In The Jungle

Kitties!

Shadow here, hunting.

There's a lizard underneath this bush, I just know it.

He will never escape my sharp claws and Fangs o'Doom!

Well, OK, maybe THIS time he got away.

But only because I let him.

Happy Monday!

Robert the Cat

Kitties!

Our Grandpawrents were sitting at their dining room table, birdwatching, when all of a sudden they wondered "where have all the birds gone?"

And then Robert "Bob" Catt appeared!

He hopped up on the back wall to sip the birdy's bath water.  Bob was a thirsty guy!

He drank and drank and drank...

...and had all the wildlife taking cover until he moved on.

We think he's quite good looking--but maybe a leetle too big to play with--we're glad these pictures were taken from behind the window!

Breaking Bob News!

Kitties!

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Catio Broadcast...

Look who visited Cousin Shadow on the back wall yesterday:
Big Bob!

He was a thirsty kitty--apparently birdbath water = Avian Gravy.

ahhhhh, the paws pause that refreshes.

Happy Tuesday!

Screechy and Shadow

Kitties!

We know, we know...this photo is not a selfie, AND it has two figures in it!
The very antithesis of a selfie.

However, we are rebels and so using this as our Sunday Selfie entry on the blog hop sponsored by The Cat on My Head!  It was, after all, taken with a cell phone.

Plus, there hasn't been another good opportunity to post this.  Please observe how obedient the Screechy Lady Mommy is when walking on a leash with Shadow, and don't forget to marvel at Mommy's styling fashion choices...

Happy Sunday!

Hissed Off

Kitties!

Felix here.

Or parts of me, anyway...
I am disgusted with Mommy, and do you know why?
Because she's gone and LEFT!

Vamoosed.
Hit the road.
Flew the friendly skies.

She went to Arizona to wait on Shadow visit her parents--and won't be back for elebenty billion years five days.

I am outraged, kitties, OUTRAGED at this turn of events.

I'm sure *I* never signed a PURRmission slip.

This is gonna be a loooooong week...

*sulk*

Stealthy

Kitties!

Look who was in Cousin Shadow's back yard:
Miss Bobette!
Peeking over the wall into the wash.

Grandma got Bobette's photo on the sly through the kitchen window.

Shadow occasionally sees an Arizona Relative outdoors, and it always spooks puts her on high alert; the rest of the day is spent pacing from window to window, making sure the introoder is really gone, instead of napping.
Such a bother!

This really is not a selfie, but we're using it anyway--because we're rebel cats who have some Bad Bob connections.  pbthbbbbbbbbt!

Mistress of All She Surveys

Kitties!

Cousin Shadow here.
My Momma got a new camera, and naturally she photographs the best subject in the house, me!
I'm outside in the front yard, keeping an eye out for any neighborly infractions...or lizards.
Especially lizards.
YUM.

I'm gonna use this for a Sunday Selfie, sponsored by The Cat on My Head!

Happy Sunday!

Monstrous Selfie

Kitties!

We have a Special Guest today to participate in the Cat on My Head's Sunday Selfie BlogHop...
A MONSTER!

A Gila Monster, that is.

He (She?  Nobody asked!) meandered though the Grandpawrent's back yard a few days ago and they were intrepid enough to "help" with some photos.  Those bricks are 14 inches (35 cm) long, to give you an idea of size.

Damn pawparazzi...I didn't want my photo done!  My scales are all dusty.
*grumble*

Um...apparently Monsters are rather vain!
Who knew?

ShadowDay!

Kitties!

Shadow here...can you spot me?

After many many many years of patient training I have finally succeeded in teaching my servunts to walk on a leash.

They are exceptionally well-behaved, now that they have the hang of it.

I take them out a few times a day for supervised strolls up and down the block; I'd prefer all day every day, but humans are so frail, compared with my Catly vigor.

While we walk if there is an especially interesting thing to investigate they show signs of tiring  I do allow them to take short breaks and talk to the neighbors who never fail to admire my leash lassoing skills.

As they should!
Just look at how perfectly this one heels...

Happy Caturday!

Javelinas!

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

I wanted to include this video with yesterday's post, but for some reason YouTube was being balky.  In all the years I've been visiting my parents I've seen many kinds of wildlife, but never a javelina--only captive at the Desert Museum.  So it was a real treat to see a group in the wash, and get it on camera!

My Dad says that the boars are a lot bigger, so this herd is just sows and babies.

Enjoy!

Snoopervising Saturday with Shadow

Kitties!

Miss Shadow here, repurrting from Arizona.
One of the Special Duties I perform is the Feline Safety Scan...

...keeping the yard free of javelinas!

Which I saw, once, over the wall.  And I did not slither on my belly like a reptile for the back door, thank you very much!

Happy Saturday!

Sceadu Sunday

Kitties!

Shadow here.

Did you know that my name--Shadow/Sceadu--is an old old old word for "shade"?  Furthermore, a Sceadugengen* is a mythical creature of the forest, walking silently and seeing all.

Well.

I may not be walking in a forest, but I am walking outside nowadays!
See?

It took me a year, but I finally wore my peeps down with my relentless begging was able to fulfil my destiny.

Fate, apparently, is a good thing.

Happy Sunday!

Oh, Deer!

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

My parents live in Arizona and their back yard opens out onto a huge wash.  They've seen all sorts of wildlife; bob cats, javelina, snakes, chippies, and millions of birds--but this was their first mule deer sighting, and as luck would have it the camera was nearby.

Peeping over the neighbor's wall--they have a bird bath that the deer was using as a watering hole.

Down in the wash.  That's my Mom in the right of the frame...the deer was close!

Browsing.

I wonder what they'll see next--maybe a cougar?

Happy Sunday!

An Exciting Arizona Event!!!

Kitties!

Shadow here.
I've cleverly hidden myself behind this wall.

Why, you ask?

Because there was one of THESE:
in my yard today!!

Several times.

I'll let my Daddy tell the story.

Today was the first time we saw Shadow see a bobcat.  Actually it was the first five times!

At about 6:45 AM (which is about 15 minutes before horizon sunrise and 45 minutes before it clears the mountain) it's pretty dark outside and Shadow is at her kitchen window when I notice her all tense.  Mr. Bobcat is on our upper patio waiting for birds to come to the feeder. No action so he exits stage right into Bill's yard.  She zips to the patio door to watch him leave.

7:00 AM.  Birds are coming in when Mr. Bobcat reappears from outside our wall jumping and missing his target.  So he jumps down into our yard not knowing about the piercing eyes that are watching him--and exits stage left into Clark's yard.

Five minutes later he saunters back right in front of her and into Bill's yard again.

It's later now and we're eating breakfast inside and we again have a tense cat; Mr. Bobcat is crouched again on our upper patio.  Birds know there are fresh peanuts but face either death by starvation or death by being eaten.  They choose starvation so he exits stage left again.

Five minutes later he reappears in front of Shadow again with a quail in his mouth and goes into Bill's yard for the last time.

We had no bushy tail, no growl, no scream.  The window was closed and she probably saw his size and decided to leave well enough alone.  Of course, she didn't leave the two windows for the rest of the morning!

Kitties, I was a very keyed up pussycat the rest of the day...I need a nap!  That ginormous Tailess Menace could come back, at any time, day or night.  Maybe I should lobby for an assistant.

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Happy News

Kitties!

Guess who?
It's me, Shadow!
I'm out in my purrsonal Catio, sunning and topping off my catteries.
I am almost recovered from feeling awful terrible horrible sick after my combo vaccination.  I was under the weather for almost a month.

My peeps took very good care of me, and so did my nice vet.  I was (mostly) cooperative about being pilled and force fed, and my Human sisser says she's quite proud of our peeps, they rose to the occasion and were ace nurses.  Mummy always put on an Evil Fleece Jacket (for claw protection) whenever they had to pill me, and once she accidentally left it out afterwards--so I had to meowmeowmeow and show it to her so she could put the offending garment back in the closet!  Even when I wasn't feeling good I made sure to keep 'em in line.

I'll tell you a little secret:  I kind of like riding in the car!  Also, I fight like a wildcat with the PTU, and so I don't have to get cat wrangled stuffed into it any longer, Mummy bought me a snazzy halter and I wear that instead of being imprisoned.

I have another week of pills and then I'll be all done.
In the meanwhile, I'm enjoying getting back to my normal routine of being pampered...

...and properly entertained.

Mummy and Daddy are so happy that I'm almost 100% sassy again.
We love each other very much.

And we love you guys, too--thank you so much for purring for me when I was so ill.  Your support was truly appreciated, we all felt your concern from all the corners of the world.

Happy Thursday!

Love,  Shadow  xoxoxoxoxo

Wednesday Wildlife in Arizona!

Kitties!

Mommy Trish here, reporting from Sedona, Arizona!

I can only IMAGINE how much trouble I'm in at home with The Horde...and it's not gonna get any better after they see this post, because it's all NOT about them.

Instead, here's some wildlife from my Mom & Dad's yard in Tucson.  The Sonoran Desert has almost three times as much rain than the Mohave (where Las Vegas is) and has a lot more plants and animals.
Mr. Roadrunner--meep meep!

An anonymous orb weaver.

Bobcat kitten settling into the hose pot for a snooze...this is in their front yard!

Kitten #2 at the base of the Palo Verde tree in front.

And strolling along the rocks by the sidewalk.

Kitten #3 was busy climbing the tree.

Mama must have been around, unless she parked the kittens while she went hunting--she's done that before--but my Mom didn't see her with them.  They are already larger than Johnny!
