Two-Fur Tuesday

Kitties!

Sweet Pea and Rupert here.
We like to snuggle--in the heaty box, in the sunny garden window, in the middle of the day.

There's no such thing as too much warmth!

Happy Twosday!

Why?

Because I *want* to sleep underneath the fleece cover!
Don't be ridiculous, Mommy.
I don't need a reason...
I'm a CAT.

Happy Friday!

Sylvester, Solo

Kitties!

Sylvester here.
Hello.
The heaty pad is on--once again--for the cool season and we've implemented a complicated hotly contested roster of who gets it, when, and for how long.  Mommy will have to implement some more hot boxes, and soon, or it's gonna be complete pandemonium around here.

Because I've decided not to budge.
Or share.
However, I *will* share a Sunday Selfie photo...

::whoops, too close::

There!
Purrfect.
Now, back to my cozy hot solo nap.

Happy Heaty Sunday!

Thankful Thursday

Kitties!

One favorite thing we're thankful for is our fleece-lined box tops.  The tops are from paper ream boxes, Mommy brings them home from work.  They are supposed to be for Daddy's business because they hold four rows of cassette tapes perfectly--BUT--they hold one feline even better!
Daddy has several boxes in his office.  You can see that they fit Cats of all sizes...Small(ish), Medium, and...

LARGE.
Thank Cod cardboard has some give to it.

Mommy sews the fleece liners to fit the tops, and she puts a folded towel underneath the fleece so our little Cat bodies are properly cushioned and coddled.
Daddy, who is the arty one around here, ordered the fun fabric off the innernets!
Some of the box tops have heaty pads in them, which is only right and fitting.  Although the one by the sofa is an unheated location.  Which is OK by Johnny--with such thick fur he gets too hot.

We occasionally reward Mommy and Daddy's efforts with a little Extreme Cuteness.
(Not to be confused with Everyday Cuteness.)

Extreme Cuteness is exhausting, so we don't do it too often.  Also, it doesn't pay to spoil your Peeps.
Sweet Dreams, John...

What are YOU thankful for?

Happy Thursday!

Kitty Hot Box How-To

Kitties!

We have it made here at the Kat Lounge. We've mentioned a perk we have here before, in passing, and we asked our Mommy to give YOUR Mommies & Daddies instructions on How To make your very own Kitty Kat Bum-Warming Box.

Bum-warming box on the right.

NOTE: You don't have to use a sewing machine! 10 minutes of easy hand sewing will work just fine.

You will need:

Fleece, with a little stretch to it--about a yard square

smallish towel

Cat sixed box or box top with about 3" high sides heating pad, sized to fit in box

box cutter

needle, thread, scissors, band-aids (heh heh)

measuring tape

rudimentary arithmetic skills and/or calculator

Step 1.

Remove cat from box and measure the box: length, width, and sides. Write down numbers.

Step 2.

Wth the box cutters, cut a small hole in the corner of the box to thread the heating pad cord through.

Step 3.

Here comes the Math!

Length of fleece equals: length of box PLUS 4 times the height of the sides.

ex. box=18.5 inches, sides=3.5 inches Total length needed is 18.5+(4x3.5) OR 18.5 +14=32.5 inches

Do the width the same way, width of box PLUS 4 times the height of the sides.

Step 4.

Lay out fleece, remove cat. Cut fleece L X W, in the dimensions you calculated in Step 2.

Step 5.

From each corner, cut out a square of fleece equal to twice the height of the box. If the box is 3" high, cut out 6" squares. You'll be left with a piece of fabric that looks like a weird "plus" sign.

Step 5a.

Put a few pinches of nip in one of the waste squares, knot it, and give it to the Cat, who may (or may not) now leave you alone.

Step 6.

With the right sides of the fleece together, stitch the two sides of each cut out together.

Step 7.

Thread the heating pad cord into the box, top it off with the towel.

Step 8.

Tuck the fleece into the box and turn the sides down over the outside of the box.

Step 9.

Plug heating pad in. There you go!

Of course, after all that work your Cat will probably avoid this project like the plague (contrary beasts) for a while--but curiousity and comfort will win the day! ENJOY!

Thank You Mommy, for doing this post for our friends! We love our hot boxes and we hope you do too.
