Hippy Dippy Doody

Kitties!

Tiny Johnson here.
This may look like nothing more than a photo of me squatting in the litter pool, but that's exactly what it is; a photo of me squatting!

After the infamous Anal Sac Experience I was still making use of...ahem...''inappropriate" areas to poop, like my heaty box bed, so the peeps decided on another vet visit for x-rays of my innards.  Well, it turns out my innards are fine, but I have severely arthritic hips. (We figure the only way TJ could go comfortably was laying down, we feel terrible.--ed.)

The vet gave me Metacam, which has helped tremendously, as you can see.  I'm back to laying large logs in the litter pool and I've been much more apt to venture onto the higher levels of the cat trees. and in the apartment house on the Catio.  The peeps think I'm less clingy, too.
(I am NOT clingy--it's called Snoopervision.)

The vet said Metecam can impact my kidney function, long term, so she did a baseline kidney panel.  I'm pleased to report I have the kidneys of a kitten--so I only have to have blood work done every six months and follow up x-rays if I start limping, etc.

I'm so happy to feel less creaky, and the medicine isn't icky at all--Mommy squirts it in my mouth and I don't fight or foam--and I get a treat afterwards!  Hopefully I'll feel good for a long time now.

Happy Monday!

Wheezy Wednesday

Kitties!

May Ling here.
I'm looking for a place to hide.

Behind the garbage can?
Nope.

The Corner of Invisibility?
That's not working too well either.

How about some loud complaining...maybe that will convince Mommy that I don't need to be at the vet's office??
or click HERE

Well, that didn't work either.
Rats.

Teh Mommy here:  ML has been wheezing and gasping lately, and I *knew* it wasn't a hairball; she's normally quite efficient about those.  I was pretty sure it was allergies or asthma.  The poor mite had multiple episodes in a single day last week and Scott got one on video...so off to the vet we went.  Dr. Auggie agreed with my hunch and the victim patient received a Depo steroid shot.  We'll monitor her and see how it goes.  It's been incredibly windy this past week and everybody's allergies are playing up so I have high hopes that she was simply joining the crowd and this will be an end to it--because who wants to pee in the carrier twice?

Happy Wednesday!

Heinous.

Kitties!

Tiny Johnson here, recovering.
I had a horrendously Terrible Day.

Apparently evacuating my bowels outside of the box is cause enough around here to be hauled off to the vet's office where I was subjected to an absolutely atrocious intrusion of my purrson--I had my anal glands expressed.  And then a butt shave, and a butt bath!

I may never recover...

or click HERE

The Mommy here:  Poor TJ.  Dr. Auggie said that his anal glands were the largest she had ever "seen" in her practice--what are normally raisin-sized sacs were as large as grapes--both sides.  No wonder the poor guy wasn't using the box!  He was a star throughout the entire procedure, not a peep or growl out of him; I imagine it had to be quite a relief, actually.  The minute we got home he headed for the food dish, and later devoured a slice of ham and steak bits so he obviously wasn't too traumatized.  Hopefully he should be good to go from now on...heh heh.

Happy Wednesday!

Poor, Poor Maui

Kitties!

Maui here.

I had a terrible week last week.  It was a truly awful, horrible, no-good, vile, ghastly, and--most importantly--a heinous to my anus sort of week.

Because, after the first enema (and subsequent poopsplosions) of two weeks ago my trains still weren't running on time.  Or at all, actually.  So off to the vet I was hauled, singing the song of my people in the car, the lobby, and the examination room:
or click HERE

Turns out I was really Really REALLY backed up, but after two days, FOUR enemas and a manual disimpaction I'm pleased to report that my trains are finally leaving the station!  Right now I'm getting lactulose and cisapride squirted down my gullet twice daily to help things along, and boy oh boy, do I feel better.  I'm a maniac crazypants playful boy again!  The peeps helicopter over me every time I bust a move towards The Box so it's a good thing I prefer to poop at night--but somehow Mommy can tell which deposit is mine (he's not as sneaky as he thinks--ed.) and I've been "productive" for five days in a row so far...so if I keep up the good work for a month I can start weaning my medicine and see how it goes, heh heh.

Mommy says for the amount of money she's spent I'd better start pooping gold, but naturally she's a rude thing.  Plain old poop is good enough for her.

Happy Friday!

Well, Poop.

Kitties!

Maui here.

A word of advice:  If, for some reason, you find yourself in The Box, trying to poop--but the poop won't come--do not, I repeat, DO NOT think a little serenade will help things move along.

It doesn't.

What a song does do is bring your Mommy's (or Dad's) attention to your pooping, or as the case may be, lack thereof...and the next thing you know you are at the vet getting warm water squirted up your spot #13!  And then...well...you know...let's just say some personal records for length and volume were achieved and leave it at that.

*whew*

And if that weren't enough, because of the inevitable poopy pants untidyness not one, but TWO butt baths occurred, along with numerous warm wet washcloths applied to my (by now somewhat raw) nether regions.

The crowning indignity, however, was this:
Yes, a DIAPER.
Tie dyed (for style), but still...a diaper!

First not enough poop, then too much...Mommy is impossible to please.

So remember, kitties--No singing in the box, ever.
Don't say you weren't warned.

Happy Thursday!

Toothy Tale

Kitties!

Felix here.

On Tuesday I was cruelly shoved gently decanted into a PTU and--singing the song of my people--hauled off to the vet for a pre-dental check-up.

Once we were in the room I really let Mommy have it:
or click HERE

I was a purrfect gentlemancat with the tech and the vet (both women--he's a huge flirt--ed.) even though I had my temperature "taken" in a Most Undignified manner.  And despite my best efforts to not let the vet see my teeth, she persevered and determined that I have lots of tartar, so I have to go back...next Tuesday.
Ai yi yi.
Kitties, do any of you have a spare room and a desire for an Ornj visitor?

Happy Thursday!

Please, tage be home, Bomby!
Dow.
I bromise nod do sneeze.

Kitties--The Mommy here.  Johnny has, once again, a cold.  He has feline herpes virus and whenever he's stressed it flares up.  I noticed a couple of days ago he was littered with scabs; my theory is he mixed it up with someone here (probably Maui), things got a little out of hand (Maui is...erm...enthusiastic), and he came out the loser--which upset him--and the herpes struck.
*sigh*
Anyway, he has antibiotics and he's on the mend...he slept in my armpit all night (we spooned--he smells so good) and he only sneezed a couple of times which was a huge improvement over the night before which was a disgusting evening of snot bombardment.
Poor lad.
I'm sure in a couple of days he'll be back to his normal self, instigating mischief.  As of this writing he's sat by me, buzzing his heart out.

A Status Report, By: The Baby

Kitties!

The Baby here.

Some of you may have read on Facebook about my impromtu vet visit on Monday.

First off:  THANK YOU all so much for your purrs!  They worked, because;

Secondly:  I am back to my sassy spoilt self.

It was very strange--Monday morning I was in fine form, pestering Mommy requesting my cream dot  (without the coffee, natch) and pacing for pets and loveys--but by the time Mommy got back from yoga at 11:00 I was hunched up and visibly shaking, obviously in pain.  So the peeps packed me up and whisked me off to see Dr. Auggie tout suite.  I had only a very slightly elevated temp (they took it TWICE) so given my history of irritable bowel disease I got an injection of Cerenia for nausea (with pills for later, if I need 'em) and Clavamox for infection, just in case.  And all of you were purring for me!  So by 6 PM I was much better.  I had several long drinks at the water fountain (and pooped), and ate a big midnight snack when Mommy got home from work.

Hopefully, my distress was nothing more than a passing thing.  I had eaten some dried kibble the week prior and Mommy thinks that may have irritated my innards.  No more of that for me!  Which is kind of a bummer, but I'd rather not have to see the vet again until my next check-up, and not a moment before.

Thank you again for keeping me in your thoughts.

Happy Thursday!

Holiday Triage

Kitties!

Keanu here.
Please don't tell the Nevada Kats, but I slept with their Mommy!

She made me a really nice towel bed, on top of the regular bed.  (talk about swanky!)
Now, do you see how my right cheek is all puffy?  Well, Nevada Mommy noticed that too while she was petting me.  Naturally she investigated, and I had an abscess...so she lanced it for me.  I was a Very Good Boy and didn't whimper, not one tiny bit!

I felt eversomuch better with all that gunk out and settled right in for a good sleep.

zzzzZZZZZzzzzzzz.....

And it's a good thing I slept so well because the next day my employer Daddy Tommy boxed me up into a carrier and carted me off to the vet, where I got my cheek flushed out and an antibiotic shot.

And then it was back to work for me!
A Cottage Cat's duties are never done.

Bibber-Wibber Wednesday

Kitties!

The Baby* here.

*Mommy calls me Bibber-Wibbers.  It's undignified.

You may recall I recently was incarcerated and hauled off involuntarily had a vet visit for blood work; I had a "senior blood panel" done.

Well, the results came back and everything was GREAT!  All my innards are working as they should.  My white blood count was high, but considering I just got over Cat Flu the vet wasn't too concerned.

My weight was down though, so I was given carte blanche to eat whatever I want, whenever I want!  The vet would like me to gain about a pound so I have some chowing down to do, like this fine selection:
Sorry about the blurry photo; here I have a dish of chopped deli ham and a dish of baked sammin to nosh on the very instant I feel peckish.

Hmmmmmm, ham + sammin...I think I'll call this treat HAMMIN!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I feel a tiny pang of hunger...

Happy Wednesday!

Not Just No, But He!! No

Kitties!

The Baby here.
What's that Mommy?  You're taking me to the vet for a Senior Blood Panel and a check-up?

I don't think so.

I'm all over my cat cold but Mommy is a horrible person worrywart and has decided that--without any input whatsoever from me--I still need a once-over and blood work to make sure my innards are working correctly.  As if the 10cm hairball*  I produced yesterday (unfortunately missing the carpet) wan't enough proof that I'm in tip top shape!

*sigh*

Happy Tuesday, anyway!

Our Mommy the Vet?

Kitties!

 Johnny here.

We had forgotten all about the fact Daddy took some picture of our humiliation exams when Rupert and I were about to be tortured dropped off for our dental cleanings last month.
But here they are--better late than never, right?
The vet listened to our hearts...

...and she invited Mommy to listen to mine!

I have a very mild heart murmur, just a little squeak every so often.  Dr. Auggie heard it and thought Mommy would be interested in hearing what it sounded like--she was--but naturally as soon as she put the stethoscope on I intentionally stopped the squeak, so all Mommy got to hear was my normal ba-BUP ba-BUP ba-BUP.

Kitties, opportunities like this to thwart your peeps' desires can make a vet visit worthwhile!

Well, almost.
As long as the thermometer stays in the drawer...

Happy Monday!

Uh Oh...Purrs, Plz!

Kitties!

Johnny here.
A word of advice:  If you feel all gulpy and sick and raspy, do NOT sleep with your Mommy (or Dad).  They will notice and then, well, you are hauled off to the vet.

Like so.

The vet does unspeakable things to see if you have a fever...

...and listens to all the highly private things happening in your innards.

The stress of it all can cause you to lose a whisker!

The Mommy here:  Poor John has been under the weather for a couple of days so I carted him off for a check-up; little guy was so low he didn't even make a peep in the car on the trip there.  No fever, and his lungs sound clear--Dr. Auggie suspects either allergies or an irritated trachea from the dental procedure--he is doing a weird swallowing thing and his purr sounds really raspy.  He got a steroid shot as an allergy preventative and has antibiotics "just in case";  he's prone to kitty colds when stressed and the dental certainly qualified as that.  I fed him some minced broasted chicken with a side of cream when we got home, and he toddled off to sleep in the sun for the afternoon.  I'm sure he'll be just fine but a few purrs wouldn't go amiss...and I'll make sure he gets the prime spooning spot at bedtime.  Thanks everyone...xx

Happy Friday!

Moaning Mancatz Monday

Kitties!

Rupert and Johnny here.

As many of you guessed, we were at the Ebil Vet's Office in Friday's Post.  For some reason the peeps thought we had stinky breafs (the nerve!) and dirty teef...and they were prepared to pay beaucoup green papers to make those two things go away.

We had some thoughts about the car ride:
(caution--may contain language unsuitable for younger or more sensitive kittehs)
or click HERE

And once we were incarcerated in the office we attempted Invisibility, to no avail.
or click HERE

Sad to report, it really went downhill from there...we were cat-handled into the back where our bloods were stolen, we were sequestered and starved overnight, and, in the morning, whilst weak from loss of blood and lack of sustenance the Vet slipped us a Mickey and knocked us out cold!  What happened after that we're not quite sure but when we came to our teefs were sparkling (NO extractions!) our claws were trimmed down to nubbins and our anal glands seem oddly empty...as was Mommy's checking account, heh heh heh.

But NOT empty enough, apparently--Felix and The Baby are up next week!

At least we're done, thank Cod.

Happy Monday!

The Ultimate Betrayal

Kitties!

Johnny and Rupert here...

After spending untold hours and days sleeping next to Mommy while she was prostrated with flu*, working our little paw pads to the bone, THIS is how we were rewarded:
And it got worse.

MUCH worse!

Horrible, hungry worse...

**shudder**

Stay tuned, Monday we will tell the entire story--in the meanwhile, feel free to speculate upon the nature of our ordeal--which was (did we mention?) AWFUL.

Woe is I

Kitties!

Salem here.
Yes, I was hauled off went to the vet, where unspeakable violations were visited upon my nether regions!

*ahem*

Mommy here:  Sunday night poor Miss Salem deposited an epic stinky poop in the litter box, you know, the kind you get up out of bed to scoop and the box is three rooms away.  She got a butt bath the next day--the stinky poops had morphed into loose stools and things were getting out of hand back there.  Monday night when I got home from work Salem was on my bed along with an unmistakable aroma--anal gland exudate--and sure enough her pants were a mess.  yikes.  Butt bath and sheets changed at midnight, and Tuesday when everything still looked swollen we were off to the vet.  I told the doc my suspicions whereupon he whisked Salem into the back for a clean up and a  "squeeze"...good golly that cat has a pair of LUNGS!

Poor little punkin was all backed up with thick waxy goo.  The vet complimented me on the accurate diagnosis...and he cracked up when I told him "I know my cat's ass!"

The Tiny Tux got a steroid shot for the swelling, and has antibiotics to take for the next week.  I've never had to pill her so that *may* be a challenge, and if she tolerates it I'm to hold a warm compress on her hiney a few times a day.  She came home and ate some chicken jerky for a treat and toddled off to sleep off the indignity in her Daddy's bed.

Poor thing.
I'm sure she'll keep you updated...

Happy Wednesday!

Partial Noodity

Kitties!

Kona here.
If I look a bit discombobulated in this photo, well, it's because I am.

Friday morning, with no warning whatsoever (so I could HIDE) I was stuffed placed gently into a carrier and hauled off to the vet's office for a GROOMING, for a variety of reasons:

  I'm shedding my summer coat
I loathe being brushed
I BITE
I had tons of mats which appeared overnight
I'm too arthritic to attend to the mats myself
I bite HARD
My unbelievably long clicking toenails need to be professionally trimmed, because, you guessed it, I BITE.
Nothing wrong with the ol' jaws on this ladycat!

Unfortunately the groomer lady scared me witless wore chain mail which meant I forgot to give her a big juicy chomp, so she shaved my mats, gave me a bath-n-blow dry, a comb out, AND trimmed my talons without any loss of blood.

I feel a lot better now though...I may have to admit the whole ordeal wasn't all THAT bad.

NOT.

 Happy Caturday!
