Kitties!
Grayce here.
Today, I'm thinking about how great it is to have friends.
You can cuddle with a friend
Friends look out for each other.
Friends can be different species.
You can play with friends!
Kitties, a friend of mine is really, really sick. My friend is a Human named Steve and I LOVE him. I especially love his shoes; he always wears my favorite loafers just for me. I don't hardly even bite him...much.
Mommy can explain a little more:
Steve is my co-worker and I've known him for ten years...he lives alone and his only family is his Mom, who is 90 years old and lives a six hour car ride away. Last week he was hospitalized for a mass that burst in his abdomen...the surgeon had to remove two sections of intestine/bowel. The histology for the mass came back non-cancerous, which amazed us all--he's complained about "stomach" issues for YEARS--so I'm assuming the growth has been there for quite some time.
Steve's in intensive care in an induced coma, although the ICU nurse said for a patient in his condition he's doing rather well. Today they were planning on lightening up his narcotics and start weaning him from the respirator. His Mom is here for the week, and yesterday I drove his truck from the hospital to his condo. Yes, he drove HIMSELF to the hospital, even while this thing was exploding and bleeding inside him!
I am furious with Steve. This is not the first time he's neglected himself; picture a typical middle-aged man just hoping whatever that mysterious nagging pain is will just go away. When I saw him yesterday I told him if he pulls through this I am going to strangle him.
And I told him that if he knows what's good for him, he'll get better.
I told him I loved him.
Steve has a long journey ahead of him, probably three more weeks in intensive care, then onto a regular room, then rehab.
Grayce and I would like to ask you to please say a prayer and send some purrs Steve's way.
Or she'll bite you.
Thank you all very much, we'll keep you updated on how Steve is doing. And if any of you out there have any experience with peritonitis and/or ostomy patients or resources please leave me a comment or email me at katniplounge@gmail.com.
Happy Friday!
Enjoy today like it's your last day on Earth.
