know I gave him a better life than he most certainly gotten as he was scheduled to be "put down" at the humane society. After rescuing
him I know that we shared 17 wonderful years together. He purred, enjoyed the warmth of the sun on his furs, loved a good old fashioned dirt bath with lots of good rolling and stretching, chatted with lots of birds even catching a few! He was a wonderful tree climber and used my husband as a substitute tree jumping up on to his shoulders nightly! Oh how the both enjoyed that! I tear up now writing this now, but not for Shadow Kitty for me..my husband..our loss. I know that Shadow Kitty isn't in any more pain. That is what I take comfort in knowing now...11 years later. Why do I tell you this long post you may ask? Because my Shadow Kitty looked just like your sweet Kona Kitty!!!! And Kona Kitty, along with your wonderful sense of humor and style of writing is why we have followed your blog for oh so many wonderful years. Occasionally posting as just another anonymous person. Please take comfort that lots of people---people that you may never, ever know feel sorry for you and your husbands loss now. I know Kona Kitty is in a pain-free, warm happy place and you will see be reunited again. Take time and let yourself grieve now. One minute at a time now one hour at a time...but I promise your load/sadness will lessen and happiness will shine again. You will rescue another unknown named kitty again and provide that new baby a wonderful life. Our new joy is named Buffy. She is a polite, polite little lady...buff in color. So much the opposite of our Shadow Kitty. But that is the wonder of cats! Similar but yet so different and wonderful. We still miss Shadow Kitty daily, but know that he is fine for now. And look forward to seeing him, along with all of our past and future ones yet to come...when we will all be together again. My concern is I hope all of their different unique personalities will get along together!! Ha Ha! Take care my friend. I look forward to meeting your next friend in the future. Bob & Kathy McCreary

  126. It's never easy to say good-bye, even after a long, full life. Kona was undoubtedly loved and cared for, but it would have been nice if she could have stayed a bit longer. Godsped, Kona.

  128. Aloha, KonaKitty. "You have left your forever home, but now you are forever home."
Of course, I am crying, but it's for your family, not you. When you were done greeting all the friends and family waiting you at the bridge, you might see a cat waiting in the background, to see if you would like one more greeting. She is black, quietly friendly, and was known in her forever home as Shadow-Kitty, more formally as Shadow. Secretly, she was the kitty princess of the Shenandoah.

  132. Aw Kona....we are so sorry for taking soo very long to write to you ... we hope you will get this there on the other side of the bridge. What a beauty you were and the world is sad without you, but you said it so eloquently...how you will see all your old friends and knowing this, it made us a little less sad that you have left us. Yes, we, too will join you one day. If you see Lautrec or Tiny over there, could you please tell them Mom still misses them HUGELY? I'm sure your Mom and Dad also miss you enormously...humans are like that...they get really attached to us because they don't know or really understand the other side of the bridge like we naturally do...we love the humans, too, but we know that we will be together, forever some day. This knowledge allows us kitties to live shorter earth lives in tranquility. Never the less, do be sure to watch over your humans and to send them little kisses from time to time...they need that. See you later. Your friend and BadCat, Elioth (and my sister Chouchou and my dawg brother and sister, Ellwood and Ginger) at WeezDaBadCats & DaMeenDawgs (yes, we are still here...our Mom is just too lazy to let us get on her computer and keep our blog up to date...bahhhd Mom!)
