Friends and Kitties!
Sheebie here.
I was able to help a birdy on Friday and it made me so happy I just have to tell you about it.
I was on my way back into the Control Room at work after my rounds when I saw a beautiful snow white pigeon walking in the courtyard, dragging something strange behind it. I couldn't tell if it was a broken wing or feathers at first, but I figured out that her leg was tangled up in something.
I trotted into the building to grab a pair of scissors and some bird seed.*
I came out and got a few photos while she got used to me. This was obviously not a feral bird, she was perfectly happy to come up to me and investigate the seed mix.
When she got close enough I was able to snip off the thing attached to her leg.
It was a rolled up photo with something inside, wrapped up with a strip of fabric, one end of which had been tied to her leg! I was worried the fabric on her leg would be a problem, so I lured Miss White closer and nabbed her--what a sweet bird, she didn't struggle or peck or even poop. I went across the courtyard to Security and Frank came outside to see why I was kicking the door; he got out his multi-tool and was able to get the fabric untied. It was definitely knotted, there's no way Miss White snagged her foot by accident. No doubt stupid mean kids took advantage of a good-natured bird.
It felt so good to help.
I saw her flying around on Saturday, so I think no permanent damage was done. And I put a little extra seed out for her, too.
Happy Sunday--Have a Wonderful Week!
