Robert the Cat

Kitties!

Our Grandpawrents were sitting at their dining room table, birdwatching, when all of a sudden they wondered "where have all the birds gone?"

And then Robert "Bob" Catt appeared!

He hopped up on the back wall to sip the birdy's bath water.  Bob was a thirsty guy!

He drank and drank and drank...

...and had all the wildlife taking cover until he moved on.

We think he's quite good looking--but maybe a leetle too big to play with--we're glad these pictures were taken from behind the window!

 Kittiesssssss!

It issssss I, King Ssssssnake.
I wasssss sssspotted ssssslithering in the rockssss...

...and decsssssided to ssssnap a sssssselfie.

The Mommy:  King Snake was in the back yard at my folks' house; they are pretty sure he/she had just woken up from hibernation.  My folks "encouraged" it to move along--it's a constrictor and eats small prey (not cat-sized items like Shadow!)--but who wants a snake in the garden?

Hissed Off

Kitties!

Felix here.

Or parts of me, anyway...
I am disgusted with Mommy, and do you know why?
Because she's gone and LEFT!

Vamoosed.
Hit the road.
Flew the friendly skies.

She went to Arizona to wait on Shadow visit her parents--and won't be back for elebenty billion years five days.

I am outraged, kitties, OUTRAGED at this turn of events.

I'm sure *I* never signed a PURRmission slip.

This is gonna be a loooooong week...

Monstrous Selfie

Kitties!

We have a Special Guest today to participate in the Cat on My Head's Sunday Selfie BlogHop...
A MONSTER!

A Gila Monster, that is.

He (She?  Nobody asked!) meandered though the Grandpawrent's back yard a few days ago and they were intrepid enough to "help" with some photos.  Those bricks are 14 inches (35 cm) long, to give you an idea of size.

Damn pawparazzi...I didn't want my photo done!  My scales are all dusty.
*grumble*

Um...apparently Monsters are rather vain!
Who knew?

ShadowDay!

Kitties!

Shadow here...can you spot me?

After many many many years of patient training I have finally succeeded in teaching my servunts to walk on a leash.

They are exceptionally well-behaved, now that they have the hang of it.

I take them out a few times a day for supervised strolls up and down the block; I'd prefer all day every day, but humans are so frail, compared with my Catly vigor.

While we walk if there is an especially interesting thing to investigate they show signs of tiring  I do allow them to take short breaks and talk to the neighbors who never fail to admire my leash lassoing skills.

As they should!
Just look at how perfectly this one heels...

Javelinas!

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

I wanted to include this video with yesterday's post, but for some reason YouTube was being balky.  In all the years I've been visiting my parents I've seen many kinds of wildlife, but never a javelina--only captive at the Desert Museum.  So it was a real treat to see a group in the wash, and get it on camera!

My Dad says that the boars are a lot bigger, so this herd is just sows and babies.

Enjoy!

Saturday and Sunday with Sheebie

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.
Saturday is my Birthday (52!) so I'm going to be lazy and do just one post for the weekend and call it good.
But I have some fun photos from the visit to see my folks and Shadow which I hope will tide you all over until Monday!

Dad and Mom out in the back yard, talking to Shadow, who is exploring.

Inspection.

An unwilling family portrait!

The unwillingness continues:  Me, molesting Shadow.  She is Mightily Displeased.

Sceadu Sunday

Kitties!

Shadow here.

Did you know that my name--Shadow/Sceadu--is an old old old word for "shade"?  Furthermore, a Sceadugengen* is a mythical creature of the forest, walking silently and seeing all.

Well.

I may not be walking in a forest, but I am walking outside nowadays!
See?

It took me a year, but I finally wore my peeps down with my relentless begging was able to fulfil my destiny.

Fate, apparently, is a good thing.

Happy Sunday!

Oh, Deer!

Friends and Kitties!

Sheebie here.

My parents live in Arizona and their back yard opens out onto a huge wash.  They've seen all sorts of wildlife; bob cats, javelina, snakes, chippies, and millions of birds--but this was their first mule deer sighting, and as luck would have it the camera was nearby.

Peeping over the neighbor's wall--they have a bird bath that the deer was using as a watering hole.

Down in the wash.  That's my Mom in the right of the frame...the deer was close!

Browsing.

I wonder what they'll see next--maybe a cougar?

Sunday with Shadow (and Sheebie)

Kitties!

Shadow here.
I have informed My Servunts that they may (from now on and forevermore) sleep on the floor.
This bed is mine!

In other news, the offensively touchy-feely human offspring of Mommy and Daddy has arrived, upsetting my purrfectly orchestrated schedule.  However, I admit this may not be all bad--I was able to wake everybody up at 5 AM yesterday morning, an entire hour earlier than normal!   I will continue to scheme to work this turn of events to my advantage...

***

Sheebie here!

Well, I'm having a wonderful time at my parent's Shadow's house.  Saturday I had a 2-hour nap, the first one in weeks.  Bliss.  After all the hubbub of late it's nice to to have no responsibilities for a few days.  Shadow is such a sweet kitty, although she's definitely Mom and Dad's cat, she does enjoy a few pets from me.  She sure loved the valerian root I brought, though!

I have a question for you Apple users.  My Mom has an iPad 1 (the oldest) and when she opens an embedded link (like YouTube) there appears to be no way back to the original page.  So, do the newer versions allow you to navigate back to the original page or is that a glitchy feature of the latest iPad as well?  Or is there a secret way "back" that only certain Apple people know?  Mom really loves her iPad and would like to get a new one but the navigation issue is a deal breaker.

I'll be lurking around for a few days yet.  It's been so much fun to read your posts, those of you who did a Catio feature.  I am going to do a round-up post and put all the links in one place for everyone to enjoy, along with a video I made of the Catio.

Scott reports that The Baby is feeling better, and that she took her pills at the vet's office like a good little trouper.  She enjoys car rides (!!!) and the vet is only 10 minutes away so it's only a half-hour round trip for the two of them.   Fingers crossed she'll be around to pester bestow her benevolence upon us for many years to come.

Well, off to relax some more.

Happy Sunday!

The Shadow Knows...

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

Hi Kitties!

Shadow here.

The darn Screechy Lady terrorized me visited again.  I thought I was off the hook for flashy box action but sadly I was disappointed; she whipped out her phone and took photos with that, instead.
*sigh*
If you look closely you can see that I have TWO nip nanners--yes, I have My Servunts quite well trained.  Any little thing I desire, I get.

For instance, every morning after the peeps eat breakfast they go brush their teeth, and I dance and prance against Mommy's legs until she's done--then I race into the kitchen for my morning grooming session!

This is what happens then:

see it on YouTube HERE

Didja see the Greenies?  I love Greenies, and after my morning massage I get SIX of them.  (And yes, I can count to six.)

Happy Tuesday!

The Chair Thief

Kitties!

We have a guest post today from our Cousin Shadow...as dictated to her Daddy, our Grandpaw, who was kind enough (as if he had a choice) to send it to us to post...take it away, Shadow!

Hello, Fellow felines!

Shadow here.

In sunny Arizona, finding a warm spot to nap is just a matter of flopping down in any chair that's near a window.  But after sunset, the pickings are slim. Here's how I have solved that problem.

When Daddy gets out of his leather chair, the leather is still nice and warm because it has soaked up his butt and body heat.  Since he is an avid reader, the chair is warm a lot, especially in the evening which is really great.  What is not so great is that he is often still in it when the nap urge strikes me.  It's time for Cat Cunning.

Our reading room is the den which is also my room.  I hipitty-hop into the den with an innocent, bright eyed look.  A couple of paw scratches on my fresh tissue paper, (in my wild moods I can shred a sheet a day), and Daddy will look up and say, "Oh do you want to play?"

  STOP!

If any of you are thinking about trying this yourself on your human, at this point you must actually play with them every once in a while so they will never know when you are serious or about to pull off your wicked plan.

Daddy puts down his book and I get ready.  As soon as he stands and takes a step forward, I'm a black streak around him into his chair.  He spins around and may call me a little !#@$, a word that I can't write here.  If he then moves towards me to reverse the situation, I use one of the following two methods to thwart his intentions.

If you have seen my pictures you know that Bombay cats like me have big, round eyes.  First, I use them to pierce his soul and bring out the "Oh I don't have the heart to push her out, she looks so comfortable" feeling that humans are suckers for.  But if Daddy's emotions are running hot, then I switch to the look that says, "Oh, you're thinking of grabbing me and pushing me out, go ahead, make my day!"

Either way I always win.  A couple of minutes of licking random spots on my beautiful fur while my heat blends with Daddy's left over heat and I really start cooking.  Then it's an hour or so to enjoy the fruits of my evil deed.

Humans are easy.

Happy Seat-Stealing Sunday!

Shadow's Catmas!

Kitties!

Shadow here, just hanging out on the table.
Yes--I'm allowed!
(As if the servunts could stop me...)
Here comes my Dad.

Hi Dad!
Whatcha got there?

A Catmas gift from the Katnip Kitties?

For MOI?

COOL!

Oh, my claws and whiskers!

And it came with THREE different "birdies", one of which has a tinkley bell on it that drives me crazypants.  OK, I admit it, all the birdies are insanely fun.

Kitties, this toy is THE BOMB.

I leap and jump and pirouette and levitate like I have pogo sticks for legs!
(Pay no attention to my Dad's legs; they are decidedly not pogo stick-ish)

This is the first toy I've ever played with until I flop over panting, and I know where it lives in the closet--so I request to play with it many many many times an hour daily.  It's a good thing my servunts are retired!

Thank you Katnip Kitties, and Screechy Lady...I LOVE my Interactive Feather Wand toy from The Natural Pet Company, and I give it four liquorice paws up!

Happy Thursday!

What Sheebie Did on Her Summer Vacation

Friends and Kitties!

A verreh relaxed Sheebie here.

First off, if you ever have the opportunity to take an e-cation I highly recommend it!  I only looked at my phone for email and to skim blogs (gotta keep up wit alla youse) for about a half hour each day, and watched a bit of TV (Da Bears, Survivor, and Big Bang Theory).  The laptop stayed firmly shut.  I do admit to reading several books on my Kindle...but I read some bound books, too, so cut me some slack.  The majority of my electronic interaction was rousting the lazy slow twitch fibers in my muscles, to wit:

Yes indeedy, I'm back on my bike!  The knee feels great (except up really steep grades--nice excuse to walk and have a drink), and my left quads are at about 80% strength.  Descending stairs still is painful, but not physically difficult.  When I visited my folks (more on that later) Mom took me to two yoga classes which were fabulous, inspiring me to sign up through the City rec center for the next session starting in two weeks...during the MORNINGS!  Yep, you read that right, soonly I'm gonna be working afternoons--four days a week--WOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!  OK, it won't start until the end of December, but still.  I'm pretending that the next few weeks are merely an unpleasant, if pesky, prelude to a new, grand world of Sleeping Until Eight O'Clock Every Morning.  My new hours'll be 13:00 - 23:00 on the days where my attendance is required at the totally raw deal money-for-labor-exchange work (F, Sa, Su & M).

Back to cycling, I have a personal question--what's the best way to prevent rash in *ahem* certain areas?  I find that after an hour a certain amount of chafing occurs betwixt my greater glutes!  Quite distracting...any solutions?  Also, do any of you use an app for tracking your workouts?  I'm using the free version of Runtastic's Road Bike and so far I like it, but I'm open to suggestions.

The folks' first Selfies!
So I had a great visit with my Mom, Dad, and Shadow.  I haven't shared this until now but my Dad's prostate cancer recurred last spring and it was an emotional roller coaster for a while.  However, it looks as if he's got it licked--again--one more scan on his lung and he's in the clear.  His urologist said he expects my Dad to die from being run over by a bus before he expires from cancer...which struck me as morbidly, yet hilariously, reassuring.  They are both in fine fettle, Miss Shadow keeps 'em on their toes, chasing her throughout the house.  Kitties, expect to hear from her this week!

The Despot
I don't think Dad noticed it--but I played the Dessert Game with him, and even allowed him to win once...Mom's apple pie was just too damn good to dawdle over.  I did some cooking for the P's while I was there, I made a dairy-less potato soup for lunch(es) and sauteed shrimp with baked kabota squash and a warm bacon, mushroom, & spinach salad for dinner.  Mom said it was weird, getting kicked out of her own kitchen.  Also, that I'm a "vigorous" cook.  She's so nice...what she meant was messy, although I do clean up after myself I have a tendency to fling peelings, etc everywhere while I cook.  In my defense, the Potato Paring Incident was a result of a faulty peeler, which was resolved during a shopping expedition.  (Always blame the tool, not the fool.)

We went out for a scrumptious lunch at a favorite restaurant:
I ate it ALL.
where I had a pork fritter with sauteed spinach and mushrooms that was so good that when I got home I recreated it for Scott and he loved it too.  Since I broke my knee I've been eating a little more meat and I have to admit I feel less tired.  We have settled into a nice compromise of  moderate flesh consumption; more as a flavoring and condiment than as a main for every meal.  Scott fantasizes about a big juicy steak but he knows if he got one, he'd eat a couple bites and be done...and tear into the salad instead!  Funny how one's taste can change.

Mom and Dad took me to see a performance at their local live theater, and it was so much fun--it was the kind of performance where the audience gets to cheer the hero and boo the villain, and I've been promised another play the next time I visit!  The troupe was superb, and the venue was great, too; small tables (with complimentary bowls of popcorn!!), great lines of vision, and waitstaff in costume in the theme of the play.  Even a piano player, who before the show played old standards for everybody to sing along with.

After six great days visiting I went home where, with the exception of riding and hiking, I was a complete and utter sloth for nine more days.  It was glorious!  This was the first time in twelve years that I've taken two consecutive weeks off work, and it was the Cat's Pajamas.  I'll be doing it again next year, that's for sure.  The Horde spent many happy hours with me, happily buzzing away on my lap while I read (and napped) on the Catio--the weather was perfect and I think some days I only went inside to get a fresh cuppa coffee.  Rupert in particular has become a complete Lap Fungus, dribbling copiously and clawtooing my hide every time I sat on the sofa; in fact I'm typing around him right now.

So naturally, I'm bursting with cat stories to tell...the Heinous Flypaper Assault springs to mind, but that's for another day...

It's nice to go away, but it's nice to be "home", too.  I missed y'all.

Happy Monday, and have a Happy Week!
