Yearly Appearance

Kitties!

Scouty here.

Since the HOTS started, all of us here at The Lounge have been shedding like banshees* according to Mommy, and she's been a Woman Possessed, pinning us down with her grabby hands and brandishing The Evil Implements of Fur Removal.

With, of course, the exception of me.  Because, No Touching.

So every year I construct a little Catlick (cat + cowlick) on my back from the extra fur.
It drives Mommy batcrap crazy--she's dying to snip it off.
(For your information, batcrap crazy is worse than crazypants!)

Naturally this will NEVER EVER happen.  I mean, really, I don't generally even let her get close enough to get decent pictures...like today.

I'll remove the latest catlick in my own good time--the longer I sport it the batcrappier Mommy gets--and that's a good thing, right?

Happy Tuesday!

PURRpurrations

Kitties!

Johnny here.

Me and Daddy are all ready for Meowloween this upcoming Caturday!

He's wearing his thematically correct black and orange shirt, and I've got on my best Scary Face...bring on those sticky little monsters trick-or-treaters, we're set.

Oh, wait--they ring the doorbell, don't they?

Maybe I'll celebrate under the bed, instead.

Busting some ghost bunnies.

'Cos that's really brave...right?

Happy Tuesday!

Our Annual Visitor

Kitties!

The Yellow-Headed Blackbird cruised through last week.

He shows up every year for a few days, and on this occasion we learned something new about him:

His head isn't all that's yellow, his bum feathers are too!

uh oh.

He *may* be a little angry over us revealing his puce-plumaged pooper...

Feathered Friday

Kitties!

We have a daily visitor to our bird bath.
A roadrunner!

He comes in to drink and bathe between noon and one o'clock.
hee hee hee...bedraggled!

Our roadrunner is a Greater Roadrunner, and unlike the cartoon roadrunner, he doesn't say "beep beep", he makes a clacking noise.  He hunts snakes and lizards an scorpions, and all the coyotes we've seen around here would eat him up in one gulp.  And he's NOT purple!

The cartoon got the classic "Roadrunner Stance" correct though...

Happy Friday!

The Shadow Repurrt

Kitties!

Shadow here.

As much as I hate to admit it, I missed the Screechy Lady after she left.  She was good enough in a pinch to chase me around the house and pet me whenever Mommy or Daddy weren't available.

The day after her departure I napped in "her" chair, a place I've never snoozed before.

I swear, it was merely to determine if it was comfortable or not!

I may have looked outside for a little while, to see if she was coming back...

...because she brought a totally pawesome bag of toys and cat inebriants* with her.  Something a small black kitty can never have too much of!

Her mate sent my Mommy me some wonderful flowers to sniff, too.
(Don't worry, I left them alone--we know lilies are poisonous.)

Maybe next time she stays I'll deign to sleep on the bed with her...but don't hold your breath, Screechy Lady...you're not 100% alright in my book.  Yet.
Gotta give her something to strive for.

Happy Monday!

Visiting Catio Pals

Kitties!

Last week we had visitors from ENGLAND...no, not Wills and Kate, somebody even better than that...

...we were graced with the presence of Cat Blogosphere royalty, Ginger Jasper's Mum and Dad--Carol and Barrie!

We all had the nicest visit.

It was like we all had known each-other for ages!

In fact, quite a few of us had a cuddle with Carol...

even Felix!

We sure wish England wasn't so very far away...

Happy Thursday!

What We Did Last Week

Kitties!

As you know, we had visitors last week.
This is what they spent a lot of time doing:

PETTING US!
Ellen and Barb are both highly experienced Cat Patters.

We thoroughly approved of their presence and they may slather love on our furry little hides visit again any time they want to.  Even CC almost allowed himself to be touched, which is a First Ever for him with a "stranger"!  Another day and he would have been rumbling like a fool for Ellen, we just know it.

We also ate quite well.

Mommy made a prime rib roast for New Year's Day, and we all ate like starving wolves royalty.
We had our own plate!

Come back soon, Barb and Ellen, our hides and hungrumblies miss you.

Happy Tuesday!

In Which We Have a HELLuva Visitor!

Kitties!

We had SUCH fun yesterday...we had a visitor from Hell Canada!

It was our good friend Nellie, The Cat From Hell!
Nellie is on a world-wide teleporting junket this summer, visiting as many blog pals as she can.  Naturally we hoped she'd drop in...
Since we don't have a teleportation tube (somekitty pee'd in it and the eggbeaters shorted out) CC did a fancypants reno job on our cube--look, he's getting a signal!

Unfortunately, he neeeds to do a leetle more tweaking; Nellie landed on our front walk instead if coming through in the cube!

Being the intrepid traveller she is, Nellie strolled through our yard and scratched at the Catio door.

May Ling Spotted Nellie first and ran to get Daddy, who let her in, and put out a HUGE crate of fresh catnip for all of us to enjoy!

Which we DID...

♪ ♫ ♫ picture yourself on a boat on a river
with tangerine trees
and
marmalade skies♫ ♪ ♫

Holy CATS!!!
Daddy grows some powerful fine nip.

We had the munchies after all that nip, and instead of Doritos we ate some wildly colored Cat Cookies that Nellie had brought with her for a snack--they were deLISHus!
We must have the recipe...

And then the most EXCITING thing happened!!!!

*  *
*

*

*

*

Nellie crowned The Baby as QUEEN of Mohave Meadows!!!

Yes, we have Royalty in the Clowder--and who knows what sort of trouble this is gonna cause--courtesy of the Original Cat from Hell!
Do you suppose she planned it?

Nellie, we had a blast spending the day with you, come on over any time--CC promises to get the cube dialed in right next time!
Nellie promised to report on her visit on her blog, too--click HERE to go see.

Happy Friday!!

Feathered Amuse Bouce

Kitties!

Felix here.
I'm hanging with Daddy in his my office, lounging on the comfy blanket Mommy folded up for us kitties who lay on the window ledge.
We're verreh busy, watching birdies!

Right now the bird-watching scene is hot-hot-hot, cos there are lots and lots of different types of birds migrating through our area; in fact, Mommy saw one of these on Saturday:
Isn't he a tasty,...erm...handsome looking fellow?
As we are only a mile (as the bird flies, MOL) away from the wash that drains the entire valley and the riparian ecosystem that surrounds it, we get to observe a wide variety of snax birds passing through.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to making my menu selections...

Happy Wednesday!

Toasty TortieMeezer Tuesday

Kitties!

May Ling here.

You know, Salem the Tart isn't the only kitty here at The Katnip Lounge who likes company, I do too!
The other day our neighbor Gisela came over to have a coffee-n-gossip with Mommy, and I jumped up in her lap to be social.  (Full Disclosure: also because she was sitting in a glorious sun beam)  Gisela  has been well trained likes kitties, and she knew right away what I wanted when I started to nose her hand:

A nice firm scritching!
It was purrific.

Happy Tuesday!

Tortoise Tuesday

Kitties!

Salem here.
Do you see what I see?

Daddy was taking the trash out on Sunday and saw what he thought was a pine cone--the fir tree next door makes big honkin' pine cones--but this "pine cone" was moving!
 Slowly.
Well, Daddy ran for the camera and the phone, and he called Mommy right away.  Desert tortoises are an endangered species here in the Mojave Desert, and believe it or not Mommy has had a Tortoise Training class sponsored by her employer!  So she knew a couple of phone numbers to call, as well as a pamphlet on what to do.

Daddy put the Tortoise in a tub, and offered him some cabbage, basil and parsley to eat.  He loved the cabbage, he ate two entire leaves, plus some basil.

Daddy decided to call him Ted the Tortoise.  It was OK to name him because he knew that Ted couldn't stay.
Ted HISSED when Daddy picked him up!  He was pretty loud, and he did some weird grunting, too.

Ted also peed when Daddy moved him, but he was expecting that; tortoises pee when they are frightened and the subsequent dehydration can kill them.*

So Ted had a tub of water waiting for him.

He had a nice drink and a soak.

And he pooped!
Then he ambled into his little hut for a rest.

Ted stayed in his deluxe accommodations overnight, until the Tortoise Rescue arrived.

We figure Ted must have washed out of the desert last week when we had such heavy rain.  When Mommy talked to the tortoise dude (official title) he said they usually get quite a few calls during the monsoon season.

hee hee...he's wearing gloves!

He estimated that Ted was probably 3 or four years old, and was too young to determine if he was a "Ted" or "Teddette".

Bye Ted...

It was fun to meet you!

Happy Trails, and Happy Tortoise Tuesday!
