Maui Wowie

Kitties!

Maui here....

...and it's Too Darn Hot for any wowie.

Thank Cod I got shaved!

The Mommy:  For all our pals who are attending BlogPaws in Phoenix, please stay cool and hydrated--drink before you're thirsty--and as awful as it sounds, try to avoid going outdoors for any long periods between eleven and sundown.  I'm outside (at work) every afternoon for a couple of hours and am acclimated; but even so this heat is exceptionally brutal.
Be sensible!

Happy Wednesday!

Boneless Boy

Kitties!

Scouty here.

Unlike some of the more intelligent less robust Kitties here at The Lounge, I really enjoy lazing around in the heat.
You can find me outdoors, even when it's elebenty zillion billion degrees on the Catio.
I have Top Secret Cooling Weapon, though; I scoot up next to the foundation of the house, where it's much cooler.

I plaster my furry tummy up on the concrete and absorb the cold, like this:
whoops, photobomb.

Let's try again:
There!
See how I'm all twistified for maximum chillication?

Mommy sometimes wonders if I have any bones at all...

Happy Thursday!

The Cat Daze of Summer

Kitties!

Johnny here.
It's that time of the summer that some people mistakenly call the Dog Days.

I beg to differ!

These nice long hot days are tailor-made for kitties; lazing about, and napping, and daydreaming, and snoozing, and airing out the tummy furs, and...well...you get the general idea--the stuff at which we Cats excel.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some urgent relaxamicating to do...I wouldn't want to be accused of slacking!

Happy Monday!

Melting Mancat Monday

Kitties!

Maui here.

The Super-HOTS have arrived here in the desert.
It's the time of year where, if you are crazypants enough want a snooze on the Catio, you have to scootch up to the cool house foundation to prevent overheating.

Some days there's a line of us against the wall...me, KonaKitty, CC, Scouty, and John, all in a row.   Thank Cod it's a long wall, that's about fifteen feet of feline if you include our tails!  Which we do.

I was getting ready to turn over when Mommy started laughing--she said my Fur Horn hairdo made me look like a young Jack Nicholson:

*pthbbbbbbt*

I just can't see any resemblance, can you?

Happy Monday!

CATURDAY!

Kitties!

Rupert here.
It's Caturday!
Which is great, but it's really HOT on the Catio.  Too hot for exuberant* capering about, certainly.

All I can muster is a minuscule ear adjustment.
Maybe later, when it cools off, I might manage a stretch...

...or not.

Happy Caturday!

Sunday with Sheebie

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

It's been a while, hasn't it?  So much was going on here at Kasa Katnip lately--but I think it's settling down for a bit.  Thank COD.

We are rolling into the HOTS, with daytime temps in the low 100's and in the upper 80's at night.  There's no humidity to speak of so as long as I keep hydrated the heat feels wonderful on my starting-to-age joints.  I know why KonaKitty enjoys it so much!  I was a wee tad concerned that I'd expire doing (outdoor) plant checks at work for two hours every afternoon on my "new" shift, but so far it hasn't been difficult at all.  A hat, a canteen, and a quick scuttle from patch to patch of shade seems to do the trick just fine.  Things might get a little sticky when monsoon starts and the humidity arrives, but by then we're all acclimated to the heat for the most part.  You'll never hear me whine about the temperature, I just recall the cruel grind of seven months of Midwest winter (every. damn. year.) and keep my pie-hole zipped.  Call me weird, but I enjoy the blistering sun, the parched landscape, the sere vistas.

We're about done with the home renos, just waiting to get a contractor in to install the rubber baseboard and the plumber to run some outdoor stuff for the garden hose bib.  Everything turned out wonderfully (I owe y'all photos, I know) and the best bit is the guy who did all the work has become a good friend.  Funny how life works out like that.  Scott is going on vacation (hurrah-the house to myself for a week!) in July and I am tentatively planning to paint our kitchen cupboards while he's gone to freshen them up; they're in pretty sad condition.

The Baby has her good and bad days.  For the most part she's back to her chipper self but we can definitely tell when her gall bladder is acting up.  We started her on a new drug to help dissolve gallstones and are hoping it will do some good for the long term.  I am still speechless at how generous you all were with donations and bids for her auction.  Thank you, again!  The other three sickies are plodding along:  John appears to be more mobile in his hips with the Cosequin, although he caught a cold at the vet's office and is on antibiotics (which make him foam, poor boy) for a week.  Grayce is holding her own with the intestinal lymphoma--no more weight loss--but even with ever-increasingly squittier poops she's simply the happiest cat I've ever met.  We'll just have to see how it goes--she doesn't seem to be in pain at all.  Kona is just thin and frail and old, and a little senile...but as bossy as ever and DEMANDS her pets and luvvins from both of us every day.  Several times a day, if she can't remember the last session...

Well.
I think that's enough for one Sunday, eh?

Have a Great week, and Happy Sunday!

Thermal Thursday

Kitties!

The HOTS have arrived here in the desert.
About time!
It was 104F out on the Catio, (finally) hot enough for KonaKitty to abandon her heated beddy-box and head for the concrete.  May Ling is wedged up against the foundation keeping her back cool.  DO NOT think the yellow stain next to Miss Ling is tinkle...it's spilled varnish!  Truly.

Scouty, who normally sleeps in the Sky Lounge during the day has moved down a floor to the floor, venturing occasionally inside to cool off on the tile.  Rhino is oblivious to the heat.  He stays on the shelf, no matter the weather.  He's a trooper!

The Baby is enjoying the heat, but her forays Outside are now curtailed to the times the yard is shady--the rocks are too hot for her paw pads for very long.  She'd be happy to snooze in the tomato plants all damn day but Daddy is a wiener and refuses to stay out for hours, watching her.

Mommy says she hardly sees any of us anymore, and that the outside Cat Boxes have considerably more dung than the indoor ones, now.  We love Summer.  Nothing beats pooping al fresco in pleasant warm weather!

Happy Thursday!

Thankful Thursday

Kitties!

Can you figure out whose tummy this is?

It's mine!
KonaKitty's!

I'm in my usual hot weather spot, stretched out next to the foundation, keeping warm and cool all at the same time.  I'm a very efficient cat.  When my front side gets nice and toasty I flip over and press my tummy against the (relatively) chilly slab.  Of course I re-rotate when my dorsal side gets overly warm.  Mommy calls me her little Feline Rotisserie--silly Mommy, I'm too stringy to eat!

I'm very thankful that I have such a nice spot to relax.

Where do you like to sleep when it's hot?

Happy Thursday!

Sunday with Sheebie, the Chafed

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here, and I'm in the mood to unload a giant buttload of Snarkastic* Whining.
(Is there such a thing as a petite buttload?)

Ready?

Lately I've had a niggling suspicion that the Kats' Gmail account (yes, they have their own) wasn't dumping into mine like it's supposed to.  I ignored the feeling for a couple of weeks until Saturday when I decided to bite the bullet and investigate.  Holy shit.  Nine hundred and twenty three unread emails!  Granted, most of them were Facebook updates (how do I get RID of those!?!) but I missed two entries to the Cat-O-Lympic counter Surfing event, which I'll put up next week whilst eating much crow (served by the felines), and several personal messages to various Kats, and even myself.   What a pain.

Remember the last couple of of posts about me being depressed?  Well, I think I'm back on track again but the effing herpes virus that lives just below my left eyelid has not gotten the glad tidings and flared up into two small shingles--which itch worse than fire ant bites on a sunburned hemorrhoid.  Don't ask.  Why can't I get a big old honkin' cold sore like a normal person?  At least people would notice and maybe think I'm getting some damn fine illicit nooky or something.  I'd be the envy of all my friends.  (Hi Mom!)
Instead, I have a one-half puffed eyelid, like I have some Asian genes just dying to express themselves but not quite getting it--nobody's gonna ask (or be envious) about that.

I know I promised some Park Across the Street pictures but you know, it's just too damn hot outside to lug the camera twenty yards into the desert to show y'all a half built brick restroom and a bunch of brown cement curbs. In the eleven years we've lived here this is the worse Monsoon season I've experienced with temps in the 105-110 range and 40% (and up) humidity.  Hello!  Mister Weather?  This is a DESERT here...you can take this sucky humidity and send it to San Fransisco ('Frisco') or Seattle or wherever they grow webbed toes and drink fancy-shmancy single origin bean coffee and make with the blast furnace!  How am I supposed to maintain my dessicated desert rat status in this soup?  Srsly.

I went out for dinner on Thursday with my girlfriend Dana, who is, I must inform you, a Bad Influence.  She drives me to drink.  Why I persist in dining with her...I just don't know.  It must be the conviviality that draws me in, because the agony of the aftereffects of one lousy gin and tonic are simply horrific.  I was hoisting the sheets a third of the way through my glass, in bed by eight PM, and hung over the next morning!  Dana says the only reasonable cure is to drink more, and more often.  I repeat: she is a bad, bad girl.

I've been staging a private rebellion in that I've not been commenting on blogs as much.  I know, kill me dead.  I realized it was a source of anxiety so I'm forcing myself to not be so OCD about checking in with every single person every. damn. day.  Plus, I'm in the thick of a reading orgy (I updated my Goodreads book list) and since I have to do that work thingy (dirty bastards) my time is limited.
Speaking of reading, I am all up in arms and stuff over the new branch of the so-called public library by my house.  Since it's located in the Senior Center facility, you're supposed to be over 50 to use it!  I say this is crap ageist and I'm not paying these goody two shoes Senior Rules one iota of attention.  I'm marching my forty nine and one-half year old rebel self in there, and if I'm accosted by some Senior Scofflaw Enforcer Ima flash 'em my AARP** card--and anything else it's gonna take--to get my booty into that damn library and check out a book.

There.  I feel MUCH better.
Anything bugging you?

Happy Sunday and have a great week!

Modest Monday

Kitties!

KonaKitty here.
I can't tell you how happy I am to have summer and the HOTS back again.  I'm a Senior gal and the heat feels good on my creaky bones...in fact, I get so nice and warm laying on the Catio that I go all flat and boneless!  Mommy calls me Melty Kitty.  I stay outdoors all day unless the temperature creeps up into the elebenty-teens, if it gets hotter than that I go and sleep on Mommy's bed.  Otherwise, I scoochie up against the house foundation to keep my backside cool and my front nice and toasty.

Melty Kitty Re-enactment

Mommy has been grooming me lots.  In the summer I shed my underwear completely so she has bushels of fur to comb out, and my knickers get in a twist easily (thus matting my fur) if Mommy doesn't groom me often.  Fortunately for Mommy I love being brushed.  I also barber my undercarriage.  I don't know why, but I prefer a semi-nood look for my tummy.  And after 14 years of barbering, I'm not about to quit.

You might think I look disheveled here but my fur is very fine and flyaway, and curly underneath!  It was windy when Mommy took the picture.

Say, do you want to know something a tiny bit naughty?

Mommy calls my teats KITTY TITTIES!
ha ha ha ha!

She's such a comedian.
*sigh*

Happy Monday!

Lazybones Sunday

Kitties!

DON'T PANIC!

None of us are going to saute our whiskers...we have A/C at home.
We might have been a little unclear about that yesterday, although KonaKitty LOVES the heat, and stays outside most of the summer.  It has to be REALLY hot before she comes indoors to sleep.  Like hot, boiling lava temperatures.
The rest of us hang out indoors during the day when the temps get above 105 F or so, and go outside to conduct important business play in the evening.
Do you see Salem's latest egg carton victim?  She's buttering it up before the inevitable butchery.

We have a few favorite spots:
The Mondo scratchy post has a great view of the entire great room.

Three in the tree!
The Cat tree is almost continually occupied, day and night, unless Mommy shakes the treat jar.

Johnny is as big as a Cat bed.
Mommy's bed is an ever-popular spot for a snooze.  Sometimes we even let her sleep in it!

Maui is the only Sink Cat in the house...he conks out for hours.

Where do you like to sleep?

Happy Sunday!
