Kitties!
Maui here...Mommy has been giving me my anti-inappropriate pee-ing pills so I'm calm enough for a report!
Here at the Lounge it's been really really REALLY hot. The Catio is up to 110F (at least!) every afternoon. So we kitties have figured out some ways to stay cool.
You might notice that there are no leaves on the trees behind me. Daddy took this picture early last Spring, when it was cool outside and we lived on the catio 24/7. My furz are all fluffed out and thick to keep me warm in the cool air.
Here I am a couple of months ago. As the weather gets warmer we start moving down levels on the Catio and migrate to the North side of the house. I'm lounging in front of the french doors off of the Great Room here. The concrete stays cool up next to the house and I'm taking advantage of that. Feel free to admire my nice "grill-marks" on my hinders. And fronters.
Nowadays, since it's so dang hot Out, you'll most often find us Kats up against the foundation, belly or back pressed up to the cool concrete. We don't HAVE to be outside, but this is where we like to be. Mommy went along the house and moved stuff out of the way so we'd have a lot of space for squashing ourselves up against the house. Mommy's nice like that.(Notice the Evil Dyson on the table in the left side of the picture? It's up in the air so we can't pee on it like it deserves.)

Of course, when the heat gets to be too much, we come inside, cool off on the tile, and then stake out some real estate on the Big Bed.Kitties, this is the Bomb! When I was a feral Kat I NEVER had it this good. The indoor life is toe-curlingly great!

Those are lovely cute and curly toes. We are very glad we don't get the hots like you. It has cooled down here now but still sticky at night. Two nights ago dad woke up and couldn't see me. He looked out of the bedroom window and I was curled up asleep in a tiny ball right in the middle of the lawn.I slept there all night instead of my plant pot or on the bed.

Awwww Gorgeous Maui!!!! You are one cool kitty!! Me and Charlie adore your floofy toesies up in the air like that!! Your mum is really lovely to move things aways so you kitties can lean close to the concrete and tiles! Shame about the dyson! Nevermind!! :-)

ReplyDeleteEven England is having a heat wave! Keep cool. Maybe you can sleep by the toilet and then if you need a drink you can easily have a sip before resuming your nap.

Hi Maui, I'm so glad you have a great indoor life now. It sounds fab! Your grill marks are gorgeous and so are your toesies. It's hot here too but in the 90's. We have humidity and I'm guessing you don't, which helps. Hope you all stay cool this weekend!

We have had sooo much heat and humidity here that our pawrents have had to keep watering the new plants that were just put in this spring. Mom says she doesn't want to see the next electric bill!!!!! Hey, maybe fill one of those pools with water and go swimming!=^Y^=

Maui, you are one gorgeous girl -- I love your "grill marks" -- quite the stunning tabby stripes! It is indeed funny how you keep cool by belling up to the concrete foundation. Quite innovative -- whatever works!
ReplyDeletemAYBE you could get your Daddy to put up a mister on the catio. We used to live in California and had one there. It really helped drop the temperature, and yes our cats would go into the mist .

Maui you and the others sure have found a unique way to cool off up against the foundation like that. We are lucky in that we have a cool basement for when the heat gets too bad here.

ReplyDeleteConcrete in the shade is really good fer coolin off on! Our patio is unner the deck above an there are trees shadin the deck, so we are double-shaded there.
