Wing'ed Wednesday

Kitties!

We had a really yummy looking pretty bird come visit us.
Daddy took photos, and Mommy identified him.

He's a Hooded Oriole!
Daddy noticed him when he (the Oriole, not Daddy) was trying to drink the nectar out of the hummerbird feeder.
He was partially successful; he got a few sips.

Orioles love fruit, so Mommy put some out for him to eat.
We haven't seen him again, but we're hungrily watching, and Mommy is inspecting the fruit for peck-marks.  She hopes he'll become a regular.
We hope he tastes like chik-kun...

Happy Wednesday!

  5. Or as the cat in Get Fuzzy says about birds, "They were also made DELICIOUS, so don't be lookin' to them for answers." ;-)

  7. How the heck do you get birds to visit your garden? We got Mommy to put out seeds (pumpkin, sunflower....), peanuts (for the squirrels), mango and even set up a bath for them but everything's left untouched. Crazy birds (and squirrels).
Oh well, we'll just enjoy watching YOUR birds. Sigh.

  8. Oh boy, oh boy, that's one tasty looking bird! You lucky kitties!!!!

Our mom found a deaded bird on the deck and she wouldn't share it with us and it was already deaded. She's mean like that!

  10. How exciting! We just get boring sparrows here, and an occasional mourning dove and even more occasionally, a dumb pigeon.

  17. He certainly is a handsome bird!

We have no hope of seeing one of those in our little back space, let alone the ultimate fantasy of it falling into our mouths.

  18. i've never seen a oriole in person and it's a life goal because i like the baseball team the baltimore orioles and the Hoagy Carmichael song of the same name.

  19. It must have been exciting to see a bird like that. Our feeders get sparrows and finches and maybe a cardinal or blue jay. We hope your oriole comes back for more good food and something to drink.

  22. Our high school team is the Orioles.
We have a few of the regular kind of oriole in our neighborhood. One neighbor puts out orange marmalade for them and they like that.

  24. An Oriole visited my parents house and their hummingbird feeder too! So after some research we got my dad an oriole feeder. They do like the nectar, but their feeder has a different configuration because they dont have the same beak/tongue that hummers do. But the actually prefer grape jelly and oranges. There are feeders that have all three, nectar, jelly bowls and orange spikes, but we got one that only has jelly and orange places. I hope your Oriole comes back! But with all those drooling kitties, would you blame him if he didnt? MOL

  25. Awesome! I am trying to attract them at my feeders. I have a special feeder for them that holds an orange slice and some jelly. They like grape jelly! We have had some humming bird visitors with the nectar feeder too. So fun!

  29. awww yes the Hooded Oriole..Mom had them come through in So Calif. They always show up in Summer around hummer feeders. Mom has an Oriole feeder that you put half an orange in and then some nectar around it, like for hummers, but the nectar is open, no little holes to suck it out of...too much information????

  30. Oh how pretty! We love little yellow birds!
